Avatar n tn Signs include slurred speech and difficulty in balance. Is this common for cancer patients or something more. She is taking morphine for the pain, but they seem to think it isn't that. She didn't take any the last couple of days, yet the symptoms are still there. I know that every person is different when it comes to cancer, but what should we expect in the comming weeks as the chemo has stopped. Could she feasibly live for another few months in the amount of pain she's in?
Avatar f tn As i understand it the morphine is the less destructive on the liver than the other drugs for pain.Anyway it has helped me a great deal.Just a suggestion.
Avatar f tn Drugs should not be used, sometimes morphine is used in cancer patients with severe pain to relieve the pain, which is given on the basis of a prescription. Drug dependence, tolerance and gross nervous system side effects are the common reasons why drugs are not used. Take care!
506043 tn?1222294696 Hi all, I realize everyone is completely different in how they respond thyroid medication, but to all the thyroid cancer patients out there, can you tell me what dosage of what worked for you for maximum cancer suppression without making you feel like total ****? Thanks guys!
19579204 tn?1480364655 My husband had the electronic stimulator first. It broke twice in a month so we opted for the Medtronic pain pump. More and more it's having recalls, failures and complications. Pump failure, catheter failure, and pump stall in 14 months. Fewer doctors will take patients that have them. The expense and side effects are mounting. Dry mouth rotted his teeth. Low testosterone so we do injections.
Avatar n tn He is scheduled for an ultrasound of the thyroid to check for cancer but the doctor told him that his thyroid was not producing anything. He had colon cancer in 1993 and 1/3 of is colon was removed and there has been no reoccurance so hopefully there are no other gastro-intestinal problems. I will ask the doctor to check his cortisol levels. You did not mention the morphine, so do you not see that as a possible reason for the weight loss?
Avatar f tn My 52-yr old daughter was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer in Feb 2009. She underwent a series of radiation and chemo treatments which were completed mid-July of 2009. . CT and MRI show that the cancer hasn't spread to the bones in her arms... but for the past 10 months she has had increasing pain...first in the right arm, then in both arms. She currently can't use her right arm and has limited/painful use of her left one. An MRI shows rotor-cup damage.
669241 tn?1236264344 I have fentanal patches which is a opiod i change it every 72 hrs it realease some each hour i am on 100 they give these too terminal cancer patients norm or when they cant control the pain by any other means, they are not popular in some countrys as people have died of an overdose by mistake due to if they get over heated by a bath hot water bottle sun it can burn the skin and heat the patch to relaease the dose all at once.
Avatar n tn Recently, the itching was considered (postulated) to be due to accumulation of an endorphin, a natural substance that attaches (binds) to the natural receptors (acceptors) for morphine in nerves. You see, nerves in the skin carry the sensation of itching. Indeed, the finding that itching improved in some people treated with drugs that block the binding of morphine or endorphins to nerves supported this consideration.
Avatar n tn is it poss to request the morphine be increased. with dying patients there is no ceiling on the limit of morphine one can have-however sometimes the MD doesnt agree. ask for a benzo( lorazepam , alprolazam). if agitation contines ask for haloperidol.
Avatar n tn I would really do research on the RAI. There are a lot of web sites out there. From what I have been told your thyroid starts thumping and dumping everything into your system as it dies. You can not be around people for up to 2 weeks from what I have read. You have to be totally seperate from others in regards to food prep , laundry , sleeping etc. I have done ton of research on this and I made the choice to not go this way. Now that is not to say that the surgery does not have side effects.
Avatar m tn ve been with my father every minute for 8 months as he suffered excruciating bone cancer pain. He also, like many people, had an uneducated aversion towards morphine, so he tried everything else first. Diclofenac (another NSAID) was his favorite pill, which ultimately wiped out virtually all the platelets from his blood, and caused systematic internal bleeding. Of all the conventional things, I'd say Fentanyl patch was most effective with least side-effects, but his pain was 24/7.
Avatar f tn 30mg of Morphine is small dosage anyway so I think either doctor increase dosage OR switch to stronger opiates for breakthrough. You did not mention what milligrams it is for percocet? OR you choose to cut it down. Whichever you and doctor may decide what it would be best for you.
Avatar n tn Many anesthesiologists and doctors/surgeons are unfamiliar with the proper equalanegesic dosage of morphine for patients on methadone maintenance, or using methadone for pain. As a result, they make the mistake of giving you too little morphine when they are using that in place of or in addition to your methadone dose for pain. Sometimes they even think that the methadone you normally take will help address your post-surgical pain. This is in fact NOT the case at all.
Avatar n tn Three weeks ago I had 12 pints of fluid drained from my abdomen. Even morphine did not help me until I was taken to hospital. Last three days I have had similar pain in my ribs, stomach and spine but without the swelling in my stomach. Am wondering if this is side effects from the chemo or something more sinister.
Avatar m tn Vitamin D and calcium Studies have shown that taking both vitamin D and calcium provides additional cancer protection for many types of cancer. Calcium intake of more than 1000 mg/day from either diet or supplements is recommended. Patients in one study took daily doses of 1100 IU (27.5 mcg) vitamin D and 1450 mg calcium. These patients had a 77% reduction in all-cancer rates between the ends of the first and fourth years of the study compared to those taking a placebo.
Avatar m tn Mollyrae has good information and knowledge of the Fentanyl Patch. However one of us have misread your post. She stated that you are back on the morphine. I thought you said you are on the Fentanyl but would prefer to return to the Morphine. Please clarify. And I do not think that once you take Fentanyl (25) and it doesn't work for you that morphine won't work for you again. We all have different systems and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another.
Avatar n tn or do you think this progression of pain medication is not too unusual? For any patients or caregivers, does our current dosage seem very high to you and what side effects such as weakness have you seen?
1686743 tn?1306005451 For the last year I have been taking15 mg Morphine2 times a day, and 5mg Oxycodone HCI For pain in back and hips, and knee. At this dosage I have been getting some relief.Could one say that I'm chemically dependent. I'm 6 ft tall and 172 lbs. What is the suggested dosage for 61 yr old? I just had surgery in my chest and the pain level is 10 by times 10. they increased the oxy to 10 mg every 4 hrs and the Morphine 3 times a day 30 mg a day. with little effect.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking Morphine Sulfide 100MG X 4 daily and Morphine IR 15MG X 6 daily for severe abdominal pain. Unfortunately I am starting to experience a horrible side affect that causes my blood to feel like it is on fire, which causes me to sweat horribly and feel like I am running a fever. I have tried fentynol patches, but experienced severe mental side efffects and could not continue use.
Avatar n tn The side effects can be of higher magnitude in some patients. Make sure that you have taken appropriate dosage, otherwise you may have to discontinue the drug and need to take another class of drugs dextromethorphan, guanapheneisn etc. I suggest you to consult your doctor for further management. Take care and regards.
648439 tn?1225058862 he has had liver cancer as a complication of hep c, so in his case, it IS an anti-cancer 'chemo' therapy, aimed at both eradicating the virus AND preventing recurrence of cancer.
