Effexor with alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Effexor with alcohol

effexor

Avatar f tn t recommend you do it, it is my own personal experience and everyone is different and can react differently but if you really about to drink alcohol with your Effexor please do it with moderation and drink some water along and use light beer.
Avatar n tn Must agree with WaveRider - have been on Effexor for a while now and Alcohol defintely does not mix, no matter how little.
Avatar f tn I will however agree with you that the days after having fun and drinking copious amounts of alcohol can leave you feeling down and anxious. I suffer with anxiety, so when I drink, i'm miserable for typically a few days afterwards. So while drinking may seem like fun while you're enjoying your night, just remember how you're going to feel the following day. I also think depending on how much you drink, you definitely will experience negative reactions.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry to hear of your father's passing. I had major issues with Effexor, but I have to say, many benefit from the drug, like any drug it works well for some not for others. The med itself doesn't make you gain weight per se. Chances are you were/are emotionally eating, so I'm taking a wild stab that the med hasn't helped you all that much. It happened to me when my depression wasn't controllled enough either, but this is solely my experience.
Avatar m tn i don't know whether you take antidepressants. i do and i am on effexor and i have fatty liver caused by effexor xr. I don't drink alcohol and iam only 26.
Avatar f tn Your liver enzyme levels are outside of the normal range which suggest some sort of issue involving your liver. There are many potential causes from medication your are taking to hepatitis. You should schedule a followup visit with your doctor or preferably a specialist to figure out what is going on. You should not just ignore this or assume it will go away.
Avatar m tn My main concern is with the interaction that taking the Effexor could have with the marijuana. I am willing to stop smoking if the interaction is bad, but that would pretty much force me to start taking 800mg Ibuprofen 3 times a day for my back pain, and I honestly don't know which one would be worse. I do not smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol AT ALL.
Avatar n tn Over that time I developed an alcohol problem. Since then I quit alcohol without a problem, however, I am currently in the midst of a major depressive episode due to a break up of a relationship. I went off Effexor 6 months ago and my doctor put me on 150 mg of the Zoloft generic and also started me on Wellbutrin generic. I find that I get the same daily trends as far as anxiety and depression. I don't know if it's related to an aftermath of my drinking or if it can be from the meds.
Avatar f tn If you are taking both Effexor and Xanax, alcohol, especially when consumed in a 9 day binge style, is the same as playing Russian Roulette. When you say you've heard that it can take several weeks to return to normal, are you referring to the mixing of high potency psychotropic meds and drinking? I would think, as did rls, that if it's been 6 weeks since you've had a drink, you should not be feeling this way. How long have you been on the Effexor? Bottom line?
404138 tn?1308941656 I did really well one day I went to the mall with my bf...and I was okay, my anxiety was ok and therefore I didnt go running for a drink. I feel horrible. Like a horrible person, but I feel so much better when I do it but then afterwards I have SOOO much guilt. I dont know how else to feel ok.please help I dont want to keep going down this path.
4757133 tn?1358797625 From what I have read there could be some serious liver problems with that combo. I have included a link to a site on effexor that gives a lot more info then you will find in most places. http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Effexor I was a little surprised to see you also taking wellbutrin, as they attack the same problems. But one of the posts in the above linked talked about how that combo was apparently pretty good.
Avatar m tn My experience with Effexor was not good. For the first two weeks, I became hyper-anxious and paranoid, and my benzo dose was increased to counteract. Once I 'settled in' to the Effexor, I would say it was 'effective' at settling my depression but at a great cost. I became narcoleptic and I gained a tremendous amount of weight in a very short time (from a health 180 pounds to 218 pounds in about 8 months.
Avatar n tn m wondering if maybe Effexor XR is too strong for me and maybe just the regular Effexor would be more suitable? I like the fact that I'm wired and on task all day, but the headaches aren't fun. My therapist says that if cutting my dose down on the Effexor XR resolves the headaches then she has to take me off of it altogether. Do you have any insight on this med, or perhaps suggest something else. I am afraid of staring a med that makes me feel lethargic, I have to be on task.
Avatar m tn I've been on Effexor for 18 months and was on 150mg, I dropped to 75mg around 5 months ago and have felt very bad since. Ongoing sinus problems, Blocked nose, headaches etc. 8 Weeks ago I dropped to 37.5mg a day, then after 4 weeks started breaking the pills in half. As I have Fybromyalgia I was advised to switch to Duloxetine as it would help the pain from Fybromyalgia as well as having Anti Anxiety / Depression benefits.
1008841 tn?1293598960 Use in Patients with Concomitant Illness Clinical experience with Effexor in patients with concomitant systemic illness is limited. Caution is advised in administering Effexor to patients with diseases or conditions that could affect hemodynamic responses or metabolism." Such as cirrhosis and portal hypertension.
Avatar m tn So I have been dealing with the alcohol withdrawal symptoms for 3 months and now after 100 days (On Thursday) and I am moving on to the next thing. So I have several 100 day plans, as I call them. 1) Effexor. 2) Lose my belly 3) Stop smoking 4) Become RULER OF THE WORLD ... erm no .. that should say "curb my meglomanical tendencies" - or is that the Effexor ;) Of course AA says "Easy does it" - but like I said I am a bit impatient, but will listen to my body.
Avatar m tn I myself am currently going through a somewhat difficult introductory period (intense fatigue and mild nausea) with a new anti-depressant (the successor to Effexor) and plan to continue with it for some time. After all, the product information says it typically 3-4 weeks to begin to work. At least two antidepressants I have taken in the past were initially quite unpleasant but turned out to be very effective...for a while.
Avatar m tn HEY GUYS ANYONE WHO IS SUFFERING FROM WITHDRAWAL FROM EFFEXOR, FIRST WEAN DOWN TO 37.5. I'VE BEEN FINALLY OFF EFFEXOR COMPLETELY AFTER TAKING IT FOR 6 MONTHS. AFTER I GOT DOWN TO 37.5 MY DOCTOR TOLD ME TO TAKE NOTHING, AND I WAS HAVING UNBEARABLE WITHDRAWL SUCH AS SENSATIONS IN MY HEAD AND FACE, AND "BRAIN ZAPS". SO I DECIDED TO GO BACK AND HE ACTUALLY GAVE ME 10MG OF PROZAC TO OFFSET THE WITHRAWL FROM THE EFFEXOR AND IT WORKED!. HE TOLD ME TO TAKE ONE DAY OF 37.
Avatar m tn Having both worked very well for me. As the Effexor kicked in we weaned off the Valium. I took Effexor 75 mg for three years with very good results (I promise I will get to Prisiq soon.) It did not make me feel immediately better but gradually over time, I realized that I was not constantly worrying about things. I no longer have thoughts that my airplane is going to crash when I go on vacation (three months prior to the trip!). The intial side effects were extreme dry mouth and sweating.
