If birth control is helping mood swings, the problem is likely hormonal, and Prozac doesn't address that issue. If she's been on the meds for as long as you say, it's unlikely to cause nausea now, unless she started the birth control recently. Personally, I wouldn't want a 15 year old to be taking birth control -- playing with hormones is probably not the healthiest thing to do for anyone, other means of birth control are safer for health.
Your depression may not warrant Prozac - it may only need adequate thyroid hormones, vitamins and minerals. Prozac does tend to cause tiredness and when one already had fatigue the last thing you want is a medication that exacerbates the issue.
I think you should ask to have testing done to make sure your pituitary gland is working properly... since you already know you have low testosterone and hypothyroidism.. testing for diabetes will take of that part.
I first tried Effexor for one week...made me really sick. Then went on 10mg Prozac and got even sicker...one major panic attack for 3 weeks straight, ended up in the ER two times. So...quit that, but still have the anxiety and depression issues. So, now I'm going to start Zoloft, starting low, 12 1/2 mg, since Im so sensitive to meds. I'm really hoping to ease into this med. I do have some adavan in case increase anxiety occurs.
I took Prozac 20mg for 12 years, started out OK, it gave me lots of energy, I couldn't stop talking and I am a quiet person. Reasons for taking it soon resolved themselves, but I kept taking the meds, big mistake!! I noticed I was always hot when others were not, I would sweat even with moderate activity, never wore a jacket no matter how cold. My vision began to get worse, had to have glasses for reading and driving, I began to have hearing problems, turn the TV up more and more.
It is exhausting. I went on and off Prozac for several years and the situation did not improve. Two years ago a new doctor gave me Zoloft but it made me gain weight, which is an issue for me. My depression started as a teenager because I was overweight, and I know I became a very insecure adult with low self esteem, in great part because of this. Switched back to Prozac and things remained the same, though I managed to lose the extra weight.
I tried both synthetic and natural, and kept moving forward as best I could. As I had a hysterectomy @ 31: had to trust doc know what he was doing.
Within 2 yrs I was hospitalized with severe depression/anxiety. The psychiatrist verified that my problem was not hormonal.
Then I saw a doctor for sinus trouble and left office with a hormone patch....she was very anti head meds. Tried that for awhile ...no results except raw skin:).
t have kids and you r trying to protect yourself from getting pregnant) but when I stopped hrt and balanced out hormones with progesterone (natural and some other hormones excluding estrogen) lost 30lbs..I failed to mention I had already been exercsing 20 yrs, 2 hours a day, eating right and still no weight loss then. However, I was able to stop diabetes meds as I eat 5 times a day, no sugar imbalances, no hormone imbalances, exercise still and I now weigh 120 lbs since 2003....
I have been on every ssri plus prozac since 13. Im now 16 and my thighs look ridiculous and when i walk it looks like I am slanted back b.c. my thighs don't match the rest of my body. I also read przac can do this. If I stopThe Drugs will this go back to normal, is it permanant, how can I know, and what drugs can I take to fix it?
I was on 10mg of prozac up until the day of the test for one week only and I take prevacid everyday and reglan PRN. I took 5 mg of reglan 2.5 hours before the test. I feel awful dizzy, nauseous, no appetite etc. My ears feel all plugged up. I am waiting to get an appt with an endocrinologist. I had a brain MRI 4.5 years abo that was normal but said my pituitary was slightly prominant. I started to get hot flashed while on the prozac. Could all my medication have caused this?
I am able to live with my attacks (which can get really bad at times) and I actually have a fear of taking meds. I think the only thing I will take is a child's dose of tylenol only when I have a fever or migrane. I have discovered that taking Vitamin B Complex capsules have helped reduce my stress and anxiety levels. Also, I still love taking Flinstone vitamins, on top of the vit B complex. I feel great when I don't miss out in taking one a day.
The Dr said this would go away once the prozac fully kicked in , but its been a month and nothing. I know the prozac is helping but i have ups and downs all day. If I sit at home by myself for an hr or two i will feel depression and or anxiety. I guess my question is..... do you think that I should request a higher mg of prozac (20) or keep giving the 10mg pills a try? I hate having to try so hard to not feel depressed.
Hi i'm on Prozac and trazodone if you start on a low dose of trazodone it shouldn't be an issue and there really is no interaction with trazodone and Prozac because I've been on trazodone and Prozac for years and I've never had a problem you just have to take it like maybe you're better off just taking half a tablet or something
