Knee pain when pregnant

Common Questions and Answers about Knee pain when pregnant

knee-pain

I have a sharp pain in my right knee when kneeling down on it. It feels like I am kneeling on something, but there is nothing there. There is no swelling, and when my leg is straight, the pain is not there. It does not hurt when walking, going upstairs or any other activity other than when I kneel on it. Any ideas what could be causing this? I am 26 weeks pregnant, and this has been like this for about 4 weeks.
I am 35 weeks pregnant and I have had a lot of problems with my right knee. Yesterday when I was sitting and got up to walk....my knee suddenly unlocked and went out on me then I fell to my hands. Have anyone else experienced knee problems during pregnancy. I think it is because of my upper weight gain and my lower half can't hold it.
MY RIGHT KNEE GETS A TINGILY FEELING WHEN I AM PREGNANT...I CANT TELL THIS WHEN I SIT ON THE TOILET!
Although the pain doesn't show up when I poke or touch my knee, I can duplicate the pain when my knee is slightly bent and I press below the knee cap and rub to the painward side while still pressing. I almost thought it was a chipped bone at first, but now (because of the above) I think it is a collection of fluid and the pain is from the fluid trying to migrate to an area of muscle or tissue that doesn't want to separate. Some of you may be aware of how powerful hydraulic pressure can be.
I knelt down on my bed on my bad knee sort of to move my daughter and i got this excruciating pain and when i sat down i looked at it and i had an instant bruise there. So my question is.. is my knee broken or shattered or chipped to make it hurt and bruise like that? I have a 2 yr old and a 4 1/2 month old so if i need to see a doctor about this and need to take it easy i would really like to know what i am up against ya know. PLEASE HELP.
I am 29 weeks and lately I have been having really bad pain in my right knee and leg, mostly at night and in the early morning. I consulted my doctor when this happened about a month ago and she said most women complain of their ankles and feet hurting not their knees or legs. I have another appointment tomorrow, but wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this due to pregnancy or if anyone had any suggestions to help with the pain.
They gave me a brace thing when I was pregnant the first time but my bump was too big to be comfortable wearing it and it was hard to sit down. I just have to be careful with myself and try not to let myself overstretch. It goes back to normal pretty quickly after delivery.
It's been almost a year, and this last week I've been having constant headaches and break out sweating. There is a pain on my backside (by my right shoulder blade), and then today when I awoke, all my limbs felt very heavy and sore. By 11:00 I looked at my left knee and is it all swollen above the knee cap and on the right side and it hurts to move it.(it's my left knee). I have done nothing to injure myself. Is this just symptoms of anemia or could it be something completely different..
Its been four months after my operation but still my left knee is swollen, inflames and in pain. My thigh muscle is atrophied already and when you massage my knee there are mass of muscle on it. Please help me, i cant take any medicine coz i just found out i am 6 weeks pregnant. Help me please.
I have also noticed this for about the past week or so and I just found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant, so way earlier than you gals, but definately the same knee cap pain. When I have my knees bent for awhile they crack when I try to straiten them and then hurt for the rest of the day. If I wait a little and straighten them slowly they dont hurt as much but can still hurt for the rest of the day. Not hindering my sleep as of yet though.
It happens totally at random. It can happen when I am walking, sitting, sleeping, etc. When the pain is not occurring, my knee feels completely normal. When it happens, it usually happens every few seconds or minutes, then stops for several hours. I am not aware of any injury or unusual stress to that area. X-ray was normal and doctor's examination was clear. Any ideas?
Hi, Congratulation's that you are pregnant again. Keep yourself relaxed and enjoy our pregnancy. When any patient complains of “knee pain,” the initial differential diagnosis in most of the cases includes: Osteoarthritis, Ligament damage, Meniscus damage or Patello-femoral disorder. I think what you are having is either a ligament injury or a Patello-femoral disorder. When did your pain begin, what were you doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms?
Do you think this was a knee problem or just a symptom of my hip problem? When I was pregnant 2 yrs ago the pain completly went away also. Unfortunatly, I do not have health ins so I have not had all the care I need. I have went to physical therapy trying to strengthen and hopefully help the problem. It has helped but I'm so tired of constantly hurting and being unable to play with my kids the way I want to I need to decide what I should do now.
I had similar problems when I would run back in highschool. I had chronic pain that would present itself when I would run for about a mile fast or 3 miles at a slower pace. The pain was just left and below my lower abdominals (right around where my hips/legs make a crease). After about a year of trying to figure out what it was, I finally found out that it was a tight psoas muscle.
Hi Anni, Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post. But I am sorry to hear about your pain. Because I have pain in the same area I may not be as objective as someone else. I can point to the area that the pain originates from. If you can do this and your finger lands near or close to the sacroiliac joint (SIJ) you may have SIJ pain or dysfunction.
I normally sleep fetus style towards my right then during the night I changed to my left. When I tried to move the knee locked and is a pain that I just cried at loud. I normally flex it and then turned. It doesn't hurt anymore. The pain only last 1 min. I later on can turn myself right and left without a problem, taking care I turn my knee carefully. I never had surgery and I don't practice sports. I do ocasional exercise.
A couple of weeks ago my husband and I took our kids to an indoor water park resort and I had to climb the stairs many times to go down the slides after we returned home and after I went to bed my left knee dislocated (this dislocation has only happened one other time before, 10 years old when I was pregnant with my first child). It went back into place on its own so I put a brace on the stabilize it. After a couple of days it was feeling a lot better so I went with the brace.
Have a hard time standing up quickly also because the knee feels real weak, most of the pain feels like it is on the side of the knee and it is driving me nuts. My dad, who is a Dr, said it is probably the result of all the sports that I play and I should slow it down a little. Problem is, I have slowed it down and now I am gaining weight (catch 22 for sure) He guessed that I have cartilage (sp) damage in my knee and the only remedy is probably surgery. Any thoughts?
Ear itchiness - My ears itch, like they do when their infected, but they aren't infected as per my doctor's exam. Knee pain - This hasn't come back yet, but only my left knee would hurt, so bad that I was wearing a brace on it. Migraines - Anywhere from really bad headaches to actual migraines. Astigmatism - I've developed a slight astigmatism (which gets worse when other symptoms are present) during this whole ordeal.
We hire our Doctor's and we pay them just like we hire anyone else to provide a service for us. When the Doctor became unwilling to listen to you and listen that your pain wasn't being controlled it became clear he is not willing to help you. Do not get frustrated and feel like giving up, I know that it is easy to do that but there are very good PM Doctor's out there willing to help you and get your pain under control.
I had this exact pain last year. It started when I was pregnant and funnily enough (it's not funny I know) after I did some Yoga. I recall how desperate I was, I am quite a dramatic person anyway but I can honestly say that I did not think I was going to make it through the pregnancy because of this pain. I did however, it's now ten months later.
medical supply store, you should ask about the pregnancy belt. if your pain extends past your knee, it is likely sciatica, but if it stops at your knee or above it is Pelvic Girdle Pain. Chiropractor only helped for my sciatica. i had horrible Pelvic Girdle Pain, I literally would have to hold my legs together while trying to roll over in the night.
I'm a 45 year old male in Atlanta who has right buttocks pain and some lower right back pain, especially when sitting. Have seen an Orthopaedic/back pain management M.D. in Atlanta and he took an MRI of my lower back and said it looked normal...no bulging discs. He said it might be pirformis or SI joint related. Have had a pirformis injection, an SI joint radio frequency ablation (where they burn away the nerve endings) and have also gone to 3 months of therapy.
I know that charlie horses are very comon when your pregnant, i get them all the time at night when I am trying to sleep.
But it starts like I'm going to be sick and throw-up. From there its all labor pain syptoms (feel like I have to go to the bathroom, but can't, terrible back pain, and contractions so bad, my legs wont let me walk). I had a laparoscopy done to look for endometriosis and was told my female parts are heathly. Three weeks later I had an MRI done and was told I have a large amount of fluid on uterus and cysts on both ovaries. My ovaries feel sick most of the time.
Either way I am good when it comes to pain, but this is almost unbearable. When I lay down it is relieved, however, who can lay down all day. I work and go to school. So does anyone out there have any suggestions. I am desperate to relive this pain. Tylanol does help but how safe is it to take it everyday now??
I now currently weigh 208 lbs, and my forehead especially along with other small parts of my face began to break out with small little bumps, not to mention I feel extremely tired with little to no energy even when I've had plenty of rest. The excrutiating knee pain I've contributed to the rapid weight gain and my knees not being able to adjust to the extra weight, so squatting down and playing on the floor with my child is unbearable at times.
