I was prescribed zovirax acyclovir ointment 5% for a subsequent o/b.On the pamphlet it says it is for initial o/b's in immunocompetent persons as myself.But the pharmacist says it is doesn't matter and that the ointment is better than the cream because it adheres better.Which one is better for subsequent genital herpes o/b......acyclovir cream or ointment?What is the difference between the cream and the ointment?Thanks.
After 2yrs of pain I decided to try my own formula. I bought this Chinese ointment while I was still staying in Ghana and I put the ointment on the location of the pain then I will pour cold chilled water with ice on the back of my head. I think i did it once a day for a month or less and the pain disappeared. For over 7yrs now I haven't had headache. I have never had a pounding headache since.
Besides the zovirax ointment, which is difficult to administer since his lips are so sore, are their oral meds vs. topical that would be effective and safe? My pediatrician says he's too young for suppression therapy, but I've read other places that it's available for children under 12. Very frustrated, and just want to give my son some relief.

I went to the doctors to get checked out, and he took a look and prescribed me Acyclovir. I have been taking acyclovir for the past 20 days and my outbreak is still there no of the lesions have popped and gone away. I have been bringing a ton of water and not eating processed food. It is causing only itching. So i am using acyclovir ointment. Yesterday i visited a dermatologist.he said its not herpes it is fordyce spots. So now i am confused what is this problem. What should i do for confirm my diagnosis. Because i have sore throat and itchingso i think this is herpes. What chances are for herpes in this condition.
I would usually apply my Acyclovir ointment a few times a day to the cold sore and take two pills of Lysine, one in the morning and one at night and usually in a day or two it would be gone. I just wasn't sure if using these two things was safe while pregnant. I will be calling my doctor tomorrow to ask but I would love anyones opinion on anyone who has used these products while pregnant. Thank you!

Recently my family doctor prescribed me to take tablets Acyclovir 400mg for one week 4 times a day. I wonder can it help herpes stop? my husband is irritated by these on the corner of my lips and he is freaked he may get it. can the tablets be a real long-term cure?
It appears that all these things that I mentioned and tried, were just aggravating the virus. I have been on acyclovir for about 1 year now. So far no outbreak. I am just worried when I stop the meds, it might start its appearance again. I don't want to stop the meds just yet. Does anyone know if I can take nosodes alongside with acyclovir. In the mean time my doctor prescribed acyclovir 800mg to be take one table 5 times a day. I also got zovirax ointment to put on the mouth ulcer 3 times a day and this stuff is really bitter. In addition, before I saw my general physician, I was given nystatin oral suspension by an ER doctor and he told to me to use it 4 times a day for 7 days. I did, but the thrush is still there. I been told that oral thrush on the tongue causes bad breath, but to be honest with you I do not have bad breath.
D ointment, neosporin, Aquasomething, powdr, etc. My pharmacist suggested putting peroxide on the site, letting it air dry and then applying Gold Bond powder. Do you have any suggestions. The side effects are too severe to continue on Valtrex. Dr. said to try acyclovir, but research shows it has the same ingredients only in lower milligram strength. Has anyone, who couldn't tolerate Valtrex, have success with acyclovir?

You need to be treated for this though genital herpes cannot be cured. There are antiviral drugs like acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir which can shorten the episodes and decrease their severity. Acyclovir reduces the pain and number of lesions in the initial case of herpes and reduces recurrence. The ointment applied topically reduces pain, healing time and limits the spread.
