Prozac ssri

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac ssri

prozac

Avatar f tn He suggested that this is autoimmune in nature and that an SSRI may help. i tried Prozac for a week once and some of my endocrine bloodwork went wacky (prolactin level was 165, normal is no higher than 30 and I was having hot flashes) Have any of you had any luck with an antidepressant in this class? My primary doc is reluctant as he says i am not depressed, although the situation can be depressing.
466048 tn?1207707074 Expect that it will take a good 4 to 6 weeks before the Prozac will even start working. These SSRI meds take plenty of time to build up theraputic levels in the blood streem. They are by no means a quick fix.
1295419 tn?1276822872 I was on Paxil for 8 months and switched to Prozac without any issues. About 5 months after being on Prozac I found out it was causing me some issues so I stopped it cold turkey. I was taking 30 mg/day. This was about 6 weeks ago. I have noticed that the last month or so every single time I wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning my hands are both tingling and "asleep". They go back to normal after a minute or so.
Avatar f tn hi do u think that the prozac (snri) may not help or even not work as it's an snri and not a ssri like the effexor. what is the best ssri to have a try if the effexor didn't work for me. why would my doctor swtich me from an ssri to an snri if he knows it may not help with my anxiety. iv never been depressed just had a panic attack in 2008 which caused me to have sleep problems.and thats when i was put on an anti depressant which sum people think they shouldn't have done.
Avatar m tn What I meant was, you've been on both Prozac and wellbutrin. Wellbutrin is often combined with an ssri to combat sexual and weight gain side effects. But as you taper down on the Prozac, you're mostly on the wellbutrin, and it's possible without the counterbalance of the ssri you're feeling the full effects of the stimulating qualities of the wellbutrin, which isn't generally used for anxiety problems for this reason.
Avatar f tn After seeing th psychiatrist he switched me to Prozac. I went from Prozac 10 mg to 15mg with no issues. When he increased my dose to 20 mg I began to experience frequent urge to urinated and burning in my pelvic area. My primary care checked me for UTI and yeast infection. I did have glucose in my urine and a yeast infection for which I was treated with Diflucan and Metronizal gel.I was treated for vaginosis. I am not sexually active.
449440 tn?1206887304 normal side effects of an SSRI. should subside in about 2 weeks from the date you started taking the prozac, maybe sooner. if it continues on past 3 weeks talk to your doc if it's bothering you that much. not too bad side effects though, get some rest, eat well and maybe when your feeling a little more up, do some exercises. i think you'll be fine real soon.
Avatar f tn Of all the SSRI antidepressants, Prozac (fluoxetine) is the easiest to get off of post-tx. Take it.
Avatar n tn I can tell you that I have many patients that safely take metoprolol and prozac (as well as other SSRI medications). I have not seen clinical interaction between these drugs. It is probably best to call your doctor to ask them if it is ok.
484508 tn?1290010544 I have been off Prozac for 6 months, but just a few days started it again because of major anxiety. I don't feel as anxious, but now I feel big time depressed...
Avatar f tn I have been on every ssri plus prozac since 13. Im now 16 and my thighs look ridiculous and when i walk it looks like I am slanted back b.c. my thighs don't match the rest of my body. I also read przac can do this. If I stopThe Drugs will this go back to normal, is it permanant, how can I know, and what drugs can I take to fix it?
Avatar f tn I have been taking prozac for about 5 years or so, slowly increasing the dose over time from 10mg to now 30 mg. I somehow missplaced my bottle and have been out for 2 days the only problem i have had is agitation and loose bowels which may also be due to holiday over eating. I was in a car accident last year and thats when i decided to increase my dose to 30mg because i was bed ridin for a month or so.
266195 tn?1215310411 s pretty common to be prescribed both an SSRI and a benzo for this disorder. I was on prozac once and have been on xanex forever (a long time with both xanex and paxil). Never noticed any interaction at all. After the prozac kicks in, be sure to taper off the xanex and don't stop it abruptly and you should be fine.
Avatar f tn Nobody really knows long-term effects there are (if any) with antidepressants. However, Prozac is the oldest SSRI out there, and people have been on it 20+ years, with no serious long-term effects reported yet. In generally, the SSRI antidepressants appear to be very safe. Though their long-term effects have not been adequately studied. Being on Prozac for 2-3 years should have no lasting detrimental effects. I was on Prozac for 3 years, and I'm now on Lexapro for 2 years.
Avatar n tn I have been on 20 mg paxil for panic attacks for 7 years, I've tried to wean from paxil(felt like had no energy on paxil) many times, unsuccessfully. I've recently switched to 20 mg prozac, without a taper. After about 5 weeks, I started to feel lousey-nausea, diarrhea, no appetite, depressed. Still feeling lousey. Would it likely be better to increase prozac, or switch back to paxil. If switching back to paxil, what are the best ways to do this.
Avatar m tn Because of the difficulties with tapering I tried to convert it to Prozac insted. I now take 10 mg Paxil and 10 mg Prozac. When this was going on (it is still going on), one day I started to wake up and everything became calm. However it didn't last that long. Because of symptoms of Parkinsonism I had to stop Propavan and instead take Mirtazapine 30 mg (a week ago).
Avatar f tn Even if they are safe you might have a bad reaction to them, Prozac is an SSRI and have carries side effects, it can make some people suicidal. If you are feeling depressed post again and we can help.
Avatar m tn t necessarily work the same as it would with a pure ssri, which prozac is. Some people use prozac to take people off other ssris because it has a longer life in the body, but you still have to taper off it, too, but since Effexor also targets norepinephrine receptors, not just serotonin as prozac does, I don't know if this works. As for your shrink saying it doesn't sound like withdrawal, they almost always say that. They really are clueless on withdrawal.
Avatar f tn They're very different ssris. Prozac stays in the body much longer, making it easier to quit and generally has fewer side effects. Paxil is a very stong ssri that also strongly affects choline receptors, can be very hard to quit, and has a lot of side effects, but can be more effective for anxiety. I'd try the prozac first, in fact I'd try all the ssris first, before I'd do Paxil.
Avatar n tn None of them are exactly the same as each other, but they fall into different categories. Prozac is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). Cymbalta is a norephrine reuptake inhibitor, which is a VERY similar group, but it acts on adrenaline as well as serotonin, and is therefore stronger and has stronger side effects. I've been on both kinds, and found them both fine, except that the SSRI didn't work for me.
Avatar m tn I was on Prozac for 7 years and was switched to Lexapro by my doc about 2 months ago for IBS and depression. I stopped taking it almost 3 weeks ago and am having some withdrawl issues...brain zaps (although a little better today), dizzy feelings, etc... Has anyone successfully gone through this? How long till withdrawl issues improved?
1042423 tn?1260994959 I have been diagnosed with general anxiety disorder, as well as panic disorder. I currently take Klonopin for the panic disorder, but was just prsecribed Prozac to help with my general anxiety. I have tried other SSRIs like Lexapro, but always had terrible dise effects. Has anyone had a good/bad experience with Prozac? What is the SSRI that typically produces the mildest side effects? I'm getting really tired of constantly switching meds, Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!!
Avatar n tn It works by blocking dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake. I really had my doubts about it since I took Prozac which is an SSRI in the past and it worked. But Wellbutrin does work and has the added bonus of not making you put on weight and not affecting the libido.
