The symptoms you describe are not only withdrawal symptoms, they are also side effects of venlafaxine. There is a newer medication that is very similar to venlafaxine called Pristiq that you may tolerate better. Please make an appointment with your physician to discuss your treatment options.
It was very effective after some time but I remember that the side-effect for me of nausea and vertigo a short while after taking the tablet was horrific as it lasted up to an hour at a time. However, the positive was that it kept improving and it went all together after 3 weeks or so. If I had to go on an anti-depressant again I would chose it over some others with much worse side-effects for me, especially as it made me feel so much better in the long-run! I hope this helps.

I stopped taking Venlafaxine and Mirtazipine on Tuesday, almost a week ago. Because these drugs are not helping me and actually enhancing my ADD issues and i am trying to go through law school. I have suffered from the withdrawal effects of rapid bodily temperature change, adrenaline rushes affecting mood, sobbing at the end of the day, nausea, shaking, body aches, rapid mood changes, random anger outbursts, and random itching everywhere as if my whole body was on fire.

Has anyone experienced any long term effects since stopping the Effexor (Venlafaxine)? I had to go off this cold turkey last December (2010) because the doctor thought I was having an allergic reaction, after having a lump feeling when I swallowed. As of today (10/19/11) I am still having the same feeling. Been to a few ENT's & Gastro doc who all think it is acid related. This feeling in my throat started while I was on the Venlafaxine.
Some of them have tried other anti nausea meds and Zofran seems to work for most people. I have used it to manage nausea after chemo treatments. Zofran Why is this medication prescribed? Dear Marni, Just to reiterate, Venlafaxine (Effexor) is known to have possible adverse reactions stemming from its abrupt discontinuation or missed dose such as dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, nausea, and headaches, among other symptoms. It is not common, but can occur in some individuals. I hope you maintain your current medication compliance to avoid such symptoms.
Clonazepam and venlafaxine are both effective in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Venlafaxine may be started at a dose of 37.5 mg a day, to reduce the risk of nausea, but the standard therapeutic dose is 150-225 mg a day. There are studies suggesting that anxiety disorders are best treated with a combination of medications and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Please help. I have stopped taking 300mg of venlafaxine for 15 days today and I cannot take the pain or side effects.
I had recently had my son and had started to take Venlafaxine again after a break during pregnancy. I saw my doctor who said it was probably nothing to worry about, in fact I don't think he really believed me. This prompted me to collect some samples to show him the next week. I easily filled a little urine specimen vial with about 50 of these little balls (which considering each motion was laden throughout with them, was an extremely easy task!!
Another explanation might be that I was terribly tired/exhausted, with nausea. This AM at 0800 it was 118/60 - Much better! So I guess it is OK to continue with the Midodrine q6. Will continue to keep an eye because of the Venlafaxine which I added a 37.5mg at bedtime yesterday.
I have been taken the amitryptiline for about 2 months and the venlafaxine for a week. The venlafaxine has made me more alert but also more anxious .I have a burning and numb feeling in my throat and nausea. I do not know if this is the anxiety or acid reflux or a side effect of the venlafaxine or a combination of taking the tabs together. Has anybody else had this effect from taking the above tabs and if so for how long?
Yes Erin is right, i need to add that it was under my doctor's supervision that i took Diazepam at the beginning of my Venlafaxine treatment to combat my anxiety until the Venlafaxine started working. Sorry, i didn't mean it to sound so casual, it is easy to misinterpret tone when you're writing instead of speaking isn't it?
Dear Nate, Venlafaxine (Effexor) is known to have possible adverse reactions stemming from its abrupt discontinuation such as dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, nausea, and headaches, among other symptoms. Hello, I've been on Venlafaxine(Effexor) 75mg in the morning and also olanzipine 2.5mg at night. My doctors and I now feel I'm ready to come off these and be happy and health naturally. However I've tried coming off these before and I experienced weight loss, nausea, loss of appetite, insomnia and in general awful effects. Any suggestions as to how to get off these safely?
TRAMADOL (in Ultram) may interact with VENLAFAXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (in Effexor) Both venlafaxine and tramadol have an effect on serotonin, a chemical that is found in the brain. Excess levels of serotonin in the brain may cause serious or potentially life-threatening side effects. Early signs of this problem include increased confusion and restlessness. Other possible symptoms may include weakness, fever, nausea, and anxiety.
A study released in May 2010 by the Canadian Medical Association Journal suggests use of venlafaxine doubles the risk of miscarriage. Consequently, venlafaxine should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed. Prospective studies have not shown any statistically significant congenital malformations. There have, however, been some reports of self-limiting effects on newborn infants.
i felt like **** getting off of it. i felt nausea. and i said i would not ever go back on medication again. then 2 yrs passed and i was doing fine until now i'm on paxil and i hear that isn't habit forming but, then i hear it is. what fun!! but, for paxil i would go from you said 20mg then to 10 mg then to 5mg then stop.
As you probably know, there are relatively fewer problems with Remeron withdrawal than with other agents (especially paroxetine and venlafaxine) but that knowledge doesn't help you. What kind of symptoms are you having right now? The usual therapeutic dose for Lexapro is 10 mg, 7.5 mg might also be therapeutic for some people, but it is almost impossible to find a way to take that dose.
