Common Questions and Answers about Estrogen and fibroids

Avatar f tn It seems odd to follow fibroid surgery with estrogen HRT (premarin and estrone are both types of estrogen) since estrogen causes fibroids to grow... You should call your doctor and ask when your period should start. I'm surprised your doctor did not tell you to use protection (condom, diaphragm) until you are ready to get pregnant since Premarin does not prevent pregnancy... I wish I could be of more assistance...
974298 tn?1324833193 I am 25 yr old who have been trying to get pregnant over the past few years with no luck, even though I did tests(HSG, long list of hormones and thyroid test, and progesterone test) that came back fine. How will these fibroids affect my chance of having a child, and what dietary steps can I take to combat them?
Avatar n tn I think i have found that high prolactin usually goes hand in hand with high estrogen, and high estrogen can cause fibroids. I am 30 and facing needing a hysterectomy due to 4 LARGE fibroids which the docs keep telling me, "some people just grow them" without really ever checking any further. I am on a mission of sorts to learn what I can as this response does not sit well with me and i feel there has to be a root cause. HELP!
Avatar n tn I have read that too much estrogen causes fibroids, and that hormones can contribute to anxiety. (PMS) I also started to have panic attacks a few months after starting the BC pill and have wondered if that was the cause.
1676653 tn?1391039945 There are things you can do to lower your estrogen levels (estrogen dominance is one of the causes of fibroids) in your diet, etc, to help to minimize the growth and effect of the fibroids. Before I got pregnant I was taking vitex (chasteberry) to increase progesterone and minimize estrogen -- after about 3 months my menstrual cramps, which before that were dibilitating!, disappeared. If you want to talk fibroids more feel free to send me a message.
Avatar f tn Hello jkmanue, I'm sorry to hear about your struggles, I can definitely relate. Have you tried Advil for the cramps, it used to help me. That's just terrible that after surgery, it seems like new fibroids are growing again. That was my Drs concern as well so that's why he opted for NuvaRing before trying surgery. I've been doing some research on fibroids and supposedly its multifactorial (many causes) but one major reason is that there is genetic predisposition for fibroids.
Avatar f tn I didnt have fibroids but i did have endo and adenomyosis...and cysts on the right ovary..after some consideration I opted for a hysterectomy..the pain from the andeo and cysts was really interfering with my life..it ended up being a good decision because my ovary was engulfed in scar tissue and attached to my bowels... Honestly its quite a decision and the medically induced menopause is not easy..you are at the age of approaching menopause anyways..atleast peri or pre menopause..
Avatar f tn Hi, there is an excellent book called overcoming your thyroid disorder that will be helpful to answering your questions. I have fibroids and extreme periods, and have hd this for years. My GP and GYN said I could either have a hysterectomy or wait out menopause (I was 38 when given these educated options) so went seeking other options.
Avatar f tn m sorry momma. I have cysts and 2 fibroids. I get more pain from the cysts then fibroids though. I was debating a vbaC but I had.one doctor say I couldn't bc of my fibroid placement and another said it wouldn't be a problem. Just curious how far are you and did they say anything about having to have a c section bc of the fibroids?
Avatar n tn Many women will decide upon the hysterectomy because they cannot stand the heavy bleeding anymore or the fibroids keep enlarging and cause more problems. A lot of women are prepared to simply deal with the longer and heavier periods until their bodies adjust and lower the levels of estrogen naturally...or....they ask about going on Progesterone/combo pills to balance out the estrogen dominance which fibroids feed off of as you likely already know.
Avatar f tn Hello my dear I am 9 years older than you but started noticing changes in my monthly,s at the age of 39. You are the right age for all these changes but i would check to see if your thyroid is working because i discovered i had hypothyroidism at the age of 46 by accident. Ask your GP for a full blood test to rule out underactive thyroid. I am the same height as you and i am over weight and the thyroid issue does not help even with the medication.
Avatar f tn Talk to your doc about your estrogen levels.....thats what makes fibroids bigger......and see where you are at. If you are trying to have children this may or maynot affect getting pregnant but be aware of what you have going on so it can be addressed w/your doctor.
Avatar f tn My doctors have told me that I was menopausal becasue I had not had a period in 2 and a half years. Now he is telling me that my tests show that I am still making estrogen and am perimenopausal. Can this happen? He did a uterine biopsy which was normal. Some thickening of the uterus and fibroids. I have never heard of going "backwards." He wants me to go back on the Ayestin for several months on a daily basis, but I don't want to go on hormones because my mother had breast cancer.
Avatar m tn Contour is lumpy. Two of the larger fibroids are about 1.9 and 1.7cm and 2.3cm in diameter. endomitrial thickness 4-5 in thickness The left ovary contains a few very small cysts, left ovary 2.3x1.7x1.5.cm The right ovary contains a small cyst, right ovary 3.8x2.9. 2.
Avatar f tn I went back on my bio-identical progesterone to balance out things, and so that it doesn’t grow my fibroids. Maybe that’s why.
Avatar f tn Hi - I'm so sorry for your loss! I had a loss at the beginning of the second trimester and then went on to get pregnant/deliver successfully twice afterward. I had fibroids during all 3 of those pregnancies. The fibroids did not contribute to my loss. I've always read the opposite - that fibroids grow due to estrogen dominance, and in my experience, that is true in that mine always grow during pregnancy and shrink afterwards. Do you know what type of fibroid you have?
Avatar f tn I am also a 43 year and have 2) 3-4cm Fibroids and many smaller ones. Heavy cycles sometimes and major bloating, but constant bleeding. I have a period about every 2 weeks that last about 11 days ea time. Not Fun!! I am a relatively lean person but look pregnant half of each month due to the bloating. My doctor recommended a hysterectomy after 2 years of trying to control my bleeding with bio-identical hormones.
Avatar f tn I have had ovarian cancer and had a complete hysterectomy and both ovaries removed at age 37. In my opinion, if you are done having children and your doctor feels your estrogen is causing a great cancer risk, then this surgery is a good option. Many women who are carriers of breast/ovarian cancer syndrome genes, opt to have this surgery to reduce their risk of ovarian and breast cancer. Studies have shown that it does reduce your risk. But, it is a very personal decision.
Avatar n tn I ended up taking 4 pregnancy test and all were negative, so we thought I might have an ectopic pregnancy, so I went and took an ultrasound and found out that I have a cyst on my ovaries and fibroids on my uterus and all they prescribed me was birth control pills with progesterone. I will start taking them Sun. but I still have not had a period, could something else be wrong...
Avatar f tn Fibroids are very common and typically do not need any treatment. They can cause irregular or heavier bleeding. If that is a concern, there are treatments to reduce and regulate bleeding.
Avatar n tn She removed the fibroids along with my right ovary and fallopian tube (unilateral salpingo oophorectomy). My left ovary and fallopian tube was untouched and completely normal. I also wanted to mention that my doctor sent me for a AMH test (Anti Mullerian Hormone) and my level was in optimal range. The level of AMH in a woman's blood is generally a good indicator of her ovarian reserve. I am now three weeks post-op and doing very well in my recovery.
Avatar f tn I started to bleed more havely than I normally do after taking the pill for two weeks and my fibroids grew 2 cm-s since January. Cab fibroids grow so much in two months? Can it be becasue of the progesterone only pill?
Avatar f tn Thyroid hormones and estrogen go hand-in-hand for many of us. I was just the opposite - had an ovary removed for PCOS in '96, thyroid cancer in '03, other ovary removed for PCOS (huge, hemorrhagic cysts) in '06 and ongoing fibrocystic breast disease. All are fed by hormones (either thyroid hormones or estrogen) and many, many of us on the forum have these problems.
