Common Questions and Answers about Why is my tongue sore and red

sore

Why is my tongue so sore? I have dry mouth from taking prescriptions and my tongue over a period of time has become very sore and sensitive to salt or pepper or spicy food.
I had a bad sore throat over a week ago that turned into a sinus infection and was given a prescription for the Z-pack antibiotics. The day after my last dose I noticed my tongue was orange. I went to the pharmacist and she said it could be a form of a yeast infection and to try yogurt, but to call the doctor. Since it was the weekend, I started with the yogurt. I got the large plaint yogurt and ate it all within 2 days and my tongue was better, however, it is still with me.
On Thursday September 24 I had mouth to genital contact with a woman for less than two minutes. The next day, 9/25 my throat was a little sore. Two days later, 9/26 my tongue was coated white/yellow and the sides of my tonue seemed to be curved and red. I was a little tired and achey but also out walking in the rain. 9/27 my throat is no longer sore. Tongue coloring is still off but not painful. Top and tip of my tongue is tingling a little still colored.

whether we keep our tongue positioned on the roof of our mouth or if we keep it pressed down on our mouth. The only reason why I noticed is because it feels really uncomfortable and stressed. It does not relax whether I keep it up or down. Aside from that annoyance, my throat is beginning to feel sore above my Adam's apple, my jaw sores as well. The jaw aches give me a headache. It feels like I am swallowing too often, and the root to all of these problems seems to be my tongue.
i have burning inside my mouth and cancor sores underneath my tongue. even chewing gum burns my mouth and i can't use toothpaste. i use peroxide to brush my teeth because i have sores that come and go on the right side of my mouth to the gums and underneath and along side my tongue on the right side. i had a dentist tell me this was more than likely a vitamin deficiency of some sort but after all this time i tend to think it is possibly an acid surplus.

I thought that is was related to a food allergy but I am not so sure at this point, mine only happens on the left side of my tongue. One dr. did comment on the whiteness surrounding the red patches, so perhaps my red spots do start with the white dry color as well and have not noticed that as part of the process. One thing that strikes me is that I have been taking a drug that is designed for epilepsy but I take it for anxiety. Perhaps this may be a drug reaction?
Lately it hasn't and I have added Folic Acid which improved my tongue immediately (50mg) per day for some weeks. NOw the sore red tongue is back and after reading the above comments decided to try coconut oil to see if it is indeed some type of fungus. Immediate result. Tongue this morning is normal colour with no soreness. Will keep posted on results.
//www.boingboing.net/2008/06/10/what-is-on-keiths-to.html. I looked into it and I think they're called fimbriae or something like that. Not everyone has them but it's never been a problem before. Four days ago I noticed for the first time that they were inflamed, red, and slightly sore (made worse by touch). Then three days ago they started causing me a much larger amount of pain made worse by moving my tongue at all and all foods and liquids except cold water.
I still have red bumps on the back wall of my throat but there seems to also be small red bumps on my tonsils and sides of the back of my tongue (though I'm not sure if these are just the normal papillae). Any idea what the heck is going on?!
Is it likely than if I had a herpes outbreak on my tongue that I will get outbreaks on my tongue throughout my life?
I started getting sores on my tongue after i get a cold sore, which I have always had, about 5 months ago and these sores on my tongue have been constant since than. The start as a small dot that develops a white ring and the white ring spreads outward and the sore gets bigger with a shallow red sore inside it. They start and take about 10-15 days to heal and typically occur in same areas, back of tongue and tip of tongue. My tongue also feels hot and burns.

I have just noticed few small red bumps on the back of my tongue and concerned about STD. I recently got a pcr dna test for HIV and that came back negative but the test was about 3 weeks after exposure. I dont think i have HIV but if the test results were false negative is it positive develop oral thrush about 2 months after the exposure and does the bump sound like thrush? everything looks ok on the inside of the mouth. or can this be someother STD?. hep or syphilis? thanks in advance.
Hi, I have just had 2 wisdom teeth removed 4 days ago. One of them had been infected requiring 2 courses of antibiotics and I'm on my third course now after the extraction. My concern now is with my tongue, today I noticed a red circle near the tip where the "buds" look slightly inflamed and a whitish ring around it. I was given some medicated mouthwash to use. It isn't painful I'm just concerned why it would suddenly appear.
I know I already have HSV 1 bc I have had cold sores. The sores on my tongue began when I had a cold sore and have never left. I have been under a long period of stress and I am thinking thats why I had such an extensive outbreak. My question is, since I had this will I continue to have these outbreaks on my tongue for the rest of my life?
To give you a little background I am a 25 yr old guy and since about last november I have had something my dentist calls geographic tongue which is where the taste buds go away and it has a little white line around it usually on the edges of my tongue and I just thought it was strange that out of the blue all of a sudden this appeared.

I'll anesthetize her again if need be, but I do kind of worry about the complications. Her overall tongue is more red in this photo so the spot is less noticeable right now. Usually it's bright red as are the other spots. Any opinions? Thanks much.
i had my tongue pierced twice and when i took it out the first time, i didnt get a scar or a bump. I did chew on it when i had a funny shaped object in it, but no teeth breaking. I had it redone a few years later. my friend gave it to me for my birthday, i didnt want a tatoo so i got it done again. After the initial pain of the piercing, it was fine. i didnt even have a lisp when i spoke english. when i spoke spanish it was another story, I sounded like an idiot.

This is because although the antibiotics kill off the bad bacteria, the changes in the flora of our bodies changes to the perfect environment for the thrush. In fact my thrush in my mouth was really bad, my tongue was coated, felt dry and was being irrated by my new cap. I initially though it was to do with the fact that I had a dental procedure that lasted for 2 hours and had to get used to the new cap.
Now, on to my question about this virus. My sores are now on the front side of my tongue. It's 2 and it's white with red surrounding it. It began as a pimple like sore to this in about 3 days. I looked up information and it said it can't appear on mouth, then switching to it can but it's rare; only on the roof of the mouth or on gums, to it only does the first time. My question is does it appear on the tongue? If so what does it look like?
Hi, I've felt ill for months now. I'm a 39 y.o. female with no previous health concerns. I've had swollen lymph nodes, chronic sore throat with some dark red & white looking patches near my tonsils,(the white stuff, or patch dosen't scrape off- I've tried), small, sore, red bumps in the same area. Tonsils look like they may have pus pockets or something. Tongue feels sore sometimes. I've had numerous colds, or what I think it was, in the last few months.
Hello, Not too long ago i noticed small red bumps along the sides of my tongue with some cuts, they don't hurt though, but I'm really bothered and worried about it. What could they be? I have braces put on five months ago, but i don't think it has anything to do with that. I never really looked at my tongue until recently, so I don't know if this is normal or not. Could this a symptom of HIV?? Help!
Though, 17 days later, I happened to look at my tongue and noticed there were three red circles/sores on the tip of my tongue...but one was more to the side of the tongue but still on the edge. They turned red and circular but went away in 4 days. Just yesterday, I noticed a red circular formation starting to appear again on the tip of my tongue and today, it has a very tiny white puss looking bump on the edge of the center of the red circle.
I used to always scrape my tongue when brushing my teeth but I can't do that anymore because it irritates the tiny little red bumps on my tongue. Sometimes my tongue is so sore, it hurts to drink water! Thank you for writing back :) I'm going to ask my new doctor about a prescription for diflucan.
Lately, for the past few months I been getting sores on my inner cheeks sides of tongue. The sores on the cheek are painless (until I start picking at it with my tongue or fingers), red with a skin like top. The white top goes away after brushing. The sore goes away completely in just a few days with no treatment. I just had one the ohter day and it was completely gone in 2 days. The latest sore came after I had a few beers (i am an alcoholic).
