knee pain after childbirth

Hey everyone, I am pregnant with my third child (about 17 weeks) with this pregnancy it has been one thing after another. First of all I have headaches everyday, now for about the last 5 hours or so, I've had a constant throbbing pain in my knee cap on my left leg. There is a bruised colored knot on the left side but that isn't where the pain is. The pain is around the bottom of the knee cap itself. I've tried a heating pad, ice, tylenol, etc. Not helping.

I think the recovery is going as expected and well-- I stopped pain meds Weds evening -- the surgery is great, the side effect are what are bad--bloating, gas pain (lessening as time goes), bowel pain and lack of movements. I again have a call into the dr for the dizziness....I drink copius amounts of water, walk and even get out so my circulation does well. What can be done for the dizziness. Any "magic" pill I can take....

I too said I didn't want children because of the pain but after me and my husband married in October, all I could think about was producing a child for us. Someone who would depend on us and bring us joy. I'm 13w2d now and I am terrified at the thought of childbirth but I don't let that fear consume me. If I carry this baby for 9+ months, surely 1 day or less of labor won't kill me. I'm just excited to see my baby in December!

Constipation is normal especially after child birth and pain medications can cause constipation too. Your OB should have put you on stool softener from day one. It is possible that you could increase your dosage of stool softener if it is prescription ask your dr if it is non prescription than read the back of the bottle for directions. You need to increase fluid intake especially water or prune juice. Avoid taking castor oil as it can stomach upset and horrible cramping.

That is tough as over time, much like when you have a baby, you do tend to forget the intenseness of the pain. For me, without a doubt, it would be my total colectomy in an emergency surgery after my bowel perforated due to ulcerative colitis. It was very touch and go as to whether I would make it. I was in the ICU for 4 weeks. When I woke up after the surgery I couldn't talk as I had a breathing tube down my throat. I was in intense pain and couldn't tell anyone.

In the last year I have had 5 excruciating attacks in my right knee, yet I've never injured my knee in any way. The episodes seem to come for no apparent reason and typically last for 3 days. The pain is so intense that I cannot work or even stand for those 3 days. In fact, I roll around moaning and screaming when the episode is at its peak. It feels like electric shocks which hit every 2-3 seconds during the 3-day attack.

I had my right knee TKR in June 2010, I cannot recall what the pain was pre-op, but I do know that it is very bad and has been since surgery. I have fairly good function with the knee and am able to do the work I love (I would be very depressed to lose that) but work is the whole of my life as it HURTS during the work day and it takes the rest of my day to 'recover' somewhat. I have pain in the night quite often and pain upon waking.

I have been experiencing terrible pain in my tailbone area, and also a little above. When i go to get up It takes about three goes and each time i get up a little further i cry out. At night my legs hurt terribly, a hot throbbing pain, all the way to my feet and sometimes it feels as if the skin on my legs are burning.

Dec 10th and just had my right knee manipulated Monday Feb 1 the Knee / Leg feels great much improvement. I have one problem pain/pain (left side of right knee) when I put pressure / weight on the Knee enough pain that I have to use my walker.I was walking before the manipulation. Using CPM machine with no major pain. I have not called my surgeon yet. Do not want to whin.

I hate to read you are suffering. A knee replacement is suppose to improve your function and it does not sound like that has been your experience. Have you talked to your doctor about your symptoms? Has he/she given you any feedback? I have not had a knee replaced but hope someone here who has will write to you. You might also post in the orthopedics forum as I know they talk about joint replacements there as well.

Hi JB, Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am glad that you have found us but very sorry to hear about your knee pain. In my personal opinion it is always best to get a second opinion when you have questions or are unsure what direction to go. It just can't hurt. Maybe he/she will have another option for you and a new set of eyes, experience and thoughts cannot be detrimental. "Bad knees" and TKR strongly run in my family. Each memeber has had a bit different experience.

When the anesthesia waned (after about 15 minutes I was sent to the ward) and the pain returned I started screaming with pain. It was extremely excruciating. The nurses scolded me since I was screaming. I was given some saline but not any pain relief. I was so thirsty and hungry since I hadn’t eaten the hole day. I couldn’t even move in the bed. Every move was very painful. The pain was unbearable.

I've recently started skateboarding again its been about 4 months and I usually skate at most twice a week. Lately I've been feeling pain on the outside of my right knee after about an hour of skating. I've realized I usually land on my right leg if I'm jumping off a trick that I know I'm not going to land and this happens repeatedly. My right leg is my front leg when skating so when I land on it I'm also stopping my forward movement.

I'm scared of childbirth. I am 37 weeks 4 days.I went to the doctors today and he said I'm 1 cm dialated and 75% effaced. This week or next the doctor thinks my baby girl will be here . I went to the childbirth class Sunday, it made me realize what to expect, but I know it will hurt. Any suggestions. Btw I'm getting an epidural.

ve broken my bones all over again, then add all of the other pains in my body to that, I can still push out a smile, I have learned to fake it and try to be nice to people, I can even laugh, but inside I want to kill something the pain is so bad. After years of pain, you just learn that most people even your doctor doesn't give a crap, it's just another dollar in their pocket. unless you are very lucky and find a doctor that actually cares.

When I bend the knee beyond 90 degrees I have a sharp pain on the lateral side of the knee cap. I have tried to be positive, but I don't see things getting better. It is very frustrating since I too thought things would be better than when I went in for the partials. It is like I have a tourniquet wrapped around my leg just below my knee. I ice every night and even heat pack for relief. I have tried five different PT's with not one knowing finding the answer.

im 17 and i have very extreme pain i gave birth in aug 2009 and i have crazy pain still to where im crawl up in a ball and cant move and need to push. also i never had the runs and now have them all the time and it is very painful when i go and i bleed. im not sure what the next thing to do because when i go to the doctor and they check me they say its and infection and treat me for it but i have had infections and none felt like these and the medications never do anything.

I agree with turkee, if you can't take that tiny little amount of pain, you aren't ready for sex, because there are BIG pains that come with that. Like when the first guy you ever have sex with leaves you. Now that hurts. Also childbirth.

My left was done in Janurary 2007 and my right knee was done in July 2007. Since the surgery I have had severe pain espically on the outside of the right knee. I have pain in both knees and limited movement in both. The pain has not gotten any better with time. I did have an injection of steroids about 6 months ago that helped some but things have not gotten any better since. Has anyone else had this sort of problem?
