Hi. I started Prozac 10 mg for GAD and Panic 3 days ago. I'm suddenly noticing increased anxiety. Is this a common side affect? If so, will it subside pretty quickly? I'm feeling worse than before:(

as i thought he pretty much told me it was anxiety related which makes sense because i have extreme social anxiety and depression, so for the most part i am convinced these things are from that but was wondering if it could possibly be something else that i'm missing. perhaps something with the thyroid? I dont know if i should keep going back to various types of doctors or if that's just a waste a time since it most likely is brought on by anxiety.
I did not want to get addicted to having to have a sleep aid to sleep, that is a road i have no interest in. Prozac was not an energy booster for me, i think energy comes from nutrition, and exercise and getting off my arse. i would take natural tiredness over insomnia and having to take a sleep aid any day.
look up the history of Zoloft on whikopedia, notice that it was banned in europe until magically in 1991 it was approved.
and still on the wellbutrin,im finding as i lower the prozac i feel more tired my adderall is 5 mg in am and 5 mg in pm i cant tell it helps me with energy,,,was hopeful for the patch but i put my last one on and it feel off i had 4 to last a month and i just got them the 23 and they r all gone..it may work fine for u i dont know why nothing gives me energy unless i have more add then dr thinks and it makes me tired..
Yes SSRIs withdrawal can include a bunch of symptoms but you haven't been a long time on Prozac and Prozac is thought to be relatively smooth to withdraw from.
Your real problem is the anxiety that comes with taking and withdrawing from drugs and your GAD.
Seriously I would consider CBT or weekly appointment with a QUALIFIED psychologist.
No matter how many drugs you take it won't cure your problem to the root but I think you still have some other drugs to try.
I think it's withdrawal as to the nausea, no appetite, lack of energy, feeling like you're in a daze. Heightened anxiety is a classic withdrawal problem, but also a side effect for some people of Prozac because it's a more stimulating antidepressant, but Effexor is much more stimulating, so I'm still going with withdrawal. But it's getting better, so that's good. That means this should be over with soon. Peace.
Example, my son takes prozac but also buspar to help further with his anxiety. He was on a mood stabilizer for a bit as well but no longer. But this is something I'd only allow a psychiatrist to suggest for you and work to get the best combination.
Lack of energy is frustrating. Talk to your prescribing doctor to see if he wants to tweak your meds, add something, subtract something, etc.
I agree that exercise can be beneficial. I'd also make sure you are getting proper sleep.
I took Prozac a few years ago and had good success for a few years, so I think my next step to try the Prozac again. I tried Effexor for about 8 months but it never really helped. I experienced extreme withdrawal from it while switching to wellbutrin.
I haven't seen any similar discussions about Wellbutrin withdrawal, and in fact have found lots of people taking both wb and prozac at the same time.
Any advice for Wellbutrin withdrawal/tapering would be appreciated.
I am 90 some days free of tramadol and the occasional hydros. Zero, none in 90 some days. I'm struggling with energy, motivation, concentration really bad. Dr put me on prozac in Jan. Its like all I want to do is nothing, no interest in anything at all. I work everyday, I do just enough to get by even at home. I can't seem to get motivated to do a thing. I take all the vitamins, a big handful. Am I bored, do I have a bad attitude, whats going on? I need to get past this part.
I took Prozac 20mg for 12 years, started out OK, it gave me lots of energy, I couldn't stop talking and I am a quiet person. Reasons for taking it soon resolved themselves, but I kept taking the meds, big mistake!! I noticed I was always hot when others were not, I would sweat even with moderate activity, never wore a jacket no matter how cold. My vision began to get worse, had to have glasses for reading and driving, I began to have hearing problems, turn the TV up more and more.
I am ALWAYS sleepy with Paxil and have become a real procrastinator - not to mention the short-term memory issues and sexual side effect - which have improved with the lower dosing as well. I was given prozac about 15 years ago for post-partum and general depression and it helped very much, even though I was only on it for a year, it changed my life. I also had more energy and had my eating under control as well.
i have lost 15 pounds with nutrisystem and doing much better i think i will go back to 20 mg prozac for ahile and see if pain goes away....
Ok i dont get it im on prozac since march,adderall since april and wellbutrin since june also xanax,everyone says these meds give u energy me.......well they dont me,,,,i was even on phentermine once to lose weigh and no energy,,,my drs never answer this question..
I was on fluoxetine (Prozac) for over a year from July 2011 then weaned off as was feeling and doing great and not wanting to be dependent on them, I had a bad week 5 week ago now with sleep so my doctor put me back on them and after 1/2 week felt great off 20mg at tea time, now this last week mainly from Wednesday I feel rubbish I know I'm getting 7/8 hours sleep but not feeling refreshed was wondering if changing to take it morning at 20mg and see if it works better or carry on tea time ta
Like you Welbuterin never really did help to eliminate my depression. It works for some, but not others. I was also on Prozac for several months also. The Prozac helped a little, but just wasn't powerful enough for me so I never got a good theraputic response from it.
I am kind of the exception because I am medication resistant and my depression and anxiety is a tough nut to crack.
I have been on 20 mg paxil for panic attacks for 7 years, I've tried to wean from paxil(felt like had no energy on paxil) many times, unsuccessfully. I've recently switched to 20 mg prozac, without a taper. After about 5 weeks, I started to feel lousey-nausea, diarrhea, no appetite, depressed. Still feeling lousey. Would it likely be better to increase prozac, or switch back to paxil. If switching back to paxil, what are the best ways to do this.
After heaps of research I found that prozac increases cortisol levels initially in the body and then I found out that fish oil blunts the effect of cortisol in the body and by golly I use the two together THANK GOODNESS it works beautifully- I feel awake, alert and energetic from the prozac but am calm and anxiety free from the fish oil- ALSO have done this for 2 days in a row and slept for the first time ALL the way through the night with no drugs for the first time in 7 weeks.
pharmmsits said it could be the prozac,,,,has anyone ever expereiecned this,,my dr just added addderall for my resssitant depression,,,said i would be alert and have energy started it yesterday and felt great today im tired,,,wondeer if its the combo of xanax and prozac with it,,,im suppose to have energy and feel up on it,,,,please any comments
