Common Questions and Answers about Lexapro and generic

lexapro

1325193 tn?1450127436 I have found the generic Lexapro to be very good, and have only heard the usual side effects that all AD's have. But you should mention this to your doctor and see what he says. This all could be from your withdrawal or a combination of both, but you need to let your doctor know what is going on, if just for your peace of mind. Good luck in getting off the Vicodin, I wish you all the best.
1801781 tn?1461629469 Can I ask what country you live in. I'm asking because I also take Lexapro and live in the states. I was not aware that is now available in generic form. I'm hoping for this as I have no health insurance and the cost is really high with this med. Sorry I could'nt answer your question. I hope you do well on it.

Avatar f tn can anyone explain the difference between the brand name Lexapro and the generic brand? i was reading your posts. my boyfriend was on the brand name lexapro and switched to the chemical brand in June. since then he has been spriraling downhill, out of control is there that much of a difference in brand name and off brand?
176495 tn?1301280412 Hello...I'm currently taking 30mg lexapro a day and apparently there is no generic and I have to buy 1 bottle of 20 and one bottle of 10...
Avatar f tn Hi all I just found out Im pregnant. About 6 weeks. And I have been on the generic form of lexapro for anxiety and depression. My doctor made me get off of it 2 years ago with my last pregnancy and now i know once I tell him I am pregnant again it'll be the same response from him that I need to get off of my pill. Even though I will be a mesa without it. Any ladies on here on lexapro /escitalopram and pregnant?
Avatar n tn I doubt it. Escitalopram is the generic of Lexapro. I asked my psychiatrist if the generic works any differently, as every now and then you hear of generics not working quite as well. She said there is virtually no difference in the drugs, except for the fact that one is a brand name and one is a generic. However, I recently went through the same thing as you. I'd been on Lexapro for eight years and did so well on it, and out of the blue it stopped working.
Avatar n tn One difference is that Celexa is available in generic form and Lexapro is not which means theoretically generic Celexa (generic form) should be less costly. Lexapro and Celexa are not interchangeable, and they are not approved for all of the same uses. Both are approved for the treatment of depression. However, only Lexapro is approved to treat anxiety.
Avatar n tn There are many very good generic antidepressants. Call your doctor immediately, explain why you had to stop and ask for one to be prescribed for you. He knows you're not to stop this medication cold turkey, and doctors have become very understanding with today's economy that a lot of us cannot afford the brand names. I take a generic and it's works great! A month's worth will cost between $8 and $10. Take care.
Avatar n tn If you are stopping lexapro because you lost your insurance or something, you should talk to your doctor about switching to the anti-depressant citalopram, which is chemically related to lexapro, but is generic and much cheaper.

Avatar f tn Hi! I’ve been on lexapro ( the generic) for almost 3 weeks and my anxiety has been sky high. When can I expect some relief??
Avatar m tn My understanding is that Citapram is simply the generic form of Lexapro. My husband has cirrhosis and he was given the green light to take either (currently on Lexapro). It's made him feel better, though it's hard to say whether or not it's made him sleep better. Hope that helps.

Avatar n tn One, you can always ask your doc to give you samples when and if he has them. Also, just recently, a generic preparation of Lexapro was released to the market. You could inquire at some of your local pharmacies, see who makes it, if they can get it, and make sure your doc's Rx reflects that the generic option is acceptable. You can also call the manufacturer of Lexapro (or visit their website) and ask what your options are if you're having trouble paying for it.
Avatar m tn All that will lead to is you potentially feeling lousy. If and when you decide to come off the Lexapro, formulate a taper plan with your doctor, to come off the proper way and minimize any symptoms related to the discontinuation syndrome commonly seen with these meds. Good luck!
Avatar n tn There is no generic for Lexapro as far as I know. The generic you're probably talking about is an older drug from which Lexapro was derived, Celexa, but they aren't the same though they are similar. So two things probably happened -- because he didn't taper off Lexapro, he probably is suffering from withdrawal (even tapering can result in withdrawal from these meds) and possibly new side effects from the new med.
505677 tn?1263948093 my insurance did the same to me when I was taking lexapro and then they put me on the generic one, which made my symptoms worse, so I argued with them and they put me back on lexapro... but everyone is different to meds... Zoloft works for me...
Avatar n tn My problem is that I changed insurance companies and the new one doesnt want to pay for the Lexapro and decided to give me Celexa. I called them and was like WTH. Its been 3 days since I have been off and am starting to feel really depressed..Which is basically the only withdrawl symptom I have. I have been without it before, so know this. What I want to know is ...does anyone know how to deal with the insurance company. I take Lexapro for anxiety and Celexa is for depression.
Avatar f tn The Lexapro is so darn expensive, even with insurance $70/month!! Paxil has a generic so it should be cheaper but is it just as good? Anybody tried both and can compare? Side effects of the Paxil similar to Lex?
329994 tn?1301663248 My doctor explained to me that Lexapro and Celexa are almost the same drug but Lexapro is more concentrated. There is no generic for Lexapro at this time.
Avatar m tn Typical symptoms of depression/anxiety. The doctor then added 5mg of lexapro generic (Escitolopram) at night. This combo makes me feel much better, but sexual side effect of deleyed ejeculation even in small dose(5mg). Any advice? I never tried any other SSRI other then lexapro and Celexa. They all cause deleyed ejeculation as a side effect? Anybody has experienced other Ssri that doesn't cause as much as side effect as this two? Thank you.
Avatar m tn I took Lexapro for a while a few years ago but now my insurance won't cover it. At the time, there were sexual side effects too. Now my insurance covers Celexa. I tried Celexa and it was definitely not a good thing, threw me hypomanic/manic. If I could, I would take the Lexapro again and just take the medicine for the side effects (which are covered by my insurance!). I don't remember any weight gain on Lexapro either.
Avatar n tn There was no taper or anything and she fared fine. My problem is that Celexa is not the generic for Lexapro and some doctors still refer to it as being the same med.
Avatar f tn (1) Lexapro went generic and I started the generic and, (2) my patch was increased from 12 to 25. I can't think clearly I'm instantly angry. I have a very short fuse. I cry over everything and nothing. I've looked at the drug interactions and it seems they ALL have them (with each other). I cannot survive this depression but cannot survive the pain either. I am working with my whole medical entourage but wanted to see if anyone else is in a similar boat and has advice.
Avatar f tn I started 75 mg of generic wellbutrin 2 days ago and was wondering if anyone could tell me about there experience with this i suffer from anxiety and depression. I am having really bad anxiety and i dont know if it is from the medication or me worrying about taking it. How long does it take take effect? anything anyone could tell me would be great.
