every woman's body is different and the effects can be more or less severe. depo was first invented to chemically castrate sex offenders....i think that is what bothers me the most....and i wondered why i lost my sex drive. it was also use for chemotherapy for cancer patients....i had to wonder if that is why when i got PG on it i m/c'ed. my OB at the time said yes and depo was the cause of my m/c's. for those woman out there who have had little to no side effects...
I didnt kno anything about Depo before I took it either,I was much like Joodytuesday But I was on Depo-Provera after my first son was born and had the shot 3 times. I did not gain any weight however, I did have never-ending periods that lasted about 3 weeks or more or It would stop and I would have multiple periods per month.Basically I was always on my period!

I look forward to getting my body back again! My BF didn't know it was the Depo making me fat, so while I was on depo provera I starved myself on strict diets, exercised like crazy,Went to a hollywood weight loss doc, took HCG weight loss shots and prescription weight loss pills, even cut out fats, lowered my calories to 500 a day, and GAINED WEIGHT! My GYN told me the Depo was making me fat. Told me to to stop it ASAP and stop eating any white foods(no sugar, potatoes, bread, and esp.
i'd even get killer migraine headaches around the time I would have had a period had the Depo not stopped it. personally- I'd never take Depo Provera again, but some people swear by it.
It took me two years after coming off depo to have a period and that was after using wild yam (natural estrogen) cream for about 6 months - depo screws up your system - I only found out after I had been on it for a year that this is what they give to chemically castrate men! Go figure - last time I ever believed my doctor without doing research! Good luck!
But I will say that it is best not to make major decisions during a state of depression. The drug given to sexual offenders is called Depo-Provera. It is actually a birth-control drug that decreases the amount of testosterone in the body. Apparently the reduction in libido disappears when the drug is stopped, so you shouldn't have any permanent damage from it. You will have to speak with your doctor about the possibility of using this medication.
The doc then sent me to a fertility doc in Shreveport and I had to take depo lupron (back then I heard it was used to chemically castrate men and used to put women in chemical menopause) and I had to take 6 months of that shot. It did not stop the bleeding and that doctor told me (a 17 year old) that the treatment failed and the only thing that could help me was to get pregnant (if I could, which he doubted).
And i hate to say it but my DH could be right all the chemicals they are putting in B/C is really bad and something like this could just possibly happen one day!! Ok thats my input and gripe!! Feel free to read the article and post comments!! But PLEASE let's be MedHelp friendly no being rude or yelling or insulting!! We are just opinionating here!!
Provera is medroxy-progesterone, an old birth control pill and is also in the form of depo-provera which is a 3 month form of birth control. It is used in men to chemically castrate in the event of deviant behavior or medical reasons.
Depo Provera or Androcur will take your drive away, but be careful, the effects of chemical castration can be bad, depression, mood swings, heat flashes, etc. Women can have low estrogen too and i find its a better solution to bring the low partner up than to shut the high partner down...
