1580703 tn?1651904887 I got bell's palsy after being hit in the face several times. I'm still disfigured 7 months after and can't smile well. Is there going to be any improvement in the future? will taking acyclovir or prednisone help?
1580703 tn?1651904887 after being punched in the face I developed Bell's Palsy and blindness in one eye. I had blurry and grey vision and think it's from the eye muscle being paralyzed. I'm scared of going blind because I've seen videos on youtube of people not fully recovering after 2 years and not being able to smile. I went on prednisone 40mg tapered and acyclovir and it is helping some, but I'm still not back to normal.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Bell's palsy is more common in diabetics. The etiology is unclear. Viral infections are one trigger, along with herpes or shingles. Some people have lasting effects, but in most it disappears. All of the problems stem from impingement upon various cranial nerves. The prednsone stops or reduces swelling and thus impingement.
1503643 tn?1311518238 One of my nephews was just diagnosed with bilateral bell's palsy on both sides of his face. I've been told that only 1% get the dysphasia on both sides. But this is all I know. I don't really know what it is or what kind of treatment there is. Or if this is something that can be treated and cured. Am I even in the right forum for this?
1580703 tn?1651904887 after 3 months and a week of prednisone and acyclovir I'm still disfigured from Bell's Palsy, I look terrible when I try to smile and sometimes my head turns when I try to smile. I tried acupuncture, it seems to help is there any hope for me to regain my nerve function and smiling?
Avatar n tn Hair loss is not a side effect of acyclovir. there are some antedotal reports of a few folks experiencing it but it's not something that hardly anyone gets and isn't something to worry about. it also won't cause an increase in blood pressure either. Are you outside of the US? Acyclovir can be taken suppressively 400mg 2x/day for easier dosing. I recommend that dose instead of the 3x/day dose for your convenience for taking it long term.
Avatar m tn About 3 weeks ago i hurt my should lifting something...was my left should...from a 1-10 i was in about an 8 in pain...well the pain went away...on friday dec 10th i started to feel very weird on the left side of my face...it wasnt normal..as if my muscles were very weak..so i decided to go to the ER and they took my blood and did a CAT scan on me....CAT scan came back normal...but they said that the cpk level in my blood was way to high.. Avatar m tn Oral hsv1 is linked to Bell's Palsy, not genital. Herpes infects nerve groups, so if you have genital herpes, it doesn't affect your face, and vice versa. There are other causes of Bell's Palsy, though, like Lyme Disease and Epstein-Barr, which causes mono. Yes, hsv1 is the cause for a large number of cases, but it's not the only one. The other thing to note is that the IgG test can miss 30% of hsv1 infections.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy in 2000, and given the same prescription, but with a lot of research and asked the doctor if it could be trigenimal neuralgia. Turns out I did. However, in 2010, I had what seemed like a stroke, but found out this Monday was MS. I had a second seizure and lost sight in my left eye. No bueno. Don't ever settle for what they tell you. You need to always search and ask questions.
Avatar n tn Dear Ewat, Whenever someone has paralysis or weakness in their facial movement, the first thing is to rule out the possiblity of stroke. While stroke is more common in older folks, it can happen in the young, particularly if they are smokers or are on the birth control pill. Usually, however, the symptoms of stroke occur suddenly and you say that your symptoms have been present for as long as you can remember, so it is likely that something else is causing your symptoms.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have had bell's palsy more then 10 times in the last 2 years. Had a mri done and two small spots showed up in the white matter of my brain. I had a lumbar puncture done, still waiting on the results. Could many bell's palsy attacks be a sign for ms? If not what could be causing so many attacks?
Avatar n tn Hi I was wondering if you ever received any answers and if you feel better now. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis in October 2019 and got Bell's Palsy end of February 2020. It's now July and I still have the Bell's Palsy. Just wondering if you have any answers you can share. Thank you.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? The numbness on your head and face maybe due to Bell's palsy, complex migraines and other neurological issues. In Bell's palsy, the muscles in your face become temporarily paralyzed. It usually affects just one side of the face. If it persists, have this evaluated further for proper management. Direct clinical examination and complete neurological examination will rule out any nerve-problems or infection. Take care and do keep us posted.
410281 tn?1254229064 My understanding is that true Bell's Palsy is caused by a peripheral nerve problem. But the root of the cranial nerve (is it VII?) is in the brain, and therefore a lesion in this region (maybe the pons?) could cause a CNS version of Bell's Palsy. A close friend of mine has had Bell's Palsy 3 times in 10 years. The doctors can find no obvious cause for her repeated Bell's Palsy, but she has permanent nerv damage on her face.
Avatar n tn Contracted Bell's Palsy Oct. 2017 after Flu Vaccine Sept 26th approx. 3weeks before taken to Emergency for fear of having a Stroke. Bell's Palsy was determined to be cause of sagging face/lips. I am currently seeking as much info and as many people that have been affected after a Flu Vaccination. Seems to be a rare phenomena but there was conclusive evidence in 2000-2001 with Berna Bio-Tech's Nasal Flu that was recalled due to Bell's Palsy complaints.
Avatar f tn on tuesday i was admited in the hospital the said had a condition call bell's palsy when i return home look it up and i read one reason i could have gotten that is that if iam pregnant is that true i have not taken a test yet cause i scared i will be disappointed if it is negative but i keep looking for symtoms like the red line you get on your belly but have none.
Avatar m tn If my partner just got Bell's palsy should I go get my self checked out for herpes? This discussion is related to <a href="/posts/STDs/Chlamydia-and-hiv-fine-but-what-abt-herpes-and-bells-palsy/show/1763055">Chlamydia and hiv fine but what abt herpes and bells palsy</a>.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your reply: I did thyroid function test. The results are OK (TSH and FreeT4) I did Haematology. The results are OK. (white blood cell, red blood cell, haemoglobin, haematocrit(PVC), mean cell volume, mean cell Hb, red cell distribution width, Mean cell HB conc, platelets, peripherial blood film, ESR) >>Any medications for the Bell's Palsy? I was given 5 days steroids and antiviral (ZORAL) and B12 supplement.
Avatar f tn Hi there. That must be upsetting to have this recurring so often. We are not doctors here. We're just patients. There are several potential causes of Bell's Palsy, so I would suggest you bring this up to your doctor in precisely the same way you've mentioned it here. Try and provide them with the timeline of your experience with Bell's Palsy. I hope they are able to provide you with answers!
Avatar m tn Hi, I,m new on here and basically , I have Bell's palsy about a month or more now. I struggled to tape my eye shut and last week , I had to go eye clinic , to get my eye checked out, they gave me antibiotics, and call back in a few days , I called back and they said I had an ulcer , they also stitched my eye partially shut as I can't close fully with Bell's palsy, so I was told to keep taking antibiotic Chloromycetin 4 times a day, lacri lube 6 times and at night .
Avatar f tn Bell's palsy is a form of facial paralysis resulting from a dysfunction of the cranial nerve VII (the facial nerve) causing an inability to control facial muscles on the affected side. Several conditions can cause facial paralysis, e.g., brain tumor, stroke, myasthenia gravis, and Lyme disease. However, if no specific cause can be identified, the condition is known as Bell's palsy.
Avatar f tn Most studies indicate that Bell's Palsy is caused by the inflammation of the facial nerve and this can occur as a result of the herpes virus; even herpes simplex. I see no real connection to Breast Cancer Treatment. On occasion it may well happen to someone who is post-treatment for breast cancer but it is known to affect men and women equally / breast cancer, Chemotherapy or not.
Avatar m tn Welcome back to the Forum. As you probably know, Dr. Handsfield and I share the forum. You got me this time. FYI, the reason we share the forum is because we have worked together for nearly 30 years and while our verbiage styles vary, we have never disagreed on management strategies or advice to clients. I did review your earlier interaction with Dr. Handsfield and note that you think you got your chlamydia through either a failed condom or hand to genital contact an Dr. Handsfield does not.
