Since I had outbreaks quite often, I was prescribed suppressive treatment of two 200mg Acyclovir tablets per day.
Most articles online state that outbreaks typically get less significant and frequent over time.
I get cold sores(the herpies virus kind) all the time. I know it sounds painful, but I put rubbing alcohol on it when it first starts tingeling, and about every hour or so for the first 3 days(except at night). It works, please try it! When I tell people, they think I'm crazy, but when they try it, they can't believe it! If June form at all(which sometimes they go caway completely) they last about a week instead of 3, and they never scab.
Does applying rubbing alcohol to a upcoming/open sore on the penis shaft help heal the outbreak faster?
Hi, I have been taking acyclovir 400mg tablets 2x daily for 2 years now and along with several lifestyle changes (which includes almost no alcohol and good sleeping pattern) I have had pretty much success in suppressing my yearly OBs from 6-8 outbreaks a year to none noticeable outbreaks at all.
So I finally called up my doctor took a plunge and paid 50 dollars for acyclovir. He prescribed me this medicine to be taken twice daily and hoped it would work as well as the queen medicine Valtrex for $208.00 they have lost their minds. My thoughts on this were wow pick on the herpes patients why don't ya. Just like gas they know we need it so we will pay what it is priced for. JERKS!!

t need test. And prescribed acyclovir. I told that I definitely need test . And he made pcr swab and Igg and igm test for 1&2 herpes.Everything come back negative. He told probably I just got it and I need time. I told to my new girlfriend and we went to clinic and she also passed Igg and igm for herpes. Everything came back negative. He told that probably you got it from past relationships and it's appears now.
I stopped taking acyclovir in December 2011. I have had numerous outbreaks like once a month or every couple of months. I have had HSV2 four years and four months now. My last outbreak was maybe eight weeks ago. Shouldn't my outbreaks decrease since I have had the virus for some time.I would like to know is that too many outbreaks to be experiencing.
i started taking acyclovir a few days ago for the first time for a mild cold sore breakout. 2 days after i started, the cold sores got more intense, and 2 new huge cold sores came up out of nowhere. i have 3 more days left of the medication, and i'm going to keep taking it, but what should i do? these cold sores are not going away, and it seems like its getting worse! so done with these friggin things...
Like most I cannot afford Valtrex any more. I have switched to Acyclovir. I've used it effectively for the couple of outbreaks but it seems to be taking considerably longer. I am taking L-Lysene as a suppressor and only take the Acyclovir at the first sign of an outbreak. I was taking 1000mg Valtrex at onset and then 500mg twice a day and everything was clear in 3 days. To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks?
Does Acyclovir make anyone else feel completely terrible? I get terrible headaches, dizzy, diarrhea and feel just awful. im not sure which is worse sometimes.
their provider needs to better educate himself on acyclovir. we start children on oral acyclovir suppressively from month of age upward as needed. no need for any labs or anything either from it.
the arginine/lysine theory never panned out outside of the lab actually. They are even using arginine to treat herpes in research now. Children drink a lot of milk which balances it out anyways.
at this point I'd seek out the advice of a pediatric dermatologist for your son.
t had one since being pregnant but have had tons since I was little. I would dissolve a tylenol in alcohol and make a paste to put on at night (not pretty) but I swear it helps with the swelling it hurts when you put it on but it helps afterwards with the pain ans throbbing I would have and during the day I use abreva on it. If I start this the first day I get one within 3 days its down and scabed over.
s September/ December/ February/April/ 2 in June. I have taken 800mg Acyclovir for 2 days each time which settles them ussually but not this time.
Why are my OB's getting more frequent after a year when they should be less? My diet/ exercise/ alcohol/ sleep and work patterns haven't changed. Neither have I been sexually active since that relationship broke down in September.
Can GHSV1 become resistent to acyclovir?
I had an cold sore pop up from stress last week, and I have been putting L-Lysine on it to help with healing. I was drinking alcohol and in my drunken stupor, wiped the excess medicine (the Lysine) from my lip. About 5 minutes later, I went to the bathroom. Immediately I became concerned and began checking internet forums for any and all information pertaining to an individual giving themselves HSV-2 from their own HSV-1.
Acyclovir is always 2x/day for suppressive therapy. You can not take acyclovir just 800mg 1x/day. It's not effective that way. Call your provider up and question that dose. If they say that that dose works too -ask them to please cite the research that backs that. I guarantee you they can't provide any that shows that 800mg once a day is effective for acyclovir!!
do you have hsv1 or hsv2 genitally? How about orally - which one?
Greatly simplified - you swallow valtrex and your body converts it into acyclovir inside the body. You get more active acyclovir available to kick a little herpes butt by doing it this way. That's why you take valtrex less often. We don't have studies to confirm that acyclovir reduces transmission the same amount as valtrex does but we assume it does.

Abreva works well if they aren't too bad. Also, it burns like hell but when abreva stopped working for me I just ripped the blister open and dabbed it with rubbing alcohol. They're so bad now that I have to get a prescription of Acyclovir from my doc or my whole mouth will swell and be covered in blisters.
acyclovir is 400mg 2x/day every single day. she will still get recurrences while on daily suppressive therapy regardless of if she's on acyclovir or valtrex, you just take acyclovir more often than you do valtrex.
a week ago, I felt something ichy below my lips, and it feels like theres something inside it started out small and after a few hours it multiplies then it gets bigger, im eating my usual food, im not putting anything on my face, and i always took a bath and wash my face before i sleep, it gets at least .5 of a centimeter and it has water inside, i popped it out then put a cotton alcohol on it.
