abscess

Avatar n tn Hi Sevina, from what i have heard, a gum abscess is an infection and the puss coming out is evidence. You really should see your dentist about this and get some antibiotics to clear it up.
Avatar m tn Would a gum abscess cause shooting pain from gum area across cheek to eye, and down neck?
1881960 tn?1320703566 My doctor gave me penicillin and something for pain but its day 3 and nothing has changed. I can feel the abscess in my mouth for the first time today. It's not getting smaller, only larger! I am 29 and on coumadin and lovenox so no dentist will see me. I've called dozens of dentists to no avail. I am trying not to become frustrated but each passing day I'm stuck in bed isn't helping. Any suggestions ?
Avatar f tn This only numbs the pain slightly and wears off quite quickly. Ive also got a swollen left side of my face and a lump on my gum. I know I need to see a dentist and probably get antibiotics but the problem is its christmas day and I wont be able to seek help for several days - possibly a week or more and I cant cope with this pain. Any advice on what I can do at home in the meantime to make it bearable?

Avatar f tn I've put it on a white tissue and it doesn't leave any stains or anything on the tissue. Is this my gum? scar tissue? drainage from the abscess? Its hard for me to see the spot, but from what I can see and feel it doesn't seem like I'm missing a chunk of my gums.
Avatar m tn After the crown was put on, a few weeks later after the crown was fitted on the tooth an abscess occured of in the gum above the chipped tooth causing alot of pain in that tooth. I saw a GP I was admitted to a dental hospital. They added a root canal, said the nerves are dead in that tooth (a scan was shown), and then drained my abscess. I went to the dental hospital every 2 weeks for 2 months, draining my tooth. The abscess started to dissapear and pain was not present anymore.
Avatar n tn Others where the patient came back with an abscess and swelling due to the infection spreading rapidly. I, and I don't think any dentist, can accurately predict your particular situation over the internet. If the odds are greater than 50/50 of needing a root canal soon, I would get the root canal done.
Avatar n tn yesterday i had two teeth pulled due to a gum abscess. I was'n t comfortable about this. I thought if there was infection in your mouth you should'nt have teeth pulled, anyway I have a swollen chec. I am taking medication two different kinds. Three times a day. Is this normal after having teeth pulled.
Avatar m tn What about a gum abscess that is being treated with antibiotics? My boyfriend has a gum abscess and he has been prescribed penicillin and topical antibiotics. He says it is getting better, but for some reason his cheek on the other side of his mouth got swollen (maybe unrelated from biting it) and he says the area of the abscess is still a little irritated even after being on antibiotics today.
Avatar n tn I've had an abscess on my gum area that started in my tooth for about a week. I've been on antibiotics (clindamycin 150 MG) for 5 days with painkillers. I've been swollen the entire time and have knot on my jaw. The dentist wont lance it because it hasn't come to a head yet. So, do I go to urgent care, or wait it out to see if it will ever come to a head? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Thermal sensitivity and discomfortable biting are probably associated with occlusal interference. Occlusal adjustment can generally eliminate the symptoms. Gum abscess may result from periodontal or periapical infection. Seeing a periodontist to evaluate periodontal condition is advised.
Avatar n tn I went to see the dentist this past Saturday. I have a tooh abscess - with swelling in the cheek area. My dentist started me on antibiotics. My question is, how long will it take for the swelling to go down? It's been approximately 48 hours and it still feels about the same size. What would happen if it were to burst? At what point would I need to go to the ER.
Avatar f tn I have abscess on gum and another painful toothful but im 32 weeks and scared to go to dentist should i?
Avatar f tn Dental cavities if left untreated can lead to serious complications like dental abscess or spread of infection to surrounding structures. For more queries and concerns visit your dentist and get evaluated. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar f tn Also, not taking care of an abscess tooth and the infection going into your blood stream in severe cases can cause death.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had a tooth out next to my front tooth about 6 years ago and it got an abscess after the gum healed and closed about 6 months later. I have a wound outside the gum and I feel the abscess when I press under my nose. I have been to a surgeon and the xray showed a dark spot, but when they cut the gum I felt it all and cried and cried. Due to having high blood pressure they didn't numb the area well at all, so I made them stop.
Avatar n tn I Had to have two teeth pullled due to an abscess on my gum. I thought that you could not pull teeth while you had and infection in your mouth. Is this true or not. Also if you have teeth pulled does this clear up the infection. Even though you have to take medication for a week to ten days.
Avatar n tn If it can manage to break through the jaw bone and exit out of the gum, then the person can live with an abscess for years because the pus buildup in the jaw will leak out of the "gum boil," thus reducing the buildup of bacteria. 3) Which brings us to this question. If it doesn't escape through the jaw and into the mouth through the gums, it can also spread through the fascial planes of the head. These are spaces where muscles and tissues connect.
Avatar m tn Can abscesses just stay localized? I'm afraid the infection will spread and become life-threatening; although neither abscess had become systemic....
Avatar n tn I'v just noticed a big abscess above my tooth, i already know i need root canal treatment for the tooth but my dentist can't take me for another week. Is it safe to wait that long without anti-biotics or treatment?
Avatar n tn I still need 2 crowns upper right, and one crown lower right with a few more cavities filled. My dentist says there is no signs of dental abscess, but I have been having a lot of bad symptoms that seem to be getting worse. I feel really ill all the time. All my teeth hurt, It comes, and goes for what seems like no reason at all. My face feels tight, and puffy sometimes. My eyes burn. I get headaches, and sensitivity to light.
Avatar f tn That's why I felt the #14 crown prep exacerbated the #18 and #19 infection. But, the gum itself did not swell anymore than it already is. Given what I've told you so far, do you have an opinion about an apicoectomy for #18 and 19? I've spent almost $5000 just on these two teeth and hate the idea of extracting them and spending another $3 to $6K for implants. I have several other dental priorities and just can't afford to invest anymore on a losing proposition.

Avatar f tn You may have gum disease (gingivitis) and the only thing that help will be to go to a dentist. They may do scaling, depending on what stage your gum infection is. Scaling helps a lot in the earlier stages. Results are pretty quick. See a dentist about your toothaches, your teeth may need to be removed, filled, etc., See a dentist before you get an abscess, which could cause earaches, headaches, toothache, and a bunch of other issues.
Avatar m tn Canker sore symptoms begin with a tingling sensation, followed by a red bump that becomes an ulcer. An abscess can cause swollen painful red lump which may drain pus.Thrush a fungal infection of the mouth causes white patches on tongue and inside of cheeks. It is best to get it checked by a PCP.He may refer you if needed. I hope it helps. Take care and regards!
Avatar f tn The tooth had apparently died long ago and caused an infection. It developed a sinus channel through the gum and finally drained on its own. Had I not had a crown on the tooth, I would have known something was badly wrong almost immediately. All I needed was a root canal and to have the crown reglued and that was the end of that little episode. No anesthesia needed for the root canal either since the nerve was long gone.
Avatar n tn Today I went to my dentist who told me there was an infection between two roots of the tooth and cleaned out the gum and treated it with medication. She also told me that if this treatment did not work then the tooth would have to be extracted. Could you advise me if extraction would really be the only option as it seems a very drastic step. Also the dentist did not take an x-ray so I wondering how she can be sure that this is the problem. Thank you.
4279185 tn?1352125277 Root canal failed and i developed an abscess on gum. Dentist at the time said best to leave it. Several years passed, new dentist decided to redo the root canal and perform an apiectomy. One day after stitches came out the familiar pimple was back. Since then i have lived with this infection, every so often i have to forcibly drain it to reduce the swelling and pain.
