5371600 tn?1425830471 During pregnancy as your uterus expands, the placenta develops, your body circulates more blood, and the fetus grows. Folic acid is important for a healthy pregnancy. Folic acid decreases the risk of some birth defects. It lowers the risk of birth defects such as neural tube defects, heart and limb defects, urinary tract anomalies, narrowing of the lower stomach valve, and oral facial clefts like cleft lip and cleft palate.
Avatar f tn so i actually saw my doctor doctor today. i told her i was taking iron pills, folic acid, and prenatal vitamins. she told me i don't need to take the folic acid. i was like ummm ok because my mid wife told me i should take the folic acid because prenatal vitamins have a little bit. who do i listen to?
Avatar f tn Folic acid is important. 400mg is a big difference.
871965 tn?1241833146 As many others have already said as long as the prenatal vitamin has 1mg of folic acid you should be good. Folic acid must be available in the body at the time of conception, that is "before is more important than after". I have found that the prenatal vitamins differ significantly on the amount of "iron" contained in the pill. I think this is because the "iron" is what can cause nausea/vomiting in some people.
Avatar f tn When pregnant, I took a prenatal, an Omega 3, and folic acid (extra from what was in the prenatal). Iron is also a good idea, if the prenatal doesn't have 100% of the daily recommended dose.
13663674 tn?1431713461 My VitaFusion gummies contain the same amount of folic acid as the regular prenatals. (800mcg) they also contain everything else plus DHA. Only thing it does not have is iron.
1150573 tn?1261964987 My doctor recommended that I continue with my prenatal vitamins while trying to concieve. I also take a folic acid supplement as it is a good idea to have it in your system for about 3 months before getting pregnant. Many times the most important vitamins the baby needs come into play before we even know we're pregnant so it's a good idea to have everything readily available for you little bean sprout!
Avatar f tn yeah prenatal vit is very to take when ttc, My doctor told me to take prenatal & 1mg of folic acid & that's what I do, but instead of taking prenatal, I take Geritol which is kind of the same, they have more vitamins & ingredrients in them.
Avatar f tn I am excited but my mom scared me, she asked me if I was taking my prenatal vitamins and have I been drinking Orange Juice. I have never really taken vitamins... Should I be worried...
Avatar f tn The most important thing in a prenatal vitamin is the folic acid Flintstone gummies have folic acid so try picking up some Flintstone gummies or Flintstone vitamins chewable kind and see if you can handle those
Avatar n tn Honest Co makes a great prenatal and it has folate acid in in which in better for you than folic. (They are the same thing folic is just man made) you can find it at target.com I bought it in bulk from jet.com and for less per bottle. But be main thing is you need to be taking a prenatal if they make you nausea try a gummy one (or an iron free one)...
5727805 tn?1378193052 Is anyone choosing NOT to take folic acid and iodine? I took it for my first son and he was born with a tongue tie and a hyperspadius. And studies have been done on folic acid causing these. So is anyone choosing not to take these prenatal?
Avatar f tn You can find folic acid in leafy greens, citrus fruit, beans and whole grains.
Avatar f tn I have been taking folic acid vitamins since I was 5 weeks pregnant, I am now 11 weeks and 1 day and I was wondering, I only have two vitamins left so is it worth buying more or should I just switch to pregnacare now?
Avatar n tn Don't forget to get folic acid also. If u go with gummies..gummies don't have enough folic acid some don't have any or some over the counter pill don't have enough of it.
455110 tn?1205964069 Most prenatal vitamins contain more folic acid, iron and calcium than do standard adult multivitamins. Prenatal vitamins have been claimed to promote thicker hair and stronger nails, but researchers haven't yet proved whether prenatal vitamins truly have these effects. Although prenatal vitamins are safe for otherwise healthy adults, they may cause constipation, nausea or vomiting.
1492421 tn?1290300515 I would take a complete prenatal. In addition to folic acid, they have higher daily values of all the vitamins you need for a healthy pregnancy than regular multivitamins.
Avatar n tn Was too much iron that was making me so sick on top of pregnancy nausea and was burping up fish oil. Now im taking vitafusion prenatal gummies with Folic acid and DHA. I feel a lot better...still have nausea though.
Avatar f tn If you are taking prenatal vitamins, which are extremely recommended by most OBs, then they already contain folic acid. I would recommend starting on a prenatal vitamin now or soon. When I was 6 weeks I started, and my doctor said it was a good time because it gives your body time to adjust to them and efficiently get the proper vitamins, like folic acid and iron, into your bloodstream.
Avatar m tn So, from weeks 4-6 of my pregnancy ( the most important time for supplementing folic acid, as I have recently read) I was not getting enough folic acid from supplementation. Also, I eat mostly whole grains and gluten free foods. I rarely eat foods fortified with folic acid. Should I be concerned with matters such as spina bifida?
Avatar f tn Even though prenatal vitamins contain folic acid I've heard that it's a good idea to take extra during pregnancy. I didn't know much about folic acid during my first pregnancy I only took my prenatal vitamins and my son turned out just fine. Is anyone taking extra folic Acid or has anyone been prescribed folic Acid?!
Avatar f tn The vitamins are fine but I would skip the multivitamin and do the prenatal with the e, b, c, selenium, and magnesium. You can also add fish oil and a folic acid supplement. Once u get pregnant discontinue all except prenatal, folic acid, and fish oil.(all according to my re) good luck.
Avatar n tn If you were to do this, you should take a folic acid supplement. The folic acid is so important for the brain development of your baby. Congratulation on you pregnancy! I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Devin had a growth disorder due to the lack of folic acid early in pregnancy. Now almost 2 years later i have been on folic acid and prenatals we are trying to concieve again. Good luck to all.
