Avatar m tn I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu.
Avatar m tn I particularly notice difficulty with speaking, searching for simple words, or names, some tiredness. Also, since beginning Metoprolol Tart, 50 mg.(probably 4 years ago) taken 2 times daily, I have had three episodes of severe nausea with vomiting coming on suddenly. When I went to ER my bp was in the area of 190/105. Most recent episode in mid-March. Fine the next day except for mild tiredness. ER doctors have diagnosed as either an anxiety attack, or most recently, Vertigo. B.P.
Avatar m tn My docror reduced my Diovan to 40 mg and gave me Metoprolol Succinate 25 mg because he said my resting heart rate was in the upper 80's. I started having strange feelings while sleeping, like my heart or stomach was shivering and I used to wake up at night after a few hours of sleep because of this feeling. I was still feeling dizzy and I wanted to stop the Diovan or the Metoprolol Succinate. My cardiologist said I should continue the Metoprolol succ and I can stop the Diovan.
Avatar n tn I think the anxiety could have been due to health anxiety related to a spinal headache or a reaction to a z-pack, which I had never used before. On my second visit to the ER, they prescribed 50 mg of metoprolol tartrate twice per day. Now my doctor wants me to take an SSRI to help the anxiety. I tried 50 mg of Zoloft but had severe nausea and anxiety the first day and stopped it. Now my doctor has prescribed 10 mg.
Avatar m tn I take atenolol 25 mg for fast heart rate and while in ER, they gave me 50 mg Lopressor (which I believe is metoprolol), one time dose of Lopressor. About a day or two later, I woke up in middle of night with elevated blood pressure and somewhat tachycardia. The blood pressure was higher than what I was used to and I attributed it to not receiving any more Lopressor. It took me about 5 days to not feel affect of Lopressor, and I only took one dose. BP hit 158/100, high for me.
214864 tn?1229715239 d actually like to persue going after the manufacturer , KV Pharmaceuticals, for not taking responsibility that their metoprolol succinate ER 50 MG is a dangerous drub. Please contact me on on my email: ***@****.
Avatar m tn I was taking Metoprolol 100 mg. twice daily but was getting too tired from this so my cardiologist changed it to 50 mg. 4 times a day. I'm still getting the same dose but it is spread out so I'm not having as many side effects from it. It is more of a pain having to take it this way but it does work better for me. So I think there are different ways of taking it but check with your cardiologist first.
1717715 tn?1318297295 Hey guys, I take Metoprolol SUCC ER 50 mg once a day for what they THINK is mostly just inappropriate sinus tachycardia and a bit of anxiety that probably grew from that. At normal, my hair was probably the richest and thickest you would have ever seen but now, its getting oily much quicker, and has gotten SEVERELY more thin and light. I'm only 22 and good hair genes runs in my family, its not like im genetically pre-disposed to hair loss. Does anyone think it can be the medication?
Avatar f tn I am on 200 MG of Metoprolol Succ er! The Pharmacist at CVS gave this to me instead of the Toprol-xl my Doctor had prescribed. I think the dosage is too big and I have had more trouble with the pill than without. I took myself off it for a while, to get some sleep and to stop the headaches. The CVS Pharmacist gave it to me AFTER the drug was recalled. It is the big pills that they are talking about.
Avatar m tn He did an Echocardiogram and gave me a Holter monitor. The Echo came out o.k., but the Holter showed 38,000 PACs per day. I am taking 50 mg of Metoprolol ER a day. That did not eliminate the PAC's, but I only have 22,000 per day now - so I keep on taking it.
Avatar n tn I was struggling with side effects from Cardiezem and asked to have my medicine changed, so I was put on 50 mg Metroprolol Tartrate per day, but began to suffer some nasty side effects--headaches, dizziness, nausea, abdominal cramps, lucid dreams, runny nose, and my heart rate dropped from 75-85 bpm to 45 to 55 bpm's depending on what I was doing. When I would sleep it dropped into the low 40's, and I couldn't focus at work, couldn't exercise.
Avatar m tn t take care of the high HR. I take both Metoprolol and Diltiazem, 50 mg and 240 mg respectively. They seem to work well together. Maybe you can take a lower dose of Metoprolol along with the Diltiazem, perhaps at a higher dose. Your post implies you nightmares are gone now that you are off of the BB... the CCB may also have that side effect.
Avatar f tn I was also having a lot of anxiety and panic attacks at that time. I was prescribed metoprolol 25 mg. My blood pressure is usually normal and after taking the medicine it had been getting a little too low so I was told to take only half. My bp is still getting down to 92/60 at times and is making me feel tired and lightheaded. Has anyone experienced this? I am worried about my bp getting even lower and making me pass out. The nurse at my cardiologist office told me not to skip my dose.
Avatar n tn ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar n tn If he was prescribed 100 mg Toprol XL once/day it should be the same as taking metoprolol tartrate 50 mg 2/day. We are not physicians nor pharmacists and you should consult one or both about drug substitutions and dosage equivalents.
Avatar n tn Talk it over with your cardiologist to see if you can try 50 mg XL once a day. If she agrees you can split you 100 mg tablets - if necessary buy a pill splitter. Here I assume you'll get a chance to see what 50 mg will do and I further assume you didn't have serious side effects at the 25 mg level.
Avatar f tn In an attempt to avoid an ablation for SVTs & going to the Emergency Department lately once a month to get converted with IV medication, (I'm older with co-morbidities, there's a pandemic, & really, my ElectroPhysiologist doesn't have a lot of experience doing ablations), my EP & I are trying different medications. I'm increasing metoprolol succinate (the extended release one) from 25 mg to 37.5 mg.
Avatar n tn tried to change me to Terazosin but the flutters were intollerable so he put me back on Metoprolol. My BP is high on the 50 mg of Metoprolol (169/90) so he wants to give me 50 mg Metoprolol in the morning and another 50 mg at night. I'm worried that this will increase the heart flutters. I'm so sick of bananas...I can't imagine eating even more of them. Other potassium rich foods don't seem to give me the benefit that bananas do. Any advise?
Avatar f tn does anybody have any experiences getting off metoprolol tartrate? I've been taking 25 mg a day (split in 2) for around 2 years now, I've occasionally gone to 50 mg a day but had to go back down Everytime. it was given to me because of PVC / slightly high blood pressure and sinus tach. it helped at first but I was sent to the ER 16 days ago for panic attack / tach due to smoking weed. ever since my symptoms have gotten so much worse.
589617 tn?1218719782 ve been on Metoprolol for about the last month for SVT and atrial flutter. I started at 50 mg/day and dropped to 25 mg/day after the first 2 days. I had some nausea, sleepiness, etc and passed out on the second day - thats why my dosage was reduced. Prior to taking metoprolol I had SVT episodes about every 2-3 months and I've had one since I started on the metoprolol. So I can't say that its working in my case. I'm scheduled for a second opinion for an EP in a few weeks.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have been taking a beta blocker, 50 mg Metoprolol ER (Extended/Slow Release), for several years but have with my cardiologist approval today refilled my BB prescription with Metoprolol Tartrate (normal release) to be taken at 25 mg twice a day (every 12 hours). My reason is driven mainly by the fact the Tartrate is about 1/6th the cost of the Suc (ER).
Avatar f tn who changed me to Quinapril twice a day because he said it was better for kidneys and added Metoprolol ER 50mg / day because my pulse was always around 90. My BP was usually 120 / 80 with the Ramipril. It's now down to 105 / 65 and my pulse is down to 70. BUT I can't stand how gassy the Metoprolol makes me. I am walking around passing gas all day without being able to control it. I also have had terrible dreams and think I am feeling depressed.
Avatar n tn I have had palpitations since starting on metoprolol 50 mg bid. I only had them occasionally before. I did ask my doctor if the metoprolol could be the cause and he did not seem to think so -- it might be as Brooke says, that the lower heart rate makes them more noticeable - my HR on metoprolol is in the 40s as my normal resting HR is about mid-50s. I have given up coffee and alcohol which has not made any difference. Hope things get better for you.
