Common Questions and Answers about Aldara and warts

aldara

Avatar n tn After using Aldara for 8 weeks or so the warts went away and my doctor said that they were gone and I could stop using Aldara. About a week ago I noticed that two warts were back and my doctor said to continue use of Aldara. I was wondering how long Aldara takes to get rid of warts and when they do go away, how often may the warts reappear?
Avatar m tn Hi I've been using Aldara for 3 applications now for what I believe are genital warts under my foreskin just below the ridge, they are only small. Up to now nothing has happened, no reaction, no itching no reddening of area nothing at all. I was expecting some sort of reaction or change with it being such a strong medicine. Is this normal?
Avatar f tn So she prescribed me Aldara and I used it for two weeks but after two weeks the side effects were really bad so I stopped using it for a week. After that week the side effects from Aldara had all cleared up and I wen to go put the cream on again only to discover that my "warts" were gone. Is it normal that the warts would clear up after only two weeks with Aldara? I have always had a really good immune system but that just seems really fast.
Avatar m tn what is the normal time it takes for the skin redness and burning to heal after using aldara? i used it for about a month and a half and my penis has never been the same even after 3 weeks off the awful drug. if anyone could offer anything thatd be great. im trying to go see a derm doc. i cant live with this burning pain for the rest of my life. dont know where to go... thanks.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure why you were given aldara for pinched skin. it's a treatment for genital warts and molluscum. Aldara is very irritating to the genital skin. It's very common for the symptoms you've described to occur. ruling out herpes is never a bad idea but odds are it's due to the aldara. I'd get a 2nd opinion on the area you were using the aldara on and not continue using it until you get a better diagnosis than what you were evidently given the first time.
Avatar m tn i have been on aldara for about a month now for anal hpv warts. i had them cauterized last feb 8 and the doc put me on aldara for 3 months. my questions are: 1, does the cream cause a bit of itch even when it's been washed off or just when it's on? 2. i noticed what lookes like a "cut" near the perinem .around the anal opening..sort of like a small sore.. is that a side effect of the cream?
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with HPV for the past 4 months, and it has been a serious struggle. I have gone to get the warts burned off about 5-6 times, and they keep coming back. My doctor put me on Aldara, but I am having SERIOUS side effects. It says for me to put it on the area once a night before I go to bed, but I started having redness and irritation. I thought that just meant that it was working, so I was off it for a day and went back on it for 2.
Avatar n tn I knew that there were several topical treatments out there, so I researched them and decided Aldara was my best bet. This year I got a BUNCH of new ones on my chin and cheeks. A new dermatologist said they were a staph infection AFTER I asked for Aldara. (15 years, remember) I got depressed, wondering if I was going to be one of those people who die of treatable skin cancer. I saw another who said they were warts, froze them, and said there was no topical treatment.
Avatar m tn He said that I did not need to wait for those spots to heal and that I could start using Aldara right away. Is this ok?? Also, I am not quite sure if I have other warts on the shaft of my penis. There are a few other very small bumps that I am not sure of. It is ok to rub the Aldara over these spots even if they turn out not to be warts? I think my doc said that the cream won't really harm the normal skin, but it will seek out the warts if it is in contact with them.
Avatar m tn Just started a treatment of Aldara today. I always seem to have a few small genital warts on me. Does anyone know what I can expect. I am 31 and healthy in every way. I have been receiving cryotherapy for 3 years and they always come back. I was told that Aldara will help get my immune system involved in fighting the virus so I will have a better chance of losing the warts. Has anyone out there used thus treatment ?
Avatar m tn Your dermatologist has much more experience using imiquimod (Aldara) than I do. We don't use it as the main warts treatment in our STD clinic and I have personally treated very few patients with it. Please confirm my replies with your dermatologist. 1) The research studies with imiquimod applied it only to overt, visible warts. In theory, broader application might eradicate the more widespread HPV infection that usually accompanies warts, but to my knowledge this hasn't been studied.
Avatar n tn Hello there, thank you for the advice you gave me the other day.I went to my doctor yesterday & he prescribed Aldara cream for me to apply on the warts/skin tags that I have on my face & neck area.Does any one know if this stuff really works,or is there any pre-cautions or side affects that I should be aware of?How long does it take to see results?I was told to apply this cream three times a week.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I have one more week of treatment with Aldara (out of 8 weeks) and although the inside warts got smaller they are still there. I don;t think they will go away by the end of the treatment. Should I go back to the Dr for more Aldara or should I wait it out? Anybody else had similar experience with Aldara treating anal warts?
Avatar m tn Use MINIMAL amount just to cover warts, and fully rub in. My doctor easily perscribed me Aldara barely explaining how to use it. But when I searched online, i found many stories of EXTREME allergic reactions to it!
Avatar n tn But the ones inside are still persistent. I have one more week of treatment with Aldara (out of 8 weeks) and although the inside warts got smaller they are still there. Avatar n tn I'm wondering if anyone else has had experience with this cream and its effectiveness on genital warts. These warts seem to be very stubborn and I have been to the doctor on numerous occations to have them frozen off, but that is very painful and embarassing so I am now trying the cream. I just want to know what I can expect from this. Thanks ladies...
Avatar f tn Hey ive been going through a hard time with the cream too, your reaction sounds pretty normal. Go to askapatient.com and type in aldara if you want some reassurance and examples of other people's adverse affects. I know it helped ease my mind a bit. I'm having horrible reactions too but it works to get rid of the warts pretty fast. Still if it is intolerable there are alternatives.
Avatar n tn How to apply Aldara creme and do you use yor hand for application since it does not come with cotton swaps or gloves?
Avatar n tn Well,it was red and sore before the Aldara too... that's why I orginally went and got checked. Imagine my surprise when he said the biospy read "vuval warts", which, I don't think has anything to do with the irratation. Can the biospy be wrong? Like I said, no metion of HPV... so confused!
Avatar m tn Hello i posted a little while back about trying Condyline on my genital warts, and the possibilitly of scarring being as I was going to use the solution right next to a scar that I had gotten from using ACV. ACV removed the majority of the wart, but also left me with two noticeable scars on the base of my penis.
2206935 tn?1373642205 hi when im apllying aldara im seeing some blood on the warts does that mean its working?
Avatar m tn and i've been putting the aldara on about 3 times a week for about a month and a half... and the warts are a little smaller but definitely still there. it just sucks cuz i'll put barely any on but since the skin folds in that area it always gets on healthy skin... so i quit and will probably just get them burned off like in the past even though they are smaller than normal.
Avatar m tn I have been treating anal warts for 8 weeks with aldara and after about 6 weeks i noticed they were slowly shrinking. While the visible warts are indeed shrinking (almost gone entirely), i know that there are internal ones in my anus that are still there, whether or not the aldara is helping them is undetermined. I visited my dermatologist today and she just asked if it helped and when i told her yes, slowly but surely she gave me 3 repeats of aldara and said just keep going until they're gone.
Avatar m tn aldara is to be applied on the warts only and not the surrounding area... did a doctor diagnose you for genital warts and prescribed Aldara for you? If not so, please see a dermatologist and first get a correct diagnoses and talk to him about application of this cream... a mild irritation, soreness and itching is part of the healing process with this cream... you should apply petrolium jelly (vaseline) or some other moisturizer to help your pain relief and...
Avatar m tn anyways it did not diminish my warts AND MOST IMPORTANTLY my penis is STILL really red and with a burning sensation and sensitivity down the shaft and base (which is not even where i applied the drug!). I have tried vitamin E oil but have now stopped cuz idk if it helped or made it worse...... I have stopped all forms of sex etc to let it heal (its been awhile)... Should i be worried about PERMANENT nerve damage and scarring????? i really just wish i had never touched this drug.
Avatar f tn Yes it is and you can get blisters and sores too and flu like symtoms and accing bones, look at the handout that comes with the cream, it has an extensive list of the side effects of the cream, trust me, i got them all. Best of luck.
Avatar m tn hey im a 21 yr old male. i have been using aldara one two very small genital warts (applying as little as possible with a toothpick). anyways despite best efforts the cream has gotten on other parts of my skin near the warts and has almost bleached it white... I have decided to stop using it for this reason even though the warts are not completely gone (i hate aldara now).

Avatar f tn So I had my appointment with my doctor today, after multiple treatments with acid and condylox my warts are still present. She prescribed me Aldara and tells me this will work for sure no doubt. Anybody on here have experience with Aldara. I am tired of going through treatment it has been 6 months of no improvement.
