Abscess gum relief

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess gum relief

Avatar m tn Would a gum abscess cause shooting pain from gum area across cheek to eye, and down neck?
Avatar f tn This only numbs the pain slightly and wears off quite quickly. Ive also got a swollen left side of my face and a lump on my gum. I know I need to see a dentist and probably get antibiotics but the problem is its christmas day and I wont be able to seek help for several days - possibly a week or more and I cant cope with this pain. Any advice on what I can do at home in the meantime to make it bearable?
Avatar n tn I went to see the dentist this past Saturday. I have a tooh abscess - with swelling in the cheek area. My dentist started me on antibiotics. My question is, how long will it take for the swelling to go down? It's been approximately 48 hours and it still feels about the same size. What would happen if it were to burst? At what point would I need to go to the ER.
Avatar f tn The dentist broke one off below the gum line and the other he crushed and broke in half, he did not get either of them out. I have been terrified of mouth work since childhood. He told me he would not work on me again unless I took Valium first. He said He needs to cut open the gum and drill into my jaw bone to remove the teeth. I did not go back and that was a year ago. Now the half tooth is abscessed. My face is so swollen its causing pressure in my eye ear and nose.
Avatar n tn I lost part of a filling on Tuesday and contacted the dentist, but they cannot see me for two weeks. Over the past two days, my cheek has swollen and my gum above the tooth is the size of a ping pong. I have amoxicillin at home so I bagan taking that and rinsing with salt water per stuff i read on the web, but the swelling has not gone down and i can't get a hold of my dentist until monday. Should I go to the emergency room or would they tell me the same thing?
Avatar f tn My husband is 33yrs old, doesn't have a dentist and his teeth are black, rotten and missing after many years of boxing with out a gum shild. He keeps on getting abscess and has told me he would like toget all is teeth taken out (what is left of them) but we dont know how to go about it? We dont have alot of money at all and most of the dentist's need paying or if they are NHS you dont get a chance to see them. Please help anyone, I cant keep seeing my husband in pain.
Avatar m tn I have had a smallish (maybe 2 cm in diameter) skin abscess or infected cyst on my back next to my cervical spine for the last 2 weeks which doesn't seem to be getting bigger or coming to a head (I tried squeezing it thinking it was a pimple at first.) When I touch it, it feels soft/puffy as though there's some fluid under it (same as a gum boil) and it's no longer hot/painful, just itchy sometimes.
Avatar n tn My tooth that has the abcsess is broken down to the gum, if that could be why. What would i need to get done to fix this and does anyone know about the price it would cost with no insurence? Also do dentists office's set up payment plans?
Avatar f tn terrible pain that doesn't go away in mouth/jaw/gum. the pain doesnt even go away with a combination of Advil/Tylenol... My gum is also swollen throughout the entire lower quadrant of my mouth.. It is sore to the touch.. I have a bridge there (three teeth) that was placed about 5 years ago... It is FRIDAY & my dentist does not work today. I assume I have some type of abscess or infection..
Avatar f tn I did see my dentist as you suggested. What a relief!! There was no abscess and no need for a root canal, thank God! It is an exostosis. I asked the dentist why it would get larger so suddenly. He said that too much stress and/or grinding your teeth can cause it to start growing larger. We've made plans to get me a night guard. Oh, yes, he also said that these things can "wax and wane". Strange, huh?!
Avatar f tn I have been on this since Monday afternoon -- it is now Wed. morning. I feel absolutely no relief. I have been taking 400mg's of Advil every 4 hours, on my dentists recommendation.. Still, it throbs constantly. Is it normal for me to still be in pain? Should I be concerned? What can I do for the pain, as my dentist seems unwilling to prescribe pain medication.
Avatar m tn Just discovered I have both of these a couple months ago after noticing a lump in my gum. The cyst has been eating away at my jaw and has perforated it, I've had no pain, but will be getting surgery soon. My question is what are the chances of the tooth infection contributing to my chronic fatigue? I have found a few only posts stating, infections can make you feel lousy, fatigued etc. But no real solid information or testimonials.
Avatar n tn The dentist obviously feels that it is not ready to be lanced just yet. An abscess needs to be ready to be lanced, if it is lanced too soon, no rubbish will come out, but it will be open for more bacteria to enter into the opened cut. At home, make a solution of salty water and use that to rinse your mouth with and then spit it out. Do this a few times a day. Take pain relief as recommended for the pain. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn Two days into taking it I began to have excrutiating tooth and gum pain. I went to a dentist to have it pulled but she said I needed to take an antibiotic to get rid of the infection first. She prescribed a z-pack along with percocet and ibuprofin. She said the antibiotic would work to take down the swelling and thus the pain within 24 hours but that is not the case.
Avatar m tn At the same time, I noticed the gum around my top left wisdom tooth started to swell. It hurt a bit, but not much. It kept swelling and I felt a bad taste coming from there, so on Wednesday I go see a dentist. I arrive at the office, get an x-ray, dentist looks at my tooth and says I have an abscess and it seemed to have been there for quite some time already. She proceeds do drain it, sends me home on antibiotics and ibuprofen, and tells me to come back on Friday to extract the tooth.
Avatar f tn The following day the pain increases and the swollen spreads gradually through my right cheek and one side of my jaw, I do take pain relief (Tylenol and Advil) the pains will relief me for few hours and begin to ache my agaiin, I have used lots of mouth wash and warm wAter but still remain the same, am in serious pain right now please help me wit what I can buy to use. One more thing I just relocated like one month ago.
Avatar f tn If I didn't know better, I would think there was a sliver of bone growing out of my tooth root and digging into my gum. Ambesol gives me some relief, as does pulling my lip away from the gum so that there is nothing touching it. I'm -really- hoping this isn't some weird absess as it would probably take me about 2 months to get to see a dentist where I live. Anyone have any idea what this is?
86664 tn?1291561395 Hi I have large extremely painful abscess causing severe pain and swelling in gum, jawbone and neck. This is from a tooth diagnosed with internal root asorption. I've been taking anitbiotics for 5 days with no relief. I'm scheduled to see new specialist in 5 days, the first available appointment so I'm officially under nobody's care. Is this a dangerous situation and do I need to do something ASAP instead of waiting for my appointment?

Avatar f tn I have been suffering with some gum inflamation and irritation for about a week now and had some dental work done because of this. My gums no longer hurt but I do have some pain in my sinus area (right cheek). I went to the ER and although I have no visible abscess they think I may have an infection and prescribed me clindamycin (300mg, 4xday). My question is, since they are not sure if I have an infection or not, is taking this antibiotic worth the risk of getting C Diff?
Avatar n tn My mller # 14 has been hurting me 4 the past yer& half.. I went 2 the drntist he said root canal when I went 2 the enodontic she said no root canal I went 2 several dentist's and enodontis $ 5000 later one dentist said u may have a cracked tooth so the best way 2 go is 2 case after the crack fix it & put a crown... So I did that procedure he was happy as he felt he did not have 2 drill 2 deep & he caught the crack ...3mts later it hurt again went back & forth...
Avatar f tn If it is your adult tooth, it will fall out because being lose means that you have gum disease. With gum disease the tooth is likely to fall out so there is no point in having anything done to the tooth. To help strengthen your gums, brush your teeth in the morning and before going to bed and also floss in between the teeth and down to the gums every day.
Avatar f tn There is a small area behind my upper front tooth that is very swollen and hurts a lot. I already had an abscess and a tooth pulled because of infection and I don't want to go through that again. He says I should wait but I don't want to loose my teeth either. I read that hydrogen peroxide helps with possible infection and sore gums. Is it safe to use as mouthwash during pregnancy?
Avatar f tn had a huge lump on my gum when i pulled back my lip to see it ,, pus began to ooze out....i felt relief for the first time in days...then went to the dentist & got it lanced & he began to drill a hole in my tooth but it was so painful that i am to go back in a week to finish drilling the hole after i have taken the antibiotics he gave me...he said it should not be so painful then.....that is my update!!!! hope this may help someone in the future!!!!
480448 tn?1426952138 just over the weekend yet another tooth BROKE OFF below the gum line and is abscessed now. my gum is hugely swollen, red and sore as hell, it feels liek a tennis ball is under my tongue (its bottom molar and the swelling is bulging towards my tongue instead of the other side of my gum towards the cheek skin) so my tongue keeps trying to push against this mass and im about ready to shoot myself. im scared to death what this means for me.
Avatar f tn I know that making the gum bleed sounds intense but I guarantee you'll feel instant relief after you get the gum to bleed and peroxide it. In lieu of this fix, you may still want to contact your dentist because if you don't have a fine piece of something caught in your tooths gumline, you may need a root canal. Best wishes!!
Avatar f tn I sleep sitting up in a chair a lot because if I lay the lease bit wrong, the gum on a tooth on my right side will swell up and start hurting within seconds. Even sitting wrong with my head not completely straight with the rest of my body or how I have my right arm positioned can cause this tooth to pound; stay swollen and hurt for days. I don’t know how much longer I can take it.
Avatar n tn Nicorette really helped me quit Copenhagen…but now I’m obviously addicted to the gum…The gum is obviously better than Copenhagen for many reasons..however..I can tell you that my blood pressure has risen, and I have a low white blood cell count because of the gum. I get sick all the time due to this. If I over chew it I’ll get a sore throat and eventually a sinus infection. My doctor always asked me ..”do you smoke?” I tell him no…he doesn’t know I use any tobacco products.
Avatar n tn I have had an awful time with my teeth over that last 6 months and had to have seven extracted. Each one has provided so much relief but this last one (my bottom left 2nd premolar) just will not stop hurting. It was extracted due to failed root canal treatment and came out with an abscess attached to the side of the root. It was extracted on 2nd March and still it hurts me too. The gum itself looks fine and is shrinking nicely but i cannot bare to even touch it.
Avatar n tn I'm 34 weeks preg and I have an abscess where my filling feel out and m gum got infected around it. I've been o penicillin for 2 day my face is still swollin but I have no pain.im so scared somthing will happen to my baby :(.
