Prozac and valium

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac and valium

prozac

Hi and welcome to the forum. Valium is one of the most addictive drugs there is and the withdrawal from it is one of the worst. I know people who have been addicted to valium that have bad withdrawal symptoms that last for months and months. Plus, withdrawal from valium can kill you. Honestly. A person can have seizures if they are not under a doctor's supervision and taper off this drug very slowly.
Hello. I just started Prozac last week, 20 mg. once a day and today will be the 7th day I've been on it. I have actually felt worse since starting it. I have been taking 3-4 xanax a day on top of the prozac, where I was only taking 1-2 a day. I had to get up and leave a meeting today at school in front of the staff because I was having a full blown panic attack! I also have not been wanting to eat and have felt naseous in general! Is this normal?
People a thousand years ago had anxiety ten times worse and functioned without prozac, valium etc. Help her find peace in the life that surrounds her. ALl the best..
Wrong. Klonpin is long acting and is often used for tapering in place of valium but valium has the longest half life. See www.rxlist.com and compare. I think doctors use klonopin because there is a predujice against valium dating back to the 1960's when it first came out and many people became addicted and went through horrific withdrawls. It was completely unexpected. Incidentally, I'm seamstress. I had to reregister because I couldn't get on under that name.
The hell I'm going through now is very upsetting, I know I didnt take any Valium, just my Remeron and Klonopin and all of a sudden I'm guilty before proven innocent. As a teenager and young adult I did drugs socialy, but I grew out of that and have only taken meds that were prescribed. I do have a high tolerence to drugs, I woke-up under general anethesia when I had my c-section 21yrs. ago. I got off the methodone after one month because I was afraid of addiction. How ironic!
It prevents panic. Valium treats an attack directly. Prozac made me hyper and wanting more benzos. Paxil did too. If you take klonopin just take it as prescribed and tell your doctor if the dose needs to be upped I guess. I would not take valium if I were you unless you actually can't breathe through an attack and can't function. Thorazine is out there still...old but out there. I'm seeking a prognosis for myself and can't get one. I feel awful.
You can't worry about side effects because we all respond differently to these types of drugs, and just because anxiety is listed as a side effect doesn't mean you will experience it. Prozac is an excellent medication and has been widely used for many years. Work closely with your doctor when it comes to your medication, he knows best. Take care.
If you have been having a side effect of visuals from prozac, and you have been on it for 5 months, it is very unlikely that those symptoms will go away . But if you are wrong, and the visuals are part of a pattern, and a form of hallucinations, then you should be on a different medication. That is what you should talk to your doctor about. And possibly trying the new drug recommended could solve the problem and answer your question. Taking that medication does not make a diagnosis.
I AM 4 MONTHS PREGNANT AND WAS TAKING VALIUM AND PERCOCET FOR THE FIRST FIVE WEEKS OF PREGNANCY. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS WILL CAUSE ANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS?
I am going on Valium for my anxiety. I can't tollerate xanax because it gives me that "druged" feeling and makes me extremely sleepy. A friend gave me a few valium for the weekend and I FELT GREAT! No body aches, my mind was clear and I had energy. I realize this was only two days but can anyone tell me about the negatives that go along with prolonged use of Valium. Thanks in advance for any direction.
org/wiki/SSRI#Contraindications_and_drug_interaction It says that benzodiazepines like alprazolam (Xanax) or diazepam (Valium) (klonopin is also a benzo) along with SSRIs (paxil/prozac) may increase blood levels and risk of toxicities. IF this is true 4) Why am I prescribed Klonopin with the Prozac (and previously the Paxil?) I have had no problems with mixing the two together but I'm curious as to why it would say that in wikipedia. Thanks!
I have been of Prozac for 7 months and I am very sick with zaps and can't sit still and pain. I am on klonopin for it and this really disturbs me.
i'm no doctor, but i myself take methadone and once i took a valium, i've never felt sicker!! i do believe it is very dangerous. . .
Lexapro sent me to the ER with a major anxiety attack and prozac also made me nervous. Long story short, my doc. and physchiatrist recognized that I ONLY needed ativan for my anxiety. Unfortunately and for some reason, a lot of doctors out there are trying to treat anxiety with anti-depressants. Anti-depressants are uppers and they basically make you more nervous. These drugs are good for depressive folks. However, for anxiety...we need the benzos...
The doctor prescribed valium and she eventually got addicted to it and this also affected greatly the health of my 2 younger brothers later.
5 mg of Paxil for at least 6 years and my doct cut me down to 25 mg Paxil and 10 ,mg Prozac for first week....I'm on day 2 and I'm shaky, dizzy, beyond exhausted and hungrier then ever....also have had a medium headache....did any of this happen to you? If so, how long did it last for?
One person can take 2 mg Valium and have a marked effect and others have to take 5-10 mg several times a day. Best of luck with it!
DEAR DOCTOR, I WAS DIAGNOSED TO HAVE DEPRESSION AND I WAS GIVEN PROZAC 20MG I TABLET DAULY WITH RIVOTRIL 2MG 1 TABLET AT NIGHT. ONCE I WAS RELATIVELY OK WITH THESE MEDICATIONS. have nolt drank in 2 1/2 years and i have missed it but i have been on either ativan or klonoppin..in march i got a new pashy and he put me on xaanx again and prozac and then adderall.i say him on thr 4th and he precribed for me to drink 2 beers a night, since i have been depressed about not being able to drink....says i will be fin as does my pharmmsit but im still scared...never drank with prozac or adderalll before..
I was given Clonazepam for help through the first month or so, and it helped me sleep and avoid major panic attacks... The paxil and prozac are drugs that will hopefully work all/most of the time, instead of having to take short acting ones like ativan or clonazepam... So...this is pretty normal I think, and you'll probably feel much better soon. I did feel CRAZY for the first month, and even when I switched to prozac to try that (because of Paxil weight gain) I felt CRAZY...
Dh and I have been trying to get pregnant for 16 months and this last month I was on the koladapins from prozac for the last month because I haven't been ovulating so they knew it was safe to take a class d. I started to lose the ability for prozac to do me any good. Does anyone know of any good meds they can recommend for me that would be safe for me to take while TTCing?
i just started taking prozac and wellbutrin. with this combination it helps with anxiety and depression. yes, i struggle with benzos as well etc. the combination of this two meds has really helped with w/d.
i smoke weed every day and take celexa, valium, tricor, omeprozole, plavix and amlodapin 4 various ailments . does anyone out there know about prochlorperazine? is it safe to take to get high?
If there is anyway possible that you could obtain another prescription of valium and stick to a slow taper plan would be (IMO), a good idea. Otherwise, you could have a serious seizure which may be life threatening. I say this because you have been on valium for a very long time, and like your doc said, it may take a year to feel normal again.
Reading through some of these posts, I feel comfortable and confident with Ryan's excellent info but am I understanding right that tolerance to the ansiolytic effects of Valium and Klonopin are not going to happen? I have been on Xanax for 2 years now prn. Started out .5 MG and am now taking 1 MG. While it still works for me I have decided to stop taking it because it generally now only lasts 3 to 4 hours before the anxiety rebounds. Because of the nature of Xanax-I do NOT multi-dose on it.
I now fear I am addicted to vicoprofen given to me by neurologist for headaches stemming from fibro. I also take valium 15 mg. nightly for help sleeping and muscle spasams. I have not had problems if I don't take valium for days. But vicoprofen is another problem. I have been taking 200 mg. w/7.5 mg of vicodin 2-3 x a day for about a year. Now I need to take two at a time 2-3x a day to receive relief from pain and miss the euphoric feeling I used to have at just taking one.
due to not being able to continue taking valium i asked my psychiartrist about the possiblity of overlapping seroxat and prozac.( i tried switching from one to the other and ended up in A&E because the seroxat withdrawal was unbearable). she looked up what the offical line was on the subject, and refused to do it as it is not recommended. if this advise has been given to you by your GP i would recommend asking to be refered to a psychiartrist.
She agreed and tapered me off of the Zoloft and Klonopin, and suggested I try going back on the Prozac and Valium. Not rocket science, but it makes sense to me to try the combination that helped me the most in the past. She also said that if this combo is going to work this time, I'll likely know after being on 20 mg of the Prozac for 2 weeks. That sounds about right to me. It doesn't take me 6 weeks to respond to these medications (regardless if I respond well or not.
