411389 tn?1230128077 Suicidal thoughts, awful and constant negative rumination, self-confidence all but shattered, increasing social isolation, and just watching a gradual shut-down. When I started with Effexor, I had side effects after the first half an hour. Everyone is different, but there was absolutely no mistaking it's immediate effects. I started on 75 mg a day for two weeks, then up to 150 mg a day.
Avatar n tn So, Wyeth pharmaceuticals has found another application for its SSRI Effexor. How effexor will affect your insomnia is anyone's guess. Sone people find effexor helps with sleep, other find it aggravates their insomnia. It is not recommended that you discontinue effexor abruptly. I discontinued paxil after 10 yrs of daily use, so I know what discontinuation syndrome is all about.
Avatar f tn Hi. I was wondering if anyone has ever had negative side effects from drinking beer while on Effexor XR. I recently went on vacation and drank beer for 11 days straight. A few times I got pretty drunk. Since then, I have been depressed and feel like my medication is not even working. I believe the beer nullified the effects of my Effexor XR. It has been 2 weeks now since I have drank anything and still feel that depressive, blue, unable to concentrate or make decisions feeling.
Avatar f tn Anyway, I'd like to have an ocassional drink, but the bottle directions for Effexor say not to mix with alcohol. What are the side effects, like if I wanted just a glass or two of wine? Not to be a ninny, but I don't want to have any complications. Usually I'd just ignore the warning, but the warnings seem particularly strong. Also, is it common to have no interest in the opposite sex, while taking this? I really like being back among the living, but my husband is not so happy about this part.
Avatar n tn i have been taking effexor for about four years and i find the drug has made me a new person, but if i miss a dose i have severe withdrawls.it feels like i am living in hell.but when i get back on track i feel great.since i started taking these meds, i have put on 40 pounds and i eat very little.and if i try to wean my self down to a lower dose the side effects start all over again.my doctor told me i will probably be on this for the rest of my life.
Avatar n tn 1 1/2 yrs ago. After radiation her oncologist started her on tamoxifen. She has had severe side effects since taking the drug. The most significant is the hot flashes or "night sweats" she experiences, which cause her to have only 2-3 hours of sleep each night. She's taken effexor with no results. Is there some other course of treatment she should be asking her MD to explore?
Avatar n tn I've been on it for over a year now so a 25mg change doesn't give me all the horrible side effects. But all of these types of medications all had the same side effects for me until I was on a constant daily dosage and DID NOT miss a dose, or drink alcohol. I still get the odd migrane and have horrible hot flashes, but having the feeling of being somewhat "normal" was better and safer for me. Perservere through the side effects and you'll eventually feel good.
Avatar n tn The headache specialist wanted me to hike up my Effexor dose to treat them, but when I said no to that he suggested that I switch to Savella which does NOT have the sexual side effects which Effexor has. He said that he went through terrible pain from stopping the Effexor. He has a gradual plan for me to stop the Effexor as I increase the Savella. BUT he said that if I felt like "I was going to die", to hike up the Effexor during the change over.
Avatar n tn So short question REALLY long what are the effects of this drug on alcohol or someone who has a drinking problem and is there any kind of encouragment for someone that is scared of the withdrawl symptoms. Also, are there any anti-depressants that might help not hurt someone with a drinking problem?
Avatar m tn I have been on zoloft for two weeks and the side effects are still pretty bad, without any benefits (it seems like it has been two years!). (I have tried lexapro, paxil, and celexa, but zoloft was the first AD I have taken and from my first experience seemed to produce the least side effects for me (although this time seems bad). I know it takes awhile for SSRI's to get working and initial side effects are common. I started taking 25mgs for a week and have been on 50mgs for a week.
Avatar n tn Anti-anxiety medications (xanax, valium, ativan, buspar) mix with alcohol to intensify the effects, so if your on these, I would limit myself to 1 at the absolute most. Did I answer everything?
Avatar n tn I am sorry to hear of your issues with stopping effexor. Have you searched the board to see what others have experienced in going off effexor? I am so weary of RXs because of the Drs. lack of knowledge/side effects/body chemistry...it seems like a pharmacist will truly know & us when we sift through numerous others' experiences that they share online. I hope you can find a way to stop effexor in a way that you are not effected or minimally effected by withdrawal symptoms!
Avatar n tn It has been a godsend and tho I have a few of the side effects, they never come up unless I miss a dose. I recently lost my job and can no longer afford my medication so I'm having to go 'cold turkey'. This is my 3rd day without it and I'm doin ok. a little dizzy and a 'muggy' feeling in my head but I know it gets worse, I've missed as many as 4 before and I know I need to literally crawl in bed and lock my door until the worst is over. But....FOR HOW LONG??
4753943 tn?1359938169 (I know how rough they are because I've kicked Vicodin for a couple days before without knowing that there are side effects to doing so) With the Effexor I suppose I could consider doing it a bit slower because the advice everyone is giving is kind of freaking me out and putting things in to perspective. It sounds good to me now but I can't speak for how I will be feeling when I actually start going through it. Was it only doing each dose for one week that is too fast?
Avatar n tn Actually I should just say I am stoping the medication cold turkey, since I am just not taking any pills at all each day. Yes, there are side effects. Are the side effects so severe that a person cannot tolerate them? Absolutely not. You need to tough it out, get this drug out of your system, and start exercising 5 times a week, especially cardiovascular exercise. Don't listen to all these doctors who tell you Effexor is the answer to your problems. It absolutely is not the answer.
Avatar f tn I only came off it because of the weight gain. But I don't care so much about it now. I have no side effects with Effexor, and my 150mg dose suits me. Prozac was really, REALLY bad for me. Never again. So you see, different drugs for different people. Effexor for me is great. I will not stop it again. All I can say is, we have to try different anti-depressants to find the one that suits us best. I have had bad reactions with others, but I don't with Effexor.
Avatar n tn The Lipitor and Xanax weren't that hard, no major side effects. But I was totally not prepared for the hell getting off Effexor. I applaud each and every one of you for trying to quit this thing. I think that if you have depression and anxiety, as I have had, that sometimes you just have to change your life. You can't just keep taking a pill. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have this feeling that I don't ever want to take another pill again, even if I drop dead. At least I will die with dignity.
Avatar n tn (Weight gain, loss of sexual interest, and meds not working). I'm feeling like the side effects (and lack of effect) is just depressing me more. It makes me feel like there's no point in being on the med. Also, does anyone have any experience with/advice about the dexadrine? Thanks so much.
Avatar n tn Hey Babyblue, I am thinking about getting mirena... but there seems to be so many bad side effects people are experiencing.. did you have any side effects at all?
Avatar n tn Struggling with alcohol is one of the side effects you are supposed to report to you Dr. Whichever one works on you is the better one.
Avatar f tn 3) What should doctor follow up during treatment and how often? 4) What side effects are likely? 5) I have in addition to depression Panic attack. Panic anxiety has been completely lost during treatment with Efexor. Could Wellbutrin cause that panic comes back ?(since Wellbutrin is activating) 6) Does there excist studies that show efficacy / sideeffects of the combination of Efexor and Wellbutrin? 7)How are my risks aty getting seizures with this combo?
Avatar m tn First off, they both mess with serotonin in you brain. And weed makes you depressed, so your Effexor will have major side effects. Tell your doctor you want proproxiphine (darvecet) for your back pain and you wont need the marijuana anymore. That should fix your problems.
Avatar n tn I've always had bad sexual side effects..extremely low libido with Effexor, but just deal with it...but suddenly for the last week and a half I feel EXTREMELY depressed for a day, then the next day I'm fine, then unbelievable depressed again. It's horrible, I try to look happy for my 2 year old even when I'm crying I try to hide it, so as not to effect the baby, but It's hard to hide it from my husband.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else experienced these delayed, long-term withdrawal effects from Effexor? If so, did they ever go away? I'm scheduled for an MRI of my brain to rule out anything more serious such as ALS. If my tests come back o.k., the doctor mentioned putting me back on Effexor and then weaning me off of it very slowly to see if that gets rid of everything, but I'm afraid to go back on it in case it just makes everything worse.
737515 tn?1252556023 Which medications used to treat anxiety have the least chance of causing weight gain as a side effect? More importantly what medication has the least reported side effects. The idea of having side effects from medicine makes me want to stop them completely. I have taken Zoloft to have nothing but bad side effects and now Im on Sinequan now but I have read weight gain is a side effect of it :( Anyone with any help would be great.
Avatar m tn Is there a way of testing serotonin levels (can too much serotonin cause these side effects?). I can't even do simple math in my head anymore. To be honest, I'm really hoping it's the antidepressants, anything else is just too scarey. Please, any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated, and I thank you for your time and assistance...
Avatar m tn You have been on Effexor quite a long time and this med is known to have severe withdrawal symptoms so I think the tappering was extremly quick in your case and should have been smoother to experience less withdrawal symptoms. That been said you have the choice to get your med back and do a smoother tappering or endure this for a while but it is not very likely that it could last years. The brain shivers should not last more than 1 to 2 months in my humble opinion.
Avatar n tn Reading about the side effects of coming off of Effexor scares me to death. I will begin tapering off of this drug tonight... dropping my dosage to 37.5 mg for one week and then off for good. I am in the process of interviewing for a new job and I'm totally freaked out because I am afraid the side effects will effect my ability to sell myself in a positive way. What if I forget what to say or start to shake?
