I was previously on 12.5 mg of Coreg 2X a day for high blood pressure. I am also taking 10mg of Lexapro a day for anxiety. This caused me to become very fatigued and my doctor attributed it to the Coreg so he switched me to 10mg Norvasc every day (after weaning off the Coreg for 3 days). This was 2 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the same fatigue. How long does Coreg stay in your system after you stop taking it?
Group Therapy is a good bet until it kicks in full strength. Locate support groups in your community. Wherever you go to see your Psychiatrist, when you walk in the building, look for on on the bulletin boards for memos for support groups for Anxiety. If you see none, ask him/her. Or call and ask the secretary. Or look online. Your nearby hospital might have some. Possibly punching in your zipcode might turn-up one or two, maybe at a local community center or religious house. All good avenues.
I would take the anti-depressant and change to Klonopin. My doc told me the Klonopin is better because it stays in you blood longer. You might find you won't need the benzo if the AD works for your anixety. You WILL need to take one until the AD kicks in and that's for sure. I still take my Klonopin but take .25 almost daily. I will stop that soon though (I hope). I'm kind of using it as a muscle relaxer instead of for anxiety at this point.
I have never taken these two particular antidepressants together and there is nothing to indicate that they are contraindicated.
Like all meds, we each react to them differently, so even if someone has been on the same two, their experience may be entirely different than yours.

I too have battled anxiety for about 10-12 years. Think it was a result of my father passing away. I have a very low tolerance for drugs now since I had a brief stint of taking ecstasy pills around 2006! Once I stopped I couldn't take pills of any sort without being reminded of that dreadful time in my life. Since then, I've been prescribed Buspar for my on and off anxiety which I completely hated. I switched doctors and was given Klonopin.
You must know that those 2 drugs are short-term treatment until the Lexapro kicks in and you will have to go thru a withdrawal from Klonopin and Xanax since all you will need after several weeks is Lexapro.
You might ask you doctor to get rid of Xanax or Klonopin and adjust the dosage rather than mixing both. I see no point in mixing two kind of benzodiazepine. You question was is it safe to mix both.
I'm on day 7 of 10mg/day of lexapro right now. I'm keeping a daily log in my journals. So far I'm experiencing what I've since learned is typical for the 1'st week. Slight increase in anxiety (yes really) and I've had to take very low amounts of xanex to deal with it. But by all accounts this "should" level off over the next week or two.

How long were you on Lexapro when you first took it? It can make your anxiety worse for the first week or so, but then that goes away as your body starts adjusting to the medicine. It can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks for the medication to really feel like it's working. I'm currently taking 20mg of Lexapro and feel like it works for me. I'm also using Xanax (.25mg, 3 times a day, if needed).
I am going to increase the amount of fruit and vegetables in my diet and hopefully that will help. I was wondering how long until my stomach will be completely better? I've had enough of this now. I've lost a lot of weight, I'm very lethargic, I've hardly been sleeping and my stomach pains and the tightness of my chest and throat discomfort me. I know most of it is stinkin thinking because I focus on the anxiety. I missed more school because of it but I won't let myself miss anymore. I need to practice my positive thinking and breathing techniques. I also thinking when I see the therapist on Thursday will help.
Has anyone had any issues with nocturnal panic? Because that has been my most prominent issue lately.
I've been off Lexapro for 5 weeks. No, I didn't taper off correctly. I went from 10 mg for 3 years to 5 mg for 1 week, then I stopped. I know, I know this was not the thing to do. I've learned my lesson. I wake up every morning between 4:00-5:00 with stomach issues, anxiety, and heart pounding. I feel hot more of the time when I am having a spell. This morning I had the dry heaves for about 5 minutes. I am exhausted all of the time. I am finding it hard to function at work.
I like what Paxil and special mom said. I am on Effexor myself kind of similar to Paxil in terms of hard to come off of. I was put on it in a mental hospital so I didn't have too much choice. Anyway when I do start to come off of it I'm going to try to come off of it very slowly 10% at a time. That will cost me money I will have to go to a compound pharmacy because I cannot taper it down in 10% as it's made.

I asked if there will be any serious side effects and he told me "No". I read a few reviews and some people experienced weight gain.
