1209036 tn?1299178657 A blood sample will be taken from a vein in your arm about 60 minutes after drinking the solution. The blood test measures how the glucose solution was metabolized (processed by the body). A blood glucose of 140mg/dL will identify 80% of women with gestational diabetes. When that cutoff is lowered to 130mg/dL the yield increases to 90%.
Avatar m tn m not strict on my diet, just watch what I eat and make adjustments when my blood work starts to rise. Keep up the good work.
Cat bkfst. and dinner), the fasting sugar is low (115 to 118). Why is this? I am not on meds; just controlling with diet and exercise. I walk 4-5 miles per day on treadmill after dinner.
Avatar f tn Hello Doctor Cheng, Thank you for your kind and concerned response about my dog Rockey. I have had the Xray and the urin and the blood and the culture and sensitivity test ran and we still do not know what is exactly going on with him. His BUN at 38 and cretinine at 2.1 and LY at 10.8 but nothing else out of norm range. Culture and sensitivity test was neg for any type of growth or infection. He had been off of the antibotics for at least a week, and was bleeding a lot.
Avatar n tn Believe me - as a Type 1 I had the same questions about a Diabetic Diet and for the most part - Food Exchanges just confused me because they overly complicated something simple. Type 1 or Type 2 or Type 1.5 - we all have the same meal planning problem. Unfortunately - there is no "list" of safe foods. You have to make your own. BUT - it's not so hard. The trick is to look at Nutritional Labels on food products. 99% of everything has it.
956292 tn?1334054869 Maybe Sarah can explain why doctors still consider it a problem when the HDL is the one pushing the numbers over 200. I also find it very odd that we eat almost the same thing and my cholesterol is always on the low side, around 140. Someone was telling me recently that too low a number could cause a problem with myelin repair, as cholesterol is needed to repair myelin, Does anyone know much about this?
Avatar f tn Well thanks to all the support I got my blood work back and all my numbers are great. I went to Chicago in oct and since have had a big change in my diet and probably tak 30 to 50 suppliments a day but it has increase my antioxidant levels my CoQ10 levels vit d level and many others. Also my CA 125 went down to 1.9 which is close to my losest number. I am now a year out of chemo and running as fast as I can to stay healthy.
Avatar n tn First, you must realize that there is a huge difference in the treatment of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. For the type 2 diabetic, I also have read (from the Atkins people) that their diet is a good way to lower glucose levels. This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas.
Avatar n tn In fact, no alcohol intake at all for three weeks previous to the blood work done this year. Doc that did physical just said he didn't know and to follow up with a doctor. I blew it off last year since there's no symptoms and expected everyting to be fine this year. So are these anything to be concerned about? Would this mean there's actually permanent damage or just that it was irritated? I would just like to know what these results truly mean. Thanks for any info.
Avatar f tn This would involve evaluation of c-peptide, antibodies, and insulin levels correlated with blood sugar levels. Type 1 is lack of insulin (and needs injected insulin), Type 2 is plenty of insulin, but there is insulin resistance and the insulin is not effective. For Type 2, oral meds may be appropriate. If it is adult onset type 1, it may develop quickly. Therefore, I suggest your read up on syptoms of both type 1 and type 2 and if you develop symptoms then you must go to your Dr.
72351 tn?1281992542 I have a question about diet. I am a city bus driver. We do not have lunch breaks and must eat on the go, have to nibble throughout the day. That poses a problem when it comes to taking a test 2 hrs after eating as I am nibbling throughout day. Any helpful hints? Also, I am not having any troubles keeping my sugar down during the day. It has been anywhere from 93-110.
Avatar n tn I'll attempt to clarify some things for you to get an understanding what I'm saying. The "normal 90-110 mg/dl" is no longer considered normal in this day and age, that is, in western medicine here in the USA. Normal glucose range is 60-99 mg/dl. But when you fall below 70 doctors get worried about hypoglycemia. From 100 to 125 mg/dl it's considered prediabetes. At 126 mg/dl and above preprandial (fasting glucose) you would be considered Diabetic Type II.
Avatar n tn I take AM and PM Lantus. Just started on Actos 15mg. I've started reducing my simple carbohydrates a lot. Cereals, Breads, Potatoes, Rice, high carb. veggies. Substituting low carb veggies, low carb fruits, avocadoes. In 2 weeks I've reduced night time Lantus from 25U to 10 U and BS in AM 90- low 100's. Yesterday enjoyed burger with L&T,onion, mayo on lettuce with no bun.. Today I made unbreaded baked zucchini with tomato sauce and mozz. cheese. I'm also exercising more.
Avatar n tn Could it be that there is still an infection which is why the keytones are high? have keytones got anything to do with the liver or gall-bladder? is it ANYTHING to do with high sugar levels?
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, My husbandwas recently diagnosed with Type II diabetes. He currently has a blood sugar of 304 upon waking in the morning. He's on 30 mg daily of Actos. I'm trying to get him to eat the right things to lower his blood sugar, but he doesn't like much except starches, fruits, dairy and sweets. I won't let him dringe orange juice or eat candy, obviously, but it seems even when I'm really trying to modify his diet, it's still not good enough.
Avatar n tn my question is... what does the dr mean by "it's hormones." is this normal for 58 yr old female? what can be done to get bs down in a.m.??
Avatar f tn I guarantee it will help you drop the lbs! A study done at UCLA has proven reducing fat in your diet does not give the same results as if you take out the high fructose corn syrup.
Avatar m tn Too, we work in greyhound rescue, the local humane society, the New Guinea Singing Dog Conservation Society, American Dingo rescue, so, again, we're around rescue dogs, as well as our own 18 dogs every day. So I would think parasites would be a real possibility. Earlier in the spring, we boarded two dogs, Bud and Ellis, who had just been diagnosed with lung worms! While feeding them one day, leaning over to sit their bowls down, Bud jumped up and licked me right across my mouth! Argh!
Avatar m tn the general surgeon looked at it about 3-4 weeks ago and said i will need surgery so he set the date and everything but i hope i wont need it if aldara continues to work. the doc was going to remove them by cauterization.
Avatar f tn I went for my regular checkup recently and had blood work done and it came back that my chloride was a little low. My dr. did not say anything about it. I noticed on my paperwork after I got home. It was real low,but was a little. Does anyone know why your chloride levels would be low?
Avatar f tn Her urine came back fairly normal except for some WBCs. I will discuss additional blood work, BP and IV ringers with the vet Monday. He is very knowledgable and well respected but didn't seem to feel there is much that can be done. Acute external causes are unlikely where we live in Wisconsin, USA. She has had a few unexplained fever episodes throughout her life without joint swelling and was not diagnosed with Shar-pei fever. I'll keep you updated. Thanks so much for your help!
Avatar f tn how long does it take to "kick in"? Is it one of the 10+ days meds or does it have immediate effects? Just wondering b/c I'm not sure I'm taking this stuff right. I'm used to having freakouts and taking a benzo to stop it, but from what i've gathered, this is a long-term-steady blood level type of drug not a silver-bullet-pill.
