Common Questions and Answers about Diabetic recipes low potassium

diabetes

Avatar m tn I would talk to your nephrologist about going to see a dietician. They can help you with meal planning. DaVita is a kidney website with a great recipe booklet and they list potassium in their foods. Even if you don't use the recipes it should give you ideas on what types of foods are okay to use. Like for example they use apples a lot so I imagine they are low potassium. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Thanks!! I will try all of those.
Avatar f tn Anyone know of any good websites with diabetic friendly recipes? My mom has diabetes and I'm trying to help her out with a few meals.

Avatar n tn //tinyurl.com/atkins-recipes . Replace sugar with artificial sweeteners such as Splenda or Stevia. Also, avoid starchy foods like potatoes, rice, and any foods made with white flour - white bread, crackers, pasta/noodles - as these turn quickly into sugar after eating. Post back if you have further questions.
Avatar m tn HI I am 58 years old, Once my potassium level was increased from 5 to 7.7 within 24 hrs. my doctor suggested to undergo dialysis an dafter 3 dialysis my potassium level is normal and i have a creatinine level of 3.4 it was maintained the same creatinine for 3 days after stopping dialysis.. so i am worried abt the dialysis and how can i keep myself the creatinine level and the K level low in the blood . any suggestions plz..
Avatar n tn 2 should probably have their potassium channel genes analyzed because , insulin LOWERS potassium and this causes the arhythmias as well as the ACTH and epinephrine response to the drop of sugar levels. atrial fibrillation can have adverse events and you should LOOK AT YOUR GTT test more carefully . do you have an increase of INSULIN in response to eating sugar, ? IF so GET YOUR POTASSIUM GENES ANALYZED. high insulin spikes after sugar indicate this problem and it is NOT insulin resistance.
Avatar f tn My grandpa broke his hip, and while in the hospital, they uncovered that he is diabetic. Apparently, his doctor has known for a while that he was insaline resistant and pre-diabetic, but "didn't think it was a problem". So we're trying to help my grandma (who is 73) to take care with her cooking when (if) he gets out of the nursing home. I appriciate all the help I can get!
369861 tn?1306275686 I am right now hypothyroid and hypoglycemic along with low potassium which hospitalized me this week. Please tell me there is help for me here or point me in the right direction. I'm being told that I need to eat 5-6 small meals a day. More protien than starches. I'm not a big eater but I seem to retain the weight no matter what I do. The big gain started about 2 years ago. Any ideas on how to handle the two issues at one time.
Avatar n tn All of your values are a bit low, but the potassium is of most concern. Low levels of potassium, an electrolyte, can cause many symptoms: * Muscle cramps/aches * Fatigue, malaise and intermittent dizziness * Abnormal heart rhythms if the deficiency is not corrected (known medically as arrhythmia) Your symptoms could be due to lower than normal potassium and sodium. I advise seeing that same MD for follow up.
Avatar f tn org they have great budget friendly recipes. And switch out sugar for splenda or sweet n low wherever you can.
1666434 tn?1325262350 I thought it might be helpful if we made a thread that shared some of your favorite diabetic safe recipes. This can just be something you make yourself all the time or a recipe you converted to be safe.
Avatar m tn You have a lot of risk factors so I would start taking care of your kidneys now. Low salt diet, avoid potassium rich foods like potatoes and tomatoes and dark colored pop - except rootbeer is okay, and keep your protein moderate (no more protein than the size of your closed fist - two times a day). (if you google you can find the whole list). And keeping your high blood pressure under control. If you haven't already an appointment with a nephrologist may be in order.
938718 tn?1323783514 Well, I guess I procrastinated too long LOL! They called me... I tested positive for GD too... so were in the same boat girly... but thats ok... we can get through this together!!
214529 tn?1333303619 I have been taking a 10mg tablet of Klor Con for low potassium for a little over a week now. My level was 3.2 and normal is 3.5 to 5.0. When should I have my levels checked again and should I stop taking it since my level was not that low. The pills are huge and it hurts my stomach.
1500525 tn?1458529998 Hi, I'm 43 & in hospice bcuz of CHF. Lately, I haven't been able to hold anything down. I'm not dehydrated (IV in the arm) but I'm extremely thirsty, and it seems nothing quenches my thirst after I take a drink I actually feel more thirsty. And when my mouth gets so dry like extremely dry, I get nausea, dry heave, then up comes bile ( the same thing is happening out the other end & same color/no smell I am told) I'm guessing that's bile too.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've been living with bulimia for nearly three years now and two weeks ago was struck down with a strange feeling of what I can only describe as "wobbly" weak-feeling legs, and also just a general weakness in my body. It is as if my legs are detached from the rest of my body. This made me feel dizzy, and anxious of going out in case I might fall.
