Avatar m tn Would a gum abscess cause shooting pain from gum area across cheek to eye, and down neck?
1881960 tn?1320703566 My doctor gave me penicillin and something for pain but its day 3 and nothing has changed. I can feel the abscess in my mouth for the first time today. It's not getting smaller, only larger! I am 29 and on coumadin and lovenox so no dentist will see me. I've called dozens of dentists to no avail. I am trying not to become frustrated but each passing day I'm stuck in bed isn't helping. Any suggestions ?
Avatar f tn Ive been having pain on and off for several weeks in my lower left jaw area. Its originating in a crown that Ive had for more than 10 years and now its causing me earache and tender/swollen glands under my left jaw. Im in agony and Im popping pills like mad! This only numbs the pain slightly and wears off quite quickly. Ive also got a swollen left side of my face and a lump on my gum.

Avatar f tn I've put it on a white tissue and it doesn't leave any stains or anything on the tissue. Is this my gum? scar tissue? drainage from the abscess? Its hard for me to see the spot, but from what I can see and feel it doesn't seem like I'm missing a chunk of my gums.
Avatar n tn yesterday i had two teeth pulled due to a gum abscess. I was'n t comfortable about this. I thought if there was infection in your mouth you should'nt have teeth pulled, anyway I have a swollen chec. I am taking medication two different kinds. Three times a day. Is this normal after having teeth pulled.
Avatar n tn He then did a percussion test, tapping firmly on all surfaces of the tooth, and I had no pain. So he recommended using Peroxyl to help the gum heal, and just watching to see if the tooth got worse. Well, the gum healed and the foul taste disappeared. No more throbbing. But the sensitivity to hot and cold has steadily worsened. Now hot or cold food or fluids causes a fair amount of discomfort.
Avatar n tn I have recently developed a dental abscess on the lower left side of my gum. It is located below the screw they placed during surgery. I went to my local dentist and he told me to contact my Maxillofacial Surgery and prescribed 500 mg of Amoxicillin because it may be related to the screw. I have no pain at all in my tooth only the discomfort of having a swollen gum and what feels like like a hard bump a little above the abscess.
Avatar f tn Antibiotics aren't going to clear it you need to go to a dentist or ER and let them finish what they started.. Would you rather be in pain forever or overcome your fear and be happy and out of pain. Its a logical answer.
Avatar n tn If it can manage to break through the jaw bone and exit out of the gum, then the person can live with an abscess for years because the pus buildup in the jaw will leak out of the "gum boil," thus reducing the buildup of bacteria. 3) Which brings us to this question. If it doesn't escape through the jaw and into the mouth through the gums, it can also spread through the fascial planes of the head. These are spaces where muscles and tissues connect.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a tooth out next to my front tooth about 6 years ago and it got an abscess after the gum healed and closed about 6 months later. I have a wound outside the gum and I feel the abscess when I press under my nose. I have been to a surgeon and the xray showed a dark spot, but when they cut the gum I felt it all and cried and cried. Due to having high blood pressure they didn't numb the area well at all, so I made them stop.
Avatar n tn I went to the emergency room finally and received another antibiotic and mild pain reliever. My pain went on for 9 days. ER doctor did not seem concerned enough to do blood work. I was swollen on jaw, under chin, glands under tongue were swollen up to meet back of tongue. I couldn't speak, eat and my throat was so sore I couldn't swallow. I know your post is older so I hope you found relief.
Avatar n tn I felt I was conned by dentist into doing my root canal, cause I had no pain before he poked on my tooth and I felt pain (don't know how he poke, or maybe he was digging into my gum line or something), but he concluded that I needed root canal. Now, I am experiencing blooding at the root canaled tooth.
Avatar f tn I have never had a tooth abscess until now. I called my dentist and they are trying to help me to keep cost down bc I have no insurance and xmas is right around corner so money is tight. I have a back molar that broke about 3 months ago ive been trying to save up for root canal but now I think I will need it pulled. The tooth stopped hurting and then I got the pus pocket under it that would flare up but then go down.
Avatar f tn Otherwise, the only other possibility I can think of is referred pain in which the pain is coming from one particular area that feels like its coming from somewhere else
Avatar n tn I still need 2 crowns upper right, and one crown lower right with a few more cavities filled. My dentist says there is no signs of dental abscess, but I have been having a lot of bad symptoms that seem to be getting worse. I feel really ill all the time. All my teeth hurt, It comes, and goes for what seems like no reason at all. My face feels tight, and puffy sometimes. My eyes burn. I get headaches, and sensitivity to light.

529224 tn?1400651819 Getting one or two small boils ( of about 2 mm diameter) from time to time (three times in the last 6 months) on the front-side of the lower gum (i.e., behind the lower lip). There is no pain as such but the boil seems to contain 'pus'. Previously I treated those with saline water gurgle and those disappeared in 2-3 days. Is it anything serious? Do you suggest any medicine/treatement? - Sarit.
Avatar m tn For the last three days I have some swelling on my gums directly below the root canal. Both swelling and pain are slightly worse every day. I have an appointment to see my dentist in two days, but am not sure if I should attempt to seem her tommorow. When I floss, the floss can slide under the crown and get stuck, so I believe there is a chance a piece of food got stuck and could be causing the swelling. Thanks again!
Avatar m tn Crooked teeth can lead to periodontal disease and premature wear of your enamel. Tooth decay and abscess formation may cause pain in the gums. It is best to get examined and initiate treatment as soon as possible. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar m tn Hi, Around 4 weeks ago I had a dental abscess which lasted around 7 days. I went to the doctor and they prescribed me antibiotics (flagyl and amoxycillin duo forte), when it was clearing up I had a feeling in my gum/mouth of like a cavity, i can't really describe the feeling... felt like it was swollen, like something was there... but that went away.
Avatar n tn First I would like to know if they are going to do another root canal or if they're going to perform surgery through my gum to remove this ball of infection? And can only an Endodonitcs fix this problem or can a oral surgeon do this as well? If they go through my gum this would be surgry right? I would like this procdure to be covered under my medical insurance not soak up my dental, so there for I would like to understand what is going to happen with this.
4279185 tn?1352125277 Root canal failed and i developed an abscess on gum. Dentist at the time said best to leave it. Several years passed, new dentist decided to redo the root canal and perform an apiectomy. One day after stitches came out the familiar pimple was back. Since then i have lived with this infection, every so often i have to forcibly drain it to reduce the swelling and pain.
Avatar f tn Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar f tn I have an abscess in a broken tooth on the upper right side, 2nd tooth from the back. I feel a lump on the upper portion of the gum line, near where the jaw connects. My cheek is swollen and I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I am afraid that it has spread into my cheek cavity. How serious is this? What is the worst thing that can happen if I am unable to go to a dentist? I don't have any insurance. Should I go to the emergency room?
