Avatar n tn I've had an abscess on my gum area that started in my tooth for about a week. I've been on antibiotics (clindamycin 150 MG) for 5 days with painkillers. I've been swollen the entire time and have knot on my jaw. The dentist wont lance it because it hasn't come to a head yet. So, do I go to urgent care, or wait it out to see if it will ever come to a head? Thanks!
Avatar n tn If it can manage to break through the jaw bone and exit out of the gum, then the person can live with an abscess for years because the pus buildup in the jaw will leak out of the "gum boil," thus reducing the buildup of bacteria. 3) Which brings us to this question. If it doesn't escape through the jaw and into the mouth through the gums, it can also spread through the fascial planes of the head. These are spaces where muscles and tissues connect.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a tooth out next to my front tooth about 6 years ago and it got an abscess after the gum healed and closed about 6 months later. I have a wound outside the gum and I feel the abscess when I press under my nose. I have been to a surgeon and the xray showed a dark spot, but when they cut the gum I felt it all and cried and cried. Due to having high blood pressure they didn't numb the area well at all, so I made them stop.
Avatar n tn I'v just noticed a big abscess above my tooth, i already know i need root canal treatment for the tooth but my dentist can't take me for another week. Is it safe to wait that long without anti-biotics or treatment?
Avatar f tn Dentist insisted on placing perm crowns - different crown materials (about six weeks ago.) Afterwards, pressure sensitivity improved but gum swelled on the linqual side. Dentist treated with Cavitron and said tooth would need to be extracted if swelling continued. Four days ago, had tooth 14 prepped for crown. All okay first day, then cheek and jaw started swelling and have not improved. No pain in tooth 14. Made an independent appt with Oral Surgeon but can't get in for three weeks.
Avatar n tn I still need 2 crowns upper right, and one crown lower right with a few more cavities filled. My dentist says there is no signs of dental abscess, but I have been having a lot of bad symptoms that seem to be getting worse. I feel really ill all the time. All my teeth hurt, It comes, and goes for what seems like no reason at all. My face feels tight, and puffy sometimes. My eyes burn. I get headaches, and sensitivity to light.
Avatar f tn Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
4279185 tn?1352125277 Root canal failed and i developed an abscess on gum. Dentist at the time said best to leave it. Several years passed, new dentist decided to redo the root canal and perform an apiectomy. One day after stitches came out the familiar pimple was back. Since then i have lived with this infection, every so often i have to forcibly drain it to reduce the swelling and pain.
Avatar n tn The new development of “swelling of gums” is probably unrelated to your initial symptoms, (except to the extent that upper respiratory infection seems to predispose one to the development of these lesions) and consistent with what are called aphthous ulcers, but I cannot say with certainty that the two problems are unrelated. These sores are not a sign of a sinus abscess but raise the question. Depending upon what they prove to be should answer the question of what is going on.
Avatar f tn My husband is 33yrs old, doesn't have a dentist and his teeth are black, rotten and missing after many years of boxing with out a gum shild. He keeps on getting abscess and has told me he would like toget all is teeth taken out (what is left of them) but we dont know how to go about it? We dont have alot of money at all and most of the dentist's need paying or if they are NHS you dont get a chance to see them. Please help anyone, I cant keep seeing my husband in pain.
Avatar f tn This past two weeks I decided to start eating on that side that I had to implant done and now there is a bump above the gum line and it's obviously sore and tender to push. Not that I want to push on it. I rinsed with Chlorohexidine this morning and I am hoping that will help. I should also add the fact that I smoke. But the doctor told me I had to quit during the surgery and to allow for the bone to take. I thought since this implant was done a while ago I would be able to smoke again.
Avatar f tn Having no idea what was wrong I went to the doctors and was put on amoxcillin (they weren't sure what was wrong as the abscess isn't visible, it is really high up under my lip and quite large). Some of my swelling has gone down since and the pain has completely stopped, although obviously the abscess still causes discomfort because of the pressure, does this mean my front tooth has died? It has changed in colour, it's now slightly greyish.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have had a bump on my gum below a previously root canaled tooth for over two months now with no pain. It has drained a couple of times, but not in the last few weeks. In the last few weeks, I had to have my crown recemented because it fell off.
Avatar m tn After the crown was put on, a few weeks later after the crown was fitted on the tooth an abscess occured of in the gum above the chipped tooth causing alot of pain in that tooth. I saw a GP I was admitted to a dental hospital. They added a root canal, said the nerves are dead in that tooth (a scan was shown), and then drained my abscess. I went to the dental hospital every 2 weeks for 2 months, draining my tooth. The abscess started to dissapear and pain was not present anymore.
635268 tn?1222719503 The tooth had turned black and when i ate something hard once it just fell out like that. A couple of months later I think i formed an abscess because i had some swelling above the missing tooth and I started pressing on it and it hurt.. Next for some odd reason i decided to stick the tip of my tounge where my tooth is missing and I felt the worst pain in the world. The pain shot up from my mouth to my head, my eyes started to tear and my entire body went numb.
Avatar m tn This was extremely painful for a few days, the gum went white underneath and there was a lot of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in the tooth. I think this was due to long term problems I have with TMJ but cleared up after a few days. I returned to dentist for crown prep and explained the situation. She prepped the tooth for the crown and said that due to this problem with the temp filling and the fact that the hole went close to the root cavity I may need RCT.
Avatar n tn Dear Friend, I have written a short story which I send to everyone who is looking for help with basic dental problems. Several paragraphs concern the source of dental problems, the rest details natural remedies for relief. I have had a number of experiences, from basic cavities, fillings, to replacement of metal fillings with epoxy, root canals, infections, extractions, and now contemplating implants.
Avatar n tn last week i developed an abcsess in my tooth. my cheek became very swollen. the doctor said the infection from the abscess had passed from my tooth into my cheek. they put me on keeflex. within 24 hours about 60% of the swelling in my cheek had subsided. i am now on day 6 of a 10 days worth of the keeflex.
Avatar m tn Yes, I would definitely advise you to get it checked out because you don't want any complications from the broken teeth during your pregnancy such as an abscess. I wouldn't necessarily recommend removing the teeth immediately but a checkup and cleaning would be a good idea prior to delivery. Afterwards, I would recommend removing your bottom teeth to prevent any abscesses or future problems.
1644117 tn?1300978433 this kitty really needs to see a Vet, it sounds painful. it can be caused from an allergy, an injury or yes abscess. the reddness along the gum line is gingivitis and this needs to be cleared up or can lead to health problems like heart disease and loss of teeth. please get a Vet to look at this.....
Avatar n tn Since I had the crown I have sometimes had a little aching in the tooth the day after I have bitten on something hard, but other than this no real problems. A couple of weeks ago the gum around the tooth became sore and this week a small (about 2-3mm in diameter) abscess formed. This abscess then burst but another formed (and then also burst). Today I went to my dentist who told me there was an infection between two roots of the tooth and cleaned out the gum and treated it with medication.
Avatar m tn Just discovered I have both of these a couple months ago after noticing a lump in my gum. The cyst has been eating away at my jaw and has perforated it, I've had no pain, but will be getting surgery soon. My question is what are the chances of the tooth infection contributing to my chronic fatigue? I have found a few only posts stating, infections can make you feel lousy, fatigued etc. But no real solid information or testimonials.
Avatar n tn A few days later I had developed a periodontal (gum) abscess below my rear right molar - the tooth in front of the questionable wisdom tooth. - my dentist drained the abscess (yes, sorry... gross) and put me on antibiotics. (Diagnosis was a periodontal pocket which has since healed quickly.) - this cleared things up (severe, life altering head throbbing pain is gone thank god) and things were back to normal. - that was a week ago.
Avatar m tn If it turns out that it is a tooth responsible for the abscess, it needs to be taken out as as the abscess is completely gone. Don't wait or the abscess could come back worse.
Avatar n tn The root canal shouldn't have much to do with your gums. Did you have an abscess or severe swelling initially?
Avatar n tn About a week ago I started getting a toothache in my 2nd molar, upper right side. This particular tooth has had some problems (bad cavity, which was filled). Anyway, I went to the dentist and he said there was another cavity and he would fill it in a couple of weeks but there was a possibility it wouldn't work and the tooth would have to be extracted or i would need RCT.
