Avatar n tn t prescribing any medication for me but tells me to continue taking calcium supplement and Vitamin D and come back in a year to do another test. Since I am obviously having osteoporosis, shouldn't I be taking any prescription drug? I am worried sick over the reading and need some expert opinion to go back and talk to my doctor again. Thank you in advance for any comment.
719868 tn?1230422075 Actonel, plus Vitamin D3-ANALOG from Denmark for bone re-mineralization (which is not available in the USA yet, but has been used all over Europe with lab proven success), and Crestor for high cholesterol. I had to come to Panama to be diagnosed with Hashi/hypo because my USA family doctor would not run any test except TSH, even though I repeatedly asked him to do the thyroid panel. He said the TSH was normal so no need to test any more.
Avatar f tn Nexium also affects vitamin B12 levels because the body can’t absorb the vitamin without stomach acid to uncouple the vitamin from protein in food. It also affects the absorption of calcium, which in turn can lead to osteoporosis and fractures. Discuss your concerns with your doctor before stopping any medication. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar n tn prolia may cause low calcium levels, especially if you have kidney problems. Take calcium and vitamin D as directed by your doctor. (See also How to Use section.) Your doctor will order calcium blood tests before your first injection and during treatment.
1026267 tn?1257591273 Increasing your consumption of alkaline foods is a big plus. Our bodies leech calcium from our bones trying to balance our ph resulting from highly acidic diets. I was able to increase my hip density (without bone drugs) even though I did have a little loss in my spine this last dexascan.
974371 tn?1424653129 I also read today that taking Vit E and Calcium can cause kidney stones. My Endo doc put me on these due to Osteoporosis and I won't take Fosomax or Actonel. However, due to the stomach issues, I haven't taken them in weeks.
720656 tn?1311040235 You might want to ask your pharmacist for more specific directions as far as the timing of your meds. I take Actonel once a month and my pharmacist said it was fine to take it at the same time as my levothyroxine since Actonel is also supposed to be taking first thing in the morning. Don't mix meds unless you get an all clear from a pharmacist.

Avatar f tn it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
294425 tn?1288528395 A couple of weeks ago, I went to the ER for something else, and they discovered my calcium level was 12.5. This seemed to have everyone very concerned. My ionized calcium was 6.11. They gave me Lasix in the ER, and admitted me. The next day, my PTH was 70 and my calcium was 9.4. The day after that, my ionized calcium was 5.26. On the fourth day it was 5.22, my total calcium was 9.3, and my vitamin D, 1,25 was 48. I was discharged and told to see an endocrinologist. The first appt.
Avatar n tn yogurt! it tastes good and provides calcium.
Avatar f tn How much calcium do you have a day? My prenatal pills don't have calcium and I heard I'm supposed to have 2 glasses of milk a day. I don't drink milk so I've been doing 2 glasses of oj with calcium.
Avatar n tn I have had osteopenia for many years; I have been able to rebuild my bone density by taking calcium and magnesium, but if you've already been diagnosed with osteoporosis, you might need to go on a med specifically for that. What is your current thyroid status?
Avatar f tn She started out with Fosamax, and after awhile when side effects start from that one, and Actonel was available, they put her on Actonel and she was on Actonel all the way up until it was stopped at 79. So, I have that in my mind (her being mom and my genes and all), and decided that I want to put off bone drugs as long as I can. If I can reverse this w/o them, than I'm going to.
974371 tn?1424653129 Just today I had read that Calcium and Vit D may contribute to the formation of kidney stones, both of which my Endocronologist has prescribed for my Osteoporosis. I see her on Friday for thyroid nodule follow up. The doctor I saw today dies not agree with the high doses. It is a concern because every time they do these tests they always mention the spine degeneration, ESP at L2and L3. I also have it in my neck. So, what do I do?
8793709 tn?1409594060 Tums! 1000mg in 2 of calcium. Plus helps with the heartburn.
Avatar m tn Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn My Mammo showed calcium Deposits in my left Breast and the Dr wants me to have a Biopsy to make sure I am OK. Why do women developed calcium Deposits and is this common as we age? I have no history of Breast cancer in my family. I am a little worry.
Avatar f tn According to most pharmacists Caltrate Plus is not the ideal form of getting calcium. It is not digested easily by the body. Calcium Citrate with added magnesium and Vit D is much better. That is not a brand name but the type of calcium which is far superior. It also doesn't give you constipation as Caltrate Plus does.
Avatar m tn Increase your intake of potassium, calcium, and magnesium. Have you stopped the SP? Or are you still taking it? Maybe you're taking too much? V.
Avatar f tn Certain compounds in foods may slightly decrease iron absorptions, such as oxalic acid in spinach, phosphates in milk and egg whites, phytates in beans and other vegetables, and possibly the tannins in tea. Calcium supplements also may decrease iron absorption, so avoid taking them with iron-rich foods ( like taking your calcium supplement at bedtime instead of at breakfast ). To get enough iron, eat a wide variety of foods rich in iron, such as those listed in the following table.
