Methadone and torsades

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone and torsades

methadose

Avatar f tn I have been "diagnosed" with PACs and Sinus Arrythmia...which I was told that these are normal variants... I have horrible anxiety form PTSD and some depression. I have been very reluctant to start any meds because I have read that some can prolong the QT interval or induce Torsades. The internet is great when you do not have anxiety...lol! What is the safest? How common is Torsades or drug induced Torsades with these?
Avatar f tn Ive been on Methadone for almost 7-8 years. I was a raging addict for far to long, to the point that blacking out happened on an every other day basis. When I feel in love I realized how much I needed to change because of all the good things I was depriving myself for. So I stopped taking a lot of medication and cut my methadone use in half. I did this around three years ago.
Avatar f tn Rarely, Erythromycin has been associated with the production of ventricular arrhythmias, including ventricular tachycardia and torsades de pointes, in individuals with prolonged QT intervals. I stress that this is a very rare event. If you do not have LQTS, and there is no family history of sudden cardiac death than I would not pay attention to what you may have heard.
134885 tn?1208455263 Everything that you have said makes me think that Torsades is much more possible and if it is Torsades, you should have an ICD implanted if you are on Beta blockers and still fainting. I also have congenital Long QT Syndrome and had been told alot of BS by alot of cardiologists before I finally found an EP that knows what he is talking about. Don't let a doctor make you complacent with this... if you think he is wrong then by all means get a second opinion soon.
Avatar n tn Dear Doctor, I am a 37-year-old man who has suffered from PACs/PVCs for about 15 years. All tests for rhythm and/or structural abnormalities have been conducted with good results. I am a runner and mainly get PACs/PVCs during the first few minutes of my runs-- often they are somewhat painful. Also, for the last two years, my sleep has been disrupted by palpitations that are consistent with nocturnal panic.
1264367 tn?1408104163 I have gastroparesis, and GERD, and am on methadone maintenance. I noticed I started having problems as soon as I started the Methadone Clinic, 3 yrs ago. I recently had an endoscopy and waiting on the biopsy results. I'm so sick of not being able to eat anything. I'm living off of oatmeal and can't over eat. But it's not over eating because I've been starving. I can only eat a small bowl of oatmeal before I take my methadone and then another small one for lunch.
Avatar n tn Erythromycin and Cipro are both on the QT drug list that can cause prolongation of the QT interval on an ECG and can cause the arrhythmia Torsades de pointe. This is usually worse for patients with Long QT Syndrome or for people taking anti arrhythmic drugs or other drugs also on the QT Drug list. Check it out at www.****.org.
20794198 tn?1534529493 it lasted all in all around 40 seconds or so and then my heart rate started dropping quickly, within a minute or so, i felt a normal slightly elevated heart rate, and was left severely dizzy and tired. i had a ecg 4 hours later at hospital and it showed nothing what so ever concerning. I have had a stress test in 2015, a echocardiogram in 14, aswell as multiple holter monitors!
Avatar m tn I can guarantee, by 100% certainty, that this was not Torsades. Torsades is usually pulseless, and manifest with fainting spells. It's the closest you can get to ventricular fibrillation. It's very rare unless the UNcorrected QT interval is close to 600msec.
Avatar f tn I just finished a 5 day z pack that was prescribed for a sinus infection that was giving me severe headaches. My heart started to feel funny and I looked at the insert which said could cause irregular hearbeats. I've taken this medication in the past with no issue. I do not have any cardiac disease but I do smoke, should I just wait for about 5 days to see if once the meds are out of my system I'm ok, or should I go see a doctor or go to the ER?
Avatar n tn It is a heart rhythm disorder that is extremely rapiid and as a result the heart cannot pump effectively and can cause instant death. For reference the configuration shown on an EKG strip is a long QT and a syndrome (LQTS) and is an inherited disorder of the heart’s electrical system. Sorry for your loss! Hope the information helps you put the matter into a perspective. Thanks for your question and sharing. If you have any further questions or comments, you are invited to respond.
Avatar f tn I am suffering from depression but I have Long Qt and am obese , diabetic and have svt's my GP has been unable to find any medication that is suitable - do you have any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Citalipram is marked on the QT Drugs website as a drug that holds a strong possibility of causing QTc interval prolognation and the potentially lethal torsades de pointes. I would, thus, encourage you to talk to your doctor about looking into getting off that medicine.
Avatar m tn I don't think it's the earth that has changed, but as we eat more and more processed foods, our diets often lack magnesium, which can be found in unprocessed vegetables (especially leaves), whole grains, nuts, etc. That being said, I wouldn't be too optimistic to magnesium supplements as an antiarrhythmic.
571167 tn?1223214465 I FEEL LIKE I AMWALKING AROUND IN A BRAIN FOG 24/7. I HAVE BEEN ON METHADONE FOR 2 1/2 YEARS AND THIS STARTED 2 YEARS AGO!!! ANY THING WILL HELP!

Avatar m tn I have googled Clindamycin and found that there is a link between torsades and Clindamycin. Is this drug in the same family as Erythromycin? Should I be safe and stop taking it. I have been taking it for 4 days and have 1 day left. My infection, which wasn't very bad to start with, is now gone. I have been having an increase of bradycardia and PVCs and I am a bit concerned. I don't have an ICD. Thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn Ok, got it, the ".htm" didn't get included in the link address somehow. So, you can click on the link, and when you get a "not found" go to the address field and add ".htm" and hit return.
Avatar m tn This is going to explain the side effects of Geodon better than I even can and I take it and experienced some of them but mostly only during the adjustment period. Side effects occur differently for each person. http://bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/geodon/geodon-side-effects.

Avatar n tn I have been on methadone for 5 months now and my life has taken a 180. I do not ever want to be like I was 5 months ago. I work and I am a great mother again and I am dependable and proud of myself. I dont cry everynight wishing God would just take me I am praying Thank you to God every day all day. I recomend it totaly.
Avatar n tn I have started taking Methadone on occasion. This morning I took a 10mg Methadone and this evening I took 3 10mg Hydrocodones. I am experiencing a ton of breathing problems now. Does anybody know if this is a bad mix. I was taking 10-15 10mg vicodin a day. I know it has to be tearing up my liver. Does anyone else have a problem like this?
Avatar f tn I have already caught him once mixing klonopin and his methadone. But I am still very suspicious that he has do so over the week end at his parents house. I was just wondering if you could advise me as to what signs to watch for if I don't catch him right away. Like what the normal side effects within a day or two after that I would be looking for.
Avatar m tn Welcome to the forum---- I think the more important question is whether you really need the additional pain relief or or just wanting the effect of the additional Opiate. If you can withstand the pain by just taking your normal dose of Methadone, then don't take the Lortabs. Hope you will stay and post and read this site -- should you ever decide to come off of the Methadone, this is a great place to find help. All the best.
