Avatar n tn Right hip replacement. I'm on requip, lyrica, cymbalta, celebrex, just starting actonel plus vitamins & calcium. thank you. I'm 76, female. I have osteoporosis of the right hip and osteopenia of the left hip. I have peripheral neuropathy (familial), and two bad knees.
Avatar n tn t prescribing any medication for me but tells me to continue taking calcium supplement and Vitamin D and come back in a year to do another test. Since I am obviously having osteoporosis, shouldn't I be taking any prescription drug? I am worried sick over the reading and need some expert opinion to go back and talk to my doctor again. Thank you in advance for any comment.
Avatar f tn Nexium also affects vitamin B12 levels because the body can’t absorb the vitamin without stomach acid to uncouple the vitamin from protein in food. It also affects the absorption of calcium, which in turn can lead to osteoporosis and fractures. Discuss your concerns with your doctor before stopping any medication. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn I take once monthly Actonel. While I was pushing the pill through the foil blister, it broke. I did not take that pill for fear that it could cause stomach problems. My question is would it have been safe to take? Also, if I contact Proctor & Gamble, do you think they might replace the pill. If it was a daily pill, I wouldn't worry about, but I just lost a whole month of medicine due to a faulty package design.
Avatar n tn prolia may cause low calcium levels, especially if you have kidney problems. Take calcium and vitamin D as directed by your doctor. (See also How to Use section.) Your doctor will order calcium blood tests before your first injection and during treatment.
974371 tn?1424653129 I also read today that taking Vit E and Calcium can cause kidney stones. My Endo doc put me on these due to Osteoporosis and I won't take Fosomax or Actonel. However, due to the stomach issues, I haven't taken them in weeks.
720656 tn?1311040235 You might want to ask your pharmacist for more specific directions as far as the timing of your meds. I take Actonel once a month and my pharmacist said it was fine to take it at the same time as my levothyroxine since Actonel is also supposed to be taking first thing in the morning. Don't mix meds unless you get an all clear from a pharmacist.
Avatar n tn i currnetly am taking actonel for my bones the past 3 years and klonopin i per night and take alot of vitamins such as B compex etc. no alcohol consumption but i do smoke half a pack of cigarettes per day no other medical conditions known 6 months ago all my blood workups were normal . ANY IDEAS WHAT CAN BE GOING ON WITH ME ?
Avatar f tn it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
294425 tn?1288528395 A couple of weeks ago, I went to the ER for something else, and they discovered my calcium level was 12.5. This seemed to have everyone very concerned. My ionized calcium was 6.11. They gave me Lasix in the ER, and admitted me. The next day, my PTH was 70 and my calcium was 9.4. The day after that, my ionized calcium was 5.26. On the fourth day it was 5.22, my total calcium was 9.3, and my vitamin D, 1,25 was 48. I was discharged and told to see an endocrinologist. The first appt.
Avatar n tn I have had osteopenia for many years; I have been able to rebuild my bone density by taking calcium and magnesium, but if you've already been diagnosed with osteoporosis, you might need to go on a med specifically for that. What is your current thyroid status?
1026267 tn?1257591273 Do you have any calcium labs that show you are deficient?? A doctor shouldn't prescribe that unless you have shown deficiency and bone loss. Did you also have a bone density test done.
Avatar f tn She started out with Fosamax, and after awhile when side effects start from that one, and Actonel was available, they put her on Actonel and she was on Actonel all the way up until it was stopped at 79. So, I have that in my mind (her being mom and my genes and all), and decided that I want to put off bone drugs as long as I can. If I can reverse this w/o them, than I'm going to.
974371 tn?1424653129 Just today I had read that Calcium and Vit D may contribute to the formation of kidney stones, both of which my Endocronologist has prescribed for my Osteoporosis. I see her on Friday for thyroid nodule follow up. The doctor I saw today dies not agree with the high doses. It is a concern because every time they do these tests they always mention the spine degeneration, ESP at L2and L3. I also have it in my neck. So, what do I do?
Avatar m tn Non-hormonal biphosphonates (such as Fosamax and Actonel) increase bone strength and are available as once-a-week pills. These can also be taken. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn As I have osteoporosis besides hep b, I have been taking Actonel 35mg for 5 years with little improvements and my doctor added now Evister for about 6 months. But I feel that those medicines are not helping me at all and may be they are damaging my already infected liver. So I decided to drop them and take instead vitamin k-2 (Menatetrenone (MK-4)) and I found this article and similar ones in internet. http://www.aor.ca/assets/Research/pdf/Advances_10_May_2006_Menatetrenone.
Avatar f tn I am in the military and consequently have to conform to what doctors they permit me to see. I have been to one endocrinologist in my area and due to my lack of confidence in the doctor and the ridiculously bad administration within the office, I requested to be switched to the only other endocrinologist in the area that I am permitted to see.
Avatar f tn When dealing with nodules, etc I would definitely be seeing an Endocrinologist! I am having other health issues but thyroid problems run in almost all the females on my Mom's died of the family from hypo, hyper, Graves, etc. I also have Osteoporosis and that doc greats that also. I won't take Fosomax or Actonel. I have at least 5 nodules and a cyst, I think. She has ordered two biopsies, benign, and an ultrasound every 6 mos. I actually go see her tomorrow.
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.
Avatar n tn He wants me to see a rheumatologist but an available appointment will be months away. I am 75 and have been on Vytorin for at least 5 years as well as Actonel. My bone scan last year was good for someone my age. What should I do while waiting to see an arthritis doctor? How serious could this be?
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar f tn Wow you posted on my birthday and we seem to have a few of the same symptoms. I am in need of relief ASAP. This is the type of pain that wears on your nerves and tends to make one a bit irritable. I am 56 and mine also is mostly at night here's my story. I am a 56 yr young female. Who is a Christian and loves the Lord. Before all this occurred and even after some what enjoyed living, traveling, dancing, gardening, being with friends and family to the fullest.
