Abscess gum cavity

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess gum cavity

abscess

Avatar f tn I have a tooth abscess on a tooth that is badly chipped/broken and has a major cavity. It's sort of like 1/4 of the tooth is gone and you can feel the gum in that spot. I saw my dentist 4 days ago and was given pencillin, and ibuprofen and vicodin for pain to rid the infection to have it treated. They are closed on weekends, so I haven't tried to call but am not sure if I should seek out some urgent care.
Avatar n tn 1) There are several different types of abscess but the most common is a periapical abscess in which there is a cavity in the tooth that invades the pulp of the tooth. The bacteria then travels down the pulp into the jawbone and begins to destroy the jawbone.
Avatar f tn Dentist insisted on placing perm crowns - different crown materials (about six weeks ago.) Afterwards, pressure sensitivity improved but gum swelled on the linqual side. Dentist treated with Cavitron and said tooth would need to be extracted if swelling continued. Four days ago, had tooth 14 prepped for crown. All okay first day, then cheek and jaw started swelling and have not improved. No pain in tooth 14. Made an independent appt with Oral Surgeon but can't get in for three weeks.
Avatar m tn I went to the doctor and they prescribed me antibiotics (flagyl and amoxycillin duo forte), when it was clearing up I had a feeling in my gum/mouth of like a cavity, i can't really describe the feeling... felt like it was swollen, like something was there... but that went away. A couple of days ago I got that "something there" feeling back in my top gum (where the abscess was before) but I have no pain, when i palpate my gum it is sore but i have no soreness or pain with it otherwise.
Avatar f tn I have an abscess in a broken tooth on the upper right side, 2nd tooth from the back. I feel a lump on the upper portion of the gum line, near where the jaw connects. My cheek is swollen and I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I am afraid that it has spread into my cheek cavity. How serious is this? What is the worst thing that can happen if I am unable to go to a dentist? I don't have any insurance. Should I go to the emergency room?
Avatar f tn I have mod-advanced periodontal disease and developed a PA abscess and cyst in 7 months which caused severe pain and swelling that required extraction. How did it come about? Is it from dental decay combined with periodontal disease? It was tooth 26 with over 7 mm gum pocket and 50% mobility.. Just wondering if I could have saved it earlier with maybe a root canal? Hope to hear from some expert.
Avatar m tn I had an intense toothache caused by a broken tooth (half the tooth remains the broken area is at the gum line) and was gradually preparing to visit a dentist. but then i suffered a sudden and intense ear infection. I went to the er and received several iv's of antibiotics and was given a script for 1000 mg of amoxicillin per day (4 doses of 250) for 3 weeks. my tooth stopped hurting about 2 weeks into the prescription and it has not hurt for 5 weeks now.
Avatar f tn Hi, lump in the gums above and adjacent to the teeth most commonly can be tooth abscess or fistula opening due to infected tooth. You may just check out any frank cavity or food imapaction area in related teeth to the swelling. In such case you may need antibiotics and root canal treatment of the affected tooth with the help of a dentist. Other possibilties could be pyogenic granuloma, fibroma, periodontal abscess etc. Check out with local dentist to confirm.
Avatar f tn My daughter had three fillings in October. She has developed gum abscesses on all three fillings, resulting in two extraction, with the three abscess just popping up today. I know that the cavities were not that deep. Is there any explaination for this occurance?
Avatar m tn After a few days I noticed that the gum under the tooth had become swollen but I had no pain, so I returned to ask the dentist to file it down as I thought that it was bruising the gum. She had a quick look and said I had an abscess and may need RCT and gave me antibiotics. She said that even though she had suggested temp cement because I was in no pain she had actually used perm cement so would have to drill through. Gum still swollen and felt wobbly, so saw dentist again.
Avatar m tn Dentist put in temp filling for few week - extremely painful for few days, gum went white underneath and lots of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in tooth (prob due to LT problem with TMJ). I returned to dentist for crown prep and she said that due to this problem with temp filling and fact that hole went close to root cavity I may need RCT.
Avatar m tn Hi.I am aware that my wisdom tooth is being retained in the gum after I took an X ray, but after months, that area of my gum smells very bad whenever I push it with my finger or by chewing food on it. It also smells in the gap between the gum and the next tooth. I hate this and wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions to reduce this smell.
Avatar n tn A couple of weeks ago the gum around the tooth became sore and this week a small (about 2-3mm in diameter) abscess formed. This abscess then burst but another formed (and then also burst). Today I went to my dentist who told me there was an infection between two roots of the tooth and cleaned out the gum and treated it with medication. She also told me that if this treatment did not work then the tooth would have to be extracted.
Avatar m tn Just discovered I have both of these a couple months ago after noticing a lump in my gum. The cyst has been eating away at my jaw and has perforated it, I've had no pain, but will be getting surgery soon. My question is what are the chances of the tooth infection contributing to my chronic fatigue? I have found a few only posts stating, infections can make you feel lousy, fatigued etc. But no real solid information or testimonials.
Avatar m tn The inflammation went away from the inside gum and came back on the outside gum. I made it to a dentist on friday who said that it was an abscess and that she might need to do a root canal on it again. She put me on amoxycillin - today is the 4th day and the swelling and pain are reduced a lot. the dentist told me on the phone that she wants me to go to an endodentist for further root canal and maybe surgical treatment.
Avatar m tn I've had dental abscesses before - one required tooth extraction, the other, root canal. I have now noticed a white "pimple" on my gum next to a virgin tooth, i.e., a tooth that has never had a cavity or filling. Something similar occurred several years ago and was found by my dentist's assistant. When the dentist examined it, he told her that it couldn't be an abscess because it was a virgin tooth. My question is, can an abscess develop at a virgin tooth?
Avatar f tn he took his little mirror and looked at the roof of his mouth and ordered xrays (yes he did ahve a cavity) he also had a huge lump on his roof of his mouth. he said it was an abscess and that it needs to be dealt with. Chris lost his 4 upper teeth due to the abscess(they think it was from one of the times he was on a ventalator and that is why he wouldn't let us brush his teeth. I would give her dentist a call first thing monday morning.
Avatar m tn After a few days I noticed this was aggrevating my TMJ and that the gum under the tooth had become swollen but I had no pain, so I returned to ask the dentist to file it down as I thought that it was bruising the gum. She had a quick look and said I had an abscess and needed RCT and since she had used permanent cement she would have to drill through. She said that even though she had suggested temp cement because I was in no pain she had actually used perm cement.
Avatar m tn When the did the surgery they found an abscess (cavity). I had them pull the molar, and they cleaned out the abscess. It is now March and my gum is still sore. Is this normal? I did have quite a few stitches in my mouth. Just wasn't sure if it should still be sore. I should say it is only sore when I touch up there.
Avatar f tn How long does it take for a cavity to develop a periapical abscess? When is the tooth too far gone to save it? Hope to hear from an expert.
Avatar n tn On the back right side of my gum, there is a cut where it connects to my check and gum behind my last tooth and the cut has a few white spots around it.. this occurred after eating hard cereal and it hurts very bad. i can not close my mouth all the way because of the swelling. what should i do?
Avatar n tn If it is gum disease, a proper cleaning should do the trick. The antibiotics help with any abscess or infection in the short term but a cleaning is necessary for long term care.

I made it to a dentist on friday who said that it was an abscess and that she might need to do a root canal on it again. She put me on amoxycillin - today is the 4th day and the swelling and pain are reduced a lot. there is a slight discomfort where the swelling is - just like a bruised arm would be irritated when something brushes against it.
168348 tn?1379360675 Don't get me started -- that's on top of the root canal bill for the abscess nobody knew I had and the tooth next to it that needs a cavity filled. Nope. May not enjoy pizza again for a long time ...
Avatar n tn If its due to a gum disease problem, you could continue to lose more jaw bone and develop an abscess. If its due to a cavity, the bacteria could travel to the pulp/nerve of the tooth and cause pain and again, potentially an abscess as well. A partial may be possible but if you're only replacing one tooth, it wouldn't be the ideal treatment.
Avatar n tn A few weeks ago, I noticed a sore bump on the upper gum. It causes no pain unless I press on it, then it is painful. It is all the way up on the highest part of the gum and it is above a tooth that has a cavity. This tooth is sore once in awhile. Are the two related? Is it some kind of infection? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I had a sore on my gum several weeks ago that filled like an abscess, although it wasn't in any way painful. I gently pressed the sore and it drained. Since then, I have had to press it to drain it every 2-3 days. I hadn't realised how much time had passed but it must be at least 6 weeks now. The sore is in front of a tooth that has a cavity in the jaw bone below as a result of an infection when the tooth was filled many years ago.
Avatar m tn My cheek right above the tooth and next to my nostril has also swelled up. The tooth is perfectly fine, no decay of any kind. The gum above the tooth is also perfectly fine. I had an abscess tooth before (oddly the exact same tooth just on the opposite side) about 2 years ago. The constant pressure feeling is the same but the swelling looks slightly different. When tapping my abscessed tooth there was incredible pain but now when i tap this tooth the pain hardly changes.
