Common Questions and Answers about Prozac experiences

prozac

248167 tn?1220363690 There are many good results from Prozac, unfortunately all you hear about on the blogs are the bad experiences. It is trial and error as to what will work best for you as we are all different. If on the low dose you don't feel any better in 4-6 weeks, let your doctor know because this is when it's reaches it's full therapeutic level and the dosage may need to be changed. With the proper medication and dosage, medication can turn your life around, all for the better. Take care.
Avatar f tn This is common, but the dosage may be too high. DO NOT STOP THE PROZAC ABRUPTLY, this can cause seizures and other bad side affects. Call the doc who prescribed the Prozac and tell him what you are feeling, that's what he is there for. He can guide you as to what to do. Don't go by other's experiences, as we are all different. Prozac is a safe drug, I was on it for many years.
Avatar f tn I want to know if anyone has switched safely from Cymbalta to Prozac? I was previously on Prozac for a couple of years and my dr. & I believed that it had stopped being as effective. I changed to Cymbalta with great results. However, I am starting to believe that it is no longer working and am considering changing back to Prozac. Has anyone else had trouble with the drugs effects tapering off like that? And if so, how do I go about safely making the change?
Avatar n tn I have a top NYC Obgyn and RE and neither one suggested I stop taking prozac while I was pregnant or trying to concieve. I think they may wean you off if you become pregnant and move into the late second trimester, but not before then. It will not harm the baby - only your anxiety and depression can hurt the baby or the ability to concieve. I take prozac, so check with your Dr to see if one may be better than another.
Avatar n tn I have heard many a bad thing about prozac, anyone out there take prozac who suffers from panic disorder and depression?
1448936 tn?1363206346 Also..forgot to add. My doc and I tried out Klonopin to see if a longer lasting benzo would work for me. I tried for 2 weeks and had to go back to xanax. The klonopin made me feel worse. I felt tired, out of it, no motivation, mental confusion. I absolutely hated it. So i dont know if maybe that has something to do with my heartbeat. Switching my meds around. And its also another reason why im scared to try the prozac.
1427534 tn?1283119534 so I have lost my mother about two months ago and I left an 8 year relationship and moved to a new state. My doctor wants to put me on Prozac but I don't know what to do all I know is I need medication because everyday it seems to get worse.
1422233 tn?1282701102 This question could also qualify as a depression one so I hope it's ok to post it here. I'm a 22 year old female & have anxiety, depression, & OCD. I have been on Paxil (the generic brand) for about three years now. A couple of weeks ago I started to feel like it wasn't working for me anymore. I can feel the anxiety & I get down. It's not as bad as before I was on the Paxil, but I think I need a change. I have a Doctors' appointment this week.
1330182 tn?1279815900 I was wondering if anyone has had discontinuation symptoms (withdrawals) from stopping Prozac? I have been on Prozac for 2 years ( Was on Zoloft for 5 years prior to that) I tapered off slowly with Prozac (10mg to 5mg to 2.5mg) with my final pill in March of 2010.. I know that prozac lasts in the body a while, so is it possible that I am having delayed withdrawal? I was prescribed ssris for anxiety but they never really solved the problem..
Avatar m tn The worse thing in my opinion is the fear they instill in a person, especially the fear of having another attack. The treatment that was prescribed for me was anti-depressants,Prozac in my case. What prozac did was make me even more anzious. Like in your case the ativan, valium type of drugs where the only ones that gave me relief. Although they are addictive its in my case the only effective wat to treat a panic attack that is in progress.I am by fare no dr.
Avatar m tn t necessarily work the same as it would with a pure ssri, which prozac is. Some people use prozac to take people off other ssris because it has a longer life in the body, but you still have to taper off it, too, but since Effexor also targets norepinephrine receptors, not just serotonin as prozac does, I don't know if this works. As for your shrink saying it doesn't sound like withdrawal, they almost always say that. They really are clueless on withdrawal.
Avatar m tn My father is 73 years old Type I DM, and he had symptoms of deppression when his doctor prescribed him prozac for his deppression and temazepam to induce his sleep. 16 day after taking the medications my father suddenly refuse to take his medication and refuse to eat and his condition had worsened, As if he has lost his will to live.
Avatar m tn Hi there, in the process of changing my medication regime and attempting to reduce my prozac dosage (60mg). I've been on them for years and was wondering about how long should i attempt to reduce over what time frame, as experienced ssri withdrawl before which was'nt pretty and been attempting to do it myself, by commencing something else (dosulepin) and feel shaky after just reducing my dosage after 2 runs running. What have other people's experiences of this been??
Avatar m tn A psychiatrist prescribed me on Prozac among other meds but recently liek a month ago I stopped taking the Prozac because I was having some problems with my medicine providers and stuff since I turned 21 and wouldn't take me in their anymore. So I thought I wasn't getting meds anymore so I just stopped taking the Prozac.
Avatar f tn Do any of you have any experience with Prozac and Lamictal as far as weight or loss?
Avatar f tn I have been referred to a Phsyciatrist and he has prescribed me with Prozac starting with 20mg and working up to 40mg, but dilemma is whether to take them or not. I am medication free for the last 8 weeks and I don't feel as brain dead but the anxiety and my mood is taking its tole on me at the moment. Should I hang in another while or just take the Proxac!!!!!!
Avatar f tn im only 24 but have been on lots of different meds for my anexiety and depression starting when i was 14. about a year and a half ago i was finally sent to a psychiatrist when 40mg of prozac wasnt doing anything much. She diagnosed me with bipolar, anxiety and OCD. She upped me to 60mg of the prozac which actually did help but also put me on seroquel xl which im now on 300mg of an miratazipine 15mg at night to help me sleep a bit better.
519035 tn?1348275773 I am looking for something that is not going to make me a complete zombie, but I need help with the anxiety as well as all of the mood swings. I have many friends that are on prozac and has done wonders for them. Just wondering any personal experiences. i am on xanax .5 daily for right now. Short term until these other meds kick in. The only other one I have heard of is wellbutrin. Any thoughts or ideas thanks!
4542187 tn?1402677307 I'm getting weened off of Prozac. I'm noticing the affects. I'm so worried I won't be able to be without the meds and be happy. I'm also bring taken off xanax for anxiety. It's so hard. You're not alone!!
Avatar m tn Hi all just wished to find out from others past experience of the drug how long one should expect to experience withdrawal effects from prozac. Been off prozac myself for 2 1/2 weeks after changing to mirtazapine and now have buily up to an 45mg dose after 8 1/2 weeks but i'm experiencing a range of strange sensations over this whole period.
Avatar m tn Hi, I've had OCD since April 2015. I tried meditation and eating foods that increase serotonin levels, but it honestly didn't help me. I started taking Prozac in July 2015 and I was so much better by September 2015. The side effects I noticed were initially losing weight and just recently, starting this month, gaining a little weight. But my focus has improved tremendously.
1042423 tn?1260994959 I currently take Klonopin for the panic disorder, but was just prsecribed Prozac to help with my general anxiety. I have tried other SSRIs like Lexapro, but always had terrible dise effects. Has anyone had a good/bad experience with Prozac? What is the SSRI that typically produces the mildest side effects? I'm getting really tired of constantly switching meds, Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!!
