My 26yr old son has a lump about the size of a nickel at the base of his skull. Says it doesn't bother him with constant pain, only when laying on it to sleep, or pushing on it. I've done some online research and found possibilities ranging from a virus to a tumor. Someone please help!!
I have a lump about the size of a golf ball at the base of my skull where my spine meets my head. It's been there for about 5-6 months. I never use to get headaches but get them daily now, about the same time of day (late afternoon till morning. It starts in my neck, then I get a very hot sensation shoot through my head into my eyes. After that (about 15 minutes) I get a shooting, throbbing, sharp pain through my head from neck to eyes.

I've noticed a lump at the back base of my skull on the left side. It's hard, extends from a little ways behind my L ear to the middle of my skull and bulges out like a big goose egg. I've had chronic ear problems, feel dizzy and light headed and also have quite a lot of head and neck pain and pain in the area of the "bulge". I saw a Dr. of Otology and Neurotology who said I need surgery on my ear due to a retracted ear drum and mastoid problems.
But, yesterday I noticed a painful spot (about pea-sized) at the left base of my skull, on the bony bump part right at the base. It feels like I got hit there really hard with something, and now its bruised and very sore. But I didnt hit my head there and I dont see a bruise. Its very sore to touch it, and now this morning, the tender area is even bigger. It doesnt feel physically any different than the other side. I have the same bony bump on the other side.
I went to the doctor today because the day before yesterday I noticed a small, hard lump under the skin at the base of my skull. Then last night I noticed another to the right of the first one. They are both small, hard, and do not hurt or move around when I push on them. I've also had frequent headaches, occasional double vision and dizzy spells, and sometimes trouble speaking. The doctor poked my head for a second, then said that they are lymph nodes and have always been there.

I have found a small painful lump at the base of my skull on the lower right side--just above the hair line on that bone right behind the ear---seemed to come up yesterday----no lesion or break in the skin or redness--just painful and slightly squishy--I have an appointment with dermatologist in about 2 weeks---does this seem like a dermatologist issue?
My girlfriend developed a relatively small lump on the back of her neck at the base of her skull just above her hairline about 3 inches from her right ear. It developed fairly recently. I am always rubbing her back and neck because she had been in a car accident a couple of years ago and experiences chronic back pain, and did not feel it until 2 days ago. It is not visible on the skin, is about the size of dime or nickel, and causes her pain if pressure is applied.

It is very painful when I put pressure on it and causes some dizziness/drowsiness. On the same side at base of my hairline I feel something that feels like swollen lymph nodes. Any ideas? During this time I have also noticed pain developing from the base of my neck up to the right side of my skull. The area of my skull that is in pain is slightly raised and hurt if I put pressure on it. There is also a small lump that provides a jolt of sharp pain if I touch it. The headaches keep getting worse and I am now even getting pain in my ears. Does anyone have a clue what is going on here?

I have noticed a lump on the left side of my head at the lower base. Just about the ear area. It has grown from a pea size to just a tad smaller than a quarter. It isn't painfull or reddened at all. I am in remission ( 3 1/2 ) yrs. now from breast cancer. My oncologist said it was probably a lymp node but didn't order and tests. I might add I saw him 3 weeks ago and it has doubled in size. What could this possible be? I'm worried my cancer is back.
I have also noticed a bit of stiffness in the muscle that goes from the base of the skull out to the shoulder, lately I have been doing some heavy lifting/somewhat strenuous activity - could the lump be tension related? Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.
Last night I noticed a lump on the back of my neck, on the right side, at the base of my skull. It's about the size of a penny and doesn't seem to be moving around or anything. It isn't real painful, only if I poke at it. I haven't had any visual issues, nor terrible headaches or nausea or anything. I had my family and a couple friends feel it and they all said it feels like a tension knot.
The top of my head has developed an elongated, boney buldge running on the top center, starting at the forehead and traveling backwards to the near back of the top of my skull. What is this? Should it be treated? This discussion is related to boney lump on skull.
It is under my hair, almost at the hair line, on the left side of my neck on what feels like the left muscle of the spine, at the base of the skull. I hadn't thought of it in a while, but more recently I have been getting massive debilitating migraines. That's why I decided to ask a question here. It is about the size of a dime, maybe slightly smaller. It is not directly painful, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it is contributing to my migraines.
But with in the last couple of months (6-7) I've been having headaches almost everyday. Most start in the back of my head, near the base of my skull and works it's way up towards the back of my eyeballs. On Saturday night, I went to bed w/ one of my usual headaches, and woke up with the same one. I went to rub the back of my neck and head, and noticed a lump on the left back side of my head. It hurts to put pressure on it. Since Sunday, it's grown in size and in pain.
When she was born she had a lump in the center of her skull that oozed . The doctors at that time thought it was an ingrown hair.So she was taking lots of antibiotic its never seemed to go away. Then she stopped taking them all together. It swelled the size of a baseball and burst. We were referaled to a dermatologist and he had started to cut in to remove it he noticed there was much more to this. So he stopped the removal and we were sent to a nuerosurgeon .
I'm not so excited about that, for sure. My problem with it all was that the way House described Chiari. The opening to the base of the skull is too small, and since he was given medication that made his brain swell, it plugged up the opening. Nothing about descending tonsils, herniation, or anything of the like. You'll need a surgery, sir... and will be moving around better than before the next day. blah. I really don't think it DID get the message anywhere.
Recently I have noticed a 'lump' on the right side of my spine at the base of my skull. I don't know how long it's been there, but the last couple of days my neck has been stiff. I'm not experiencing headaches. I'm just wondering what the most affordable approach to diagnosis might be...
