Avatar m tn Fosamax has also been prescribed to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Brand name Fosamax is manufactured in the United States by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc. In about 2008-2009, Fosamax became widely available in its generic form (alendronate sodium). Side effects of Fosamax may include the following: 1. Avatar n tn 35 years of empty sella, hi prolactin, testosterone injections, osteopenia, broken ribs and recently hip - and now at age 67 two of my children ages 33 and 36 flunk Dexa scans and are prescribed fosamax, which they refuse to take until hyperparathyroid is ruled out. I get labs showing PTHs of 63/(15-65), 51 and 45, with ionized calciums of 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 on scale 4.5 - 5.6. Three endos and 2 GPs say it's all coincidental. Should we get treatment in Europe?
7469840 tn?1409845836 He started me on a regimen of weekly Estrogen patch, weekly Fosamax, and Citracal Plus D. It took a few years, but I am now back up to normal bone density. I would not trust just any old Family Practive doctor or PCP. You want someone who specializes in Osteoporosis and who will tailor the treatment to you. Best of luck.
Avatar n tn Can prolonged Fosamax use damage the throat lining and if so, what is the treatment?
Avatar f tn I had Osteopenia several years ago and applied an estrogen patch once a week, took Fosamax once a week, and took Citracal Plus D 5 tabs a day. After several years (13 years) of treatment my bone density gradually went from pathological fracture stage back up to normal bone density. It was well worth the treatment in order to avoid hip fractures and vertebral compression fractures. About 2008 I stopped the Estrogen but continued on the Fosamax and Citracal Plus D.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar m tn Thu Apr 10, 2014 1:17am EDT (Reuters) - A two-drug combination being tested by Merck & Co to treat hepatitis C cured 98 percent of previously untreated patients without cirrhosis in a midstage clinical trial, providing the latest evidence that the U.S. drugmaker will be highly competitive in the fast evolving field. Results of the study called C-Worthy were presented on Thursday at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) in London.
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar f tn t take estrogen due to having previous blood clots and I have 1000mg of calcium a day and vitamin D is at 60. That is very normal. My doctor is going to increase the vitamin D to 80, towards the higher end of the range. I can't take fosamax either because I took it before and it gave me bad muscle thigh pain. There was a period of about 8 years where I was sitting way too much due to back pain. So I am trying to start walking more.
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar f tn It is possible that you could have increased bone pain with the addition of calcium plus Fosamax, because you could be feeling (what is known as) bone remodeling. This is the activity that is occurring as calcium is replaced on the bone. About suitable therapy; it depends of course on your gender. I'll assume you are female, since you mention Evista. If you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, it is almost essential that you are taking Fosamax (alondronate).
Avatar n tn MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?
179856 tn?1333547362 Patients were randomized into the three treatment groups (48 weeks control; 48 weeks control plus boceprevir; control plus boceprevir using response-guided therapy) at a ratio of 1:1:1. In the study overall, 66 percent of patients in the boceprevir 48-week treatment group achieved SVR, and 63 percent of patients in the response-guided therapy group achieved SVR, compared to 38 percent of patients in the control group (p<0.0001 for both, intent-to-treat analysis).
Avatar f tn I am on thyroid, but have it checked regularly, am a breast cancer survivor, take fosamax, and prescription Vit. D. Could any of that be associated with being unable to loose weight?
Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
324691 tn?1302551842 my tsh is now .0009 My vit D is 24.2 and my calcium is 9.5 My doc thinks I have thinning bone, When I lower my dose of Armour 150 mg, I become diabetic with metabolic syndrome. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn m taking weekly generic Fosamax, daily 1200 calcium, daily 1400 D, and every other week 50,000 D. I hit menoapuse about 4 years ago. I have some pretty bad arthritis in my R hip, but my L is much more normal, though not totally normal. I walk briskly and climb stairs 5 days a week. > > 2-3 years ago I had taken the high dose D for 1 year, so my scores momentarily shot way up. Then last year my osteoporosis scores dropped 0.1 or 0.2, ending at: femoral neck -1.3, total hip -1.9, spine -1.
691935 tn?1421027090 s apparent that my bone loss was caused initially by liver damage keeping me from converting vitamin D, further compounded by malabsorption of D from diarrhea caused by another drug (not the hcv/riba combo). Took many months for the D situation to straighten out but it looks like a year of rebuilding bone with Fosamax should set things right.
29837 tn?1414534648 Just spoke to my contact at Merck today. They are still in Clinical Trials Phase III with Beceprevir but nearing the end. He mentioned the FDA does not allow for them to give out any advanced notice as to applications, Anemia results, trail results, etc... Seems odd to me, but there it is. I specifically asked two questions: The anticipated Fast Track application date and the Anemia question.
