lump at the base of the skull

I'm wondering if anyone finds it painful and sensitive at the base of the skull. I use to put one of those doughnut pillows under my neck when I read. Now if I do it I get a painful, burning sensation from the pillow right at the base of my skull.

I am going thru menupause and the start of very low fatigue 2 years ago, I developed a neck ache at the base of my skull. I know my adrenale glands are not doing good thru the menupause. Taking dreamin for adrenals. Not doing much. But chiro saw that on my legs I had tender points and may have fibromyalgia. Gee now this plus menupause. Anyway. Dr.s do you know why I have the constant dull ache in back of neck? I did not injure neck at all.

About 3 years ago I noticed a hard mass at the base of my skull on the left side of my neck. Probably 1/2" large. I hadn't noticed it before. It wasn't painful, it was very hard, fixed, and circular shaped. I had my EMT father look at it, and he passed it off saying it just felt like I had an oddly shaped skull. So, I mostly forgot about it since it wasn't bothersome, and he didn't express concern. A year or so later, I noticed the same mass.

Hello, I have had severe migraines for the past couple of years that have become more severe and frequent within the past year. I have recently noticed a large lump at the base of my skull next to my spine that feels about the size of a quarter. I've noticed that my migraine pain starts around the lump and goes behind my left eye. Could this be a knot or something more serious?

i posted this in the maternal and child forum as well but figured i'd put it here too. so maybe i'm just being a little paranoid....but i was playing with brett and eli on the floor today when i noticed 2 large lumps/bumps on the back of bretts head at the base of the skull. i'm not sure if i should worry about it or not. he is still wobbly when he sits up and is learning how to stand up so he does fall and bump his head alot.

I've been having sharp pains at the base of my skull on the left side, they don't last long but they are very sharp, what can this be?

I went to the doctor today because the day before yesterday I noticed a small, hard lump under the skin at the base of my skull. Then last night I noticed another to the right of the first one. They are both small, hard, and do not hurt or move around when I push on them. I've also had frequent headaches, occasional double vision and dizzy spells, and sometimes trouble speaking. The doctor poked my head for a second, then said that they are lymph nodes and have always been there.

I have a lump on the right side of my skull at the base. It is a little bigger than a dime it is hard like bone and is only tinder around it like a bruse. i have not hit anything it just appeared, what could it be?

My girlfriend developed a relatively small lump on the back of her neck at the base of her skull just above her hairline about 3 inches from her right ear. It developed fairly recently. I am always rubbing her back and neck because she had been in a car accident a couple of years ago and experiences chronic back pain, and did not feel it until 2 days ago. It is not visible on the skin, is about the size of dime or nickel, and causes her pain if pressure is applied.

Last night I noticed a lump on the back of my neck, on the right side, at the base of my skull. It's about the size of a penny and doesn't seem to be moving around or anything. It isn't real painful, only if I poke at it. I haven't had any visual issues, nor terrible headaches or nausea or anything. I had my family and a couple friends feel it and they all said it feels like a tension knot.

i have had a soreness at the base of the left side of skull....and when I touch that spot, it feelsl ike a bruise! Also, I can trace the pain down that side of my neck, too! HELP???

I have a wallnut sized lump at the base of my skull. I noticed it a few days ago. It is not really sore but I know its there. another smaller lump appeared today...any ideas what this could be?

I was seeing an oestopath for treatment on my shoulder and she diagnosed a big muscle knot in my right shoulder, being the same side I get the migraines. She examined the lump at the base of the skull and said it felt like a muscle knot too. Hope this helps? PS Please read my earlier post re clenching and migraines.

About 2 weeks ago I noticed a lump under the skin to the righy of my shaft, it isn't on my shaft but it's exactly to the right of it and at the base and it's under the skin, it's kinda freaking me out.

What causes sharp shooting pain at the base of skull about an inch behind the left ear? It hits intermittently and travels up.

mine starts about mid neck, shoots straight up to the base of my skull and forks off to just behind and below both ears. my nl says that is atypical due to the center of the pain fork....it usually is just pain that will radiate towards one or both ears. there is constant pain in the neck area that never drops below a 7 on a 10 scale. my nl currently has me on topiramate 50mg and vicodin as needed when it gets unbearable.

Though it is very difficult to diagnose a lump without examination, I will try my best to list the possibilities and explain how each lump is diagnosed. In some people the occipital bone at the back of the skull has a protuberance. This is a normal finding and comes up in X-ray. Another normal finding is a protruding spine of cervical vertebra due to bad posture, again detected by X-ray.

First of all thank you so much for your reply, I do appreciate it. Secondly, I WAS diagnosed of Cervical Spondylosis and I was told to do the exercises and was also given a number of muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatory drugs, but most unfortunately none of them worked. The exercises did not have an effect, and neither did the drugs.

Has anyone tried The Melt Method to help with chronic pain and tightness that comes with chiari. I've read the book and so much of it makes sense. Having gone through the symptoms of chiari and feeling how the nervous system can malfunction personally it was interesting to read a book that described what has happened to my body as a result. I'm trying it and if in a few months time I feel it has helped I will re-post. I am a little over a year post up and feel up to it.
