Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy in 2000, and given the same prescription, but with a lot of research and asked the doctor if it could be trigenimal neuralgia. Turns out I did. However, in 2010, I had what seemed like a stroke, but found out this Monday was MS. I had a second seizure and lost sight in my left eye. No bueno. Don't ever settle for what they tell you. You need to always search and ask questions.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Hello and hope you are doing well. Though the facial nerve is a cranial nerve, damage usually takes place peripherally, thats when it is referred to as bell's palsy. This can cause inadequate closure of the eyelids and consequent exposure keratitis. Why was acyclovir given? It is usually given for a viral infection. As you are recovering, I would advise you to continue with your medications and physical therapy. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar n tn I have a friend who developed Bells Palsy just during her pregnancy but it cleared up after her baby was born. Wikipedia does a nice job of describing Bells Palsy and the causes. Flu shots are not mentioned.

Avatar f tn I am a 32/f and I've had Bells Palsy 3 times in my life.. I was wondering if there was any link to HPV? Is bells palsy even considered a virus? I do however want to let everyone know that the last time I had bells palsy was last summer, I started feeling a wierd sensation in my upper lip on the right side. I immediately went to the doctor and they put me on steriods and it did not stop the process it just slowed down the intial outcome.
Avatar f tn t see any polls? There are multiple reasons for Bells Palsy but many are from viruses with herpes on the list. However, so is influenza, and many other viruses. It's from damage to nerves in the face. Trauma can also cause this and people with diabetes are more prone to get it. I have a friend who got it out of nowhere. Never did she figure out why. But the good news is it does NOT mean you are likely to have a stroke.
Avatar f tn I have had Bells Palsy over the course of 15 years a total of 5 times (once on my right side and 4 times on my left side). I have every symptom of Bells Palsy but I went to a Neurologist who says he doesn't belive that I had bells palsy because my body responded so well to the treatment. He ruled out MS, RA, B-12 deficiency. In the past 3 days I have had pain from the top of my head on the left down to my chin. I felt like I was getting the Bells Palsy again. After talking to the Dr.
Avatar f tn Hi , I was just wondering if anyone else had bells palsy. I was told it was self limiting, and written about in medical books for years. An ancient disease. I assumed it was not a big deal. but the pain was horrible. The fact that I got it twice within seven years I believe raised a red flag. I did not ask my neuro about it (a corralation) when I was dx'ed with ms, but the neuro seemed very interested. I was just wondering if anyone else had it.
Avatar n tn i am a woman of 26 and have had bells palsy twice ( and alopecha! ) but at the moment dont have the bells palsy and recently or the past 5 weeks have been having bad facial twitching on the affected side of my face (the left side was twice affected by bells ) is it caused by stress the bells or the recent twitching? how will it stop?

Avatar f tn I have partial Bells Palsy on the right side of my face. Not too noticeable, but I have read that Bells Palsy that is not complete should go away within a few weeks, mine has been over a month. When I went to an urgent care they would not recommend an MRI or any other testing (probably because I have no insurance). I am worried that this could be a bigger problem than Bells.
Avatar f tn Looking for information for a family member who has also been diagnosed with Bells Palsy 4 times in the past few years. She is always in pain and has awful headaches and has fainted. The doctors aren't very helpful.
Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me if Genital herpes and Bells palsy are linked?
Avatar n tn Herpes simplex (HSV) and herpes zoster have been identified as the cause of Bells palsy in a large number of cases.Other causes include tumor, meningitis, stroke, diabetes mellitus, head trauma. Most of us have a dormant HSV in our body and it needs to be reactivated to cause Bells palsy. The reactivated virus can certainly cause damage to the facial nerve. Did your husband suffer from Herpes simplex or Herpes zoster? Herpes simplex is contagious but herpes zoster isn't. Best..

Avatar f tn Well, about a month before delivery for my son, I got Bells Palsy. Drinking water and it dribbled out one side of my mouth. Scared me to death. Went to ER and was told it was a common occurrence when pregnant. I had never even heard of it. So, if I had it for the first one, am I more likely to also have it happen this time as well?
Avatar f tn Most studies indicate that Bell's Palsy is caused by the inflammation of the facial nerve and this can occur as a result of the herpes virus; even herpes simplex. I see no real connection to Breast Cancer Treatment. On occasion it may well happen to someone who is post-treatment for breast cancer but it is known to affect men and women equally / breast cancer, Chemotherapy or not.
Avatar m tn Bell's Palsy can be caused by trauma and it can also have a delayed presentation after the trauma, although usually not after a 2 month time frame and IF you didn't additionally sustain head and or a facial injury during the dog attack, a condition like Bell's Palsy is very unlikely to have been caused by the type of trauma injury you are saying happened during the dog attack... "What causes Bell's Palsy?
Avatar f tn Anyone else experience bells palsy during pregnancy? I'm 8 weeks pregnant with my first and have had bells for about a week. I was prescribed medications that my OB said are fine to take but Im just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. If ypu have can you advise of how long it took to go away?
Avatar m tn My son had bell's palsy 6 months ago. His affected eye was bigger but now appears marginally smaller than the normal eye. Also when he smiles spontaneously the affected eye tends to close more than the normal eye. Will his affected eye get even smaller over the next few months or will it stay at this level ? He is 21 years old and was treated with prednisone for 7 days when he was first diagnosed with bell's palsy.
Avatar m tn No need unless you're having symptoms that suggest you have oral herpes yourself.
Avatar f tn My son is 19 months old he got bells palsy when he was 10 months old he has been to many places and no one seems to be helping my son out that much and now i dont think he has bells palsy anymore but i can see his right eye doesn't shut and open up like the left eye, please do you have any suggestions?
Avatar m tn Hey ,1 month back i got disease "Bells Palsy" on right side of my face.I went to doctor they give me antiviral drugs, they didn't tell me any specific reason why it happens(may be due to cold exposure)this reason seems to be possible for me . they asked me whether i am diabetic or not,They took my MRI brain scan test, but they didn't found anything. Now it is completely gone within 2 weeks.
Avatar m tn Significant facial distortion may be present. Prednisone used to reduce inflammation and swelling is an effective treatment for bell’s palsy. Acyclovir, analgesics like aspirin, keeps the eye moist and protect from debris. Physical therapy to stimulate nerve and maintain muscle tone may benefit. Prognosis is good. Recovery is within 2 weeks to 6 months. Take care.
