Coughing mucus for a week

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing mucus for a week

coughing

I have had a cold now for over a week, I am coughing up green sticky mucus and blowing out a lot of green mucus.
Try taking an allergy medicine for a week and see if that helps. It doesn't sound like you have any mucus, so the cold medicines wouldn't work. My children have allergy related athsma. They rattle when they sleep and mostly just when sleeping or exercising. They also have a cough. I even had one child who always sounded like her nose was stuffy and had bad breath, that went away with the allergy medicine. Singular really helped my children.
I've had a cough for a year now.Diagnosed and treated for asthma and acid reflux.Cough much better but still producing some thick clear mucus every day or so. A week ago, I coughed up some bloody mucus for the first time. The first episode was a small amount of bright fresh blood with some phlegm and on two subsequent occasions, the same day, the blood was darker and more integral with the phlegm. They were very small amounts each time.

I have a nebulizer and it helps a bunch with coughing up mucus, but too much makes me dizzy. I don't have health insurance, so I go to county hospital usually. But all they do is give me breathing treatments and a shot of prednisone and send me home. Now, I have a few prednisone pills left over from last time I was sick. Can taking these help? Some cold medicines that I've tried in the past (Nyquil, Sudifed, Robitussen, etc) seem to make my asthma worse.
perscribed amoxicillon twice a day for 7 days and a steroid once a day for 7 days. He wrote me a prescription for cough syrup. Each day my throat got a little better but my cough and mucus has gotten worse. I will be okay for a while and then all of a sudden at no warning I'll get this uncontrolable urge to cough and cough and I have loads of clear mucus. It feels like it is in the back of my throat and I can't get it all up.
I always awake with layers or lumps of green nose dirt (mucus ?) in my nose. Also I have a frequent need to clear my throat and I cough up phlegm which is often green. I have thought it was associated with a cold but it has been there now for months or even years and I do not think I have a cold. Or is it possible to have cold symptoms which linger for months? Can I do anything to help this condition ? Thanks for your help.
I have a partner, sort of, who i have unprotected anal intercourse with, we have been seeing eachother for a year, and say we love each other etc, but only see each other once a week due to busy lives. Anyway im scared i might have contracted HIV about 3 months ago now. i started getting a sore throat and then stuffy nose, cough you know the drill, then about week after that i got diarrhoea which lasted for 4 days. After that i started getting joint pain and consist coughing up mucus.
Every year I've suffered from a serious bout of coughing which has lasted anywhere from a week to a few months. I keep coughing up mucus throughout the day. If I resist the, for example when I'm in class it gets worse and builds up until I can't hold it back any more. Lately it's come back again in full force, and I was wondering how I could make it stop. It's irritating, gross, annoying, embarrassing and painful.
I was coughing up foamy white mucus for 3 weeks and looked on this site for answers. Emergency room test later showed WHOOPING COUGH. Pertussis — commonly called whooping cough (/ˈhuːpɪŋ kɒf/ or /ˈhwuːpɪŋ kɒf/) — is a highly contagious bacterial disease caused by Bordetella pertussis which is found in the mouth, nose and the throat of an infected person. In some countries, this disease is called the 100 days' cough or cough of 100 days.
Like Susie I had been a smoker for 7 (almost 8) years. I definitely coughed up a lot of brown gunk, and developed a habit of hawking lougies because of my post-nasal drip. I really don't believe that age has a factor in how smoking effects a person, its different for everyone. I know a TON of people who never had respiratory problems like I did but smoked longer than I, but I also knew people who had much worse problems than I who smoked for less time.
I am not going to give you a list of possible causes for your problems, although I have a good idea. I will tell you I can sider them serious, genuine, and treatable. There are a number of specialists you must see, a swall specialist being one of them. Please do so as soon as you can.
here I sit, first thing in the morning, enjoying my coffee without gagging, coughing and spitting ( a violent cough) for the first time in 2 years....I thought I would take the time to post this because after surfing the web for 2 years and trying everything imaginable I would share my story as I know there are so many others!!
These seem to aid in keeping the mucus thin in the esphagus, but does anyone have a quick fix for when there is a mucus plug trapped in the treachea that she can't cough up due to her weak cough from her one working vocal cord and therefore only 30% of her airway. I realize that putting the treach back in is the reasonable and easy anwser...however it is a quality of life issue and we are trying whatever we can first and we will succumb to that as her last result.
Can someone please help me in finding the cause of a 3 week cough along with slight lung pain and vaginal spotting. The coughing that I am experiencing is a dry cough and has very little phelgm. Please give any information to help me figure this out.I went to a doctor and the doctor was not really able to help much.He said that it could be cystis fibrosis but was unsure. Please help!!!!!
Oh and I do cough up a little bit of phlemy stuff when I am coughing, but not alot. I would say on average this happens about 3 times a week. I am now making a log so if this doesn't stop I can go see a Dr about it and have something showing how often it happens. Do you think this could be a mild form of asthma?
For the past two and a half weeks I have had a cough. For the first week or so it was just a small cough, then it developed into coughing fits. For the past week the cough has led to nosebleeds, at least once a day, and vomiting, but only the once. The cough produces white-ish phlegm and a lot of spit. It is hard to breathe whilst getting rid of the spit. During the night I wake up once or twice to cough and this often leaves me dry heaving.
Hey everybody! I've been smoking weed 2-3 times a week for the past 4 months, this past week I smoked everyday and then yesterday I got sick with the flu. I'm coughing up brown mucus, could that be from built up tar and resin from smoking? Or is this a sign of infection? Thanks in advance!
Everytime she has a cold she'll get this cough and asthma attacks but after a week or so it's just this dry cough that has a barking sound to it. She has had this many times causing her to miss a lot of school and social activities. She's also embarrassed whenever she goes somewhere because of the coughing. Everytime this happens we go to the doctor and have every test possible done and they all show nothing wrong.
Here I sit 39 wks 2 days pregnant and SOOO ready to have this baby. I've been having TONS of mucus discharge but unfortunately it's coming from the WRONG end.....yup...sinuses...All day and all night, constantly running down the back of my throat gagging me, making me puke, making my throat sore...driving me absolutely nuts.
because i had a runny nose/sore throat cold and then that got better and the next week I got a horrible mucus cough that lasted for about 3 months. i eventually had to go to the doctor and she said i had a slight case of bronchitis so she had to give me prescription meds , that helped a little and a couple weeks later i was better. but sometimes those coughs can linger, i had it and when i laughed it would start a whole coughing episode, and nights were bad too.
A little over a week ago, I started with a a cough that, seemed like a normal cold. I had a stuffy nose but, nothing to really worry about. Now, my head is always hurting from the coughing, Im coughing up mucus constantly. My Lungs hurt so very badly. It is the worst of all. I cant even sleep because I feel pressure on them when Im laying down. My upper back hurts but, that might be from my lungs. When I finally can get a few hours of rest, I wake up from not breathing. Its scary.
After having swollen gums and post nasal drip for a week, I suddenly woke up this Monday with a weird feeling in my lungs and a cough. The cough itself was a bit dry but it didn't hurt. Every morning I'd wake up with mucus and I'd cough some up but during the day and night the cough would be dry. I seemed to be getting better but last night, after eating a few potato chips, I suddenly got worse.
On Saturday (about 3 days ago), I was coughing hard and bringing up some white to clear mucus after I took a syrup that's an expectorant, decongestant, and an antihistamine that my GP prescribed to me. I'm also getting over a sinus infection and just finished taking antibiotics as well. After I finished coughing hard, my throat (near my adam's apple) feels achy and feels weird when I swallow. I feel the weirdness when I'm swallowing the food and the sensation hangs around for 20 minutes or so.
Next, insulin problems can cause excess mucus. Cut out as much sugar and starch from your diet for a week and see if there is an improvement. Last option, get Letha Hadady's Asian Health Secrets and go on an antiphlegm course from the book. Oh, yeah, one more thing--some people get that problem from new-fangled mouthwashes or toothpastes.
sinusitis seem the most normal explanation, however, the dr's say the don't find anything that should cause that much mucus. The only time it ever has stopped for a short while is when I was put on prednisone. For obvious reasons ,pred is not a med that I can be on at the level that worked 60mg. I blow up huge so My Dr's are aware of that. Latel;y in the last 10 days I have noticed a change in my taste buds. My taste is impaired and my tounge tingles and at time feels burning.
I am 26 years old and for the last couple of days I have not been able to keep much down. I have a terrible cough and my throat hurts really bad. I throw up cobs of mucus and then whatever I have eaten that moment. It has been really hard for me to breath when I work out or even just sitting around at times. The week before all of this started happening, my sinuses drained very bad. My head, nose and chest was very congested and I had a slight fever.
In 2001 I was diagnosed with mild copd. For years I thought it was just asthma. I have never smoked and I exercise at least 5 times a week. I am currently taking Asthmax and formotoral. Is there anything to help stop the coughing?
