Hi all! I'm currently 6 weeks 5 days and oh man... The pleasure of morning sickness! Other than the nausea and vomiting, I'm also coughing a lot and the phlegm is making my chest and nose super congested. I've read that you'll have more mucus build up during pregnancy, so is it normal to feel this congested during the first trimester? Any advise on how to make the congestion better?

green and yellow flem should not be coming up from allergy unless it is stomach acid. Usually allergy is clear mucus. I'm not a doctor but I wonder if it is a bacteria infection. Sorry I don't know the correct answer. Maybe the doctors are correct too. I just personally haven't heard of colored mucus from allergy. Allergy can cause mucus that can lead to bacteria infection too. See another doctor.
It sounds very much like acid reflux. The only symptoms that I had was coughing and mucus. Went to lung dr and had all the tests everything ok there. Back to GI dr. who didn't think it was reflux because no pain only coughing. Had all the test including 24 hr ph test (fun) which showed I was coughing when I had acid reflux. My cough was so hard that it was causing other problems like blood pressure.
My friend is currenly in the hospital undergoing multiple diagnostic testing due to unexplained "cavitating lung lesions". Her symptoms include nonproductive, constant coughing. That is to say, only clear mucus is produced upon couighing. Additionally, she has experienced a significant decrease in appetite due to constant nausea. Biopsies have been performed and have come back negative. Test results are also negative for fungal and bacterial infections.
I've had issues with foul-smelling gas and diarrhea for a few years. I attributed it to me being lactose intolerant (I was never tested) and try to avoid dairy. This seems to help most of the time, but although it has reduced occurrences, it has not gone away completely.

I also have frequent coughing with mucus from my throat and have to blow my nose a lot after words. My doc says it's alergies but it all started about the time i was diagnosed with thyroid disease. I know this doesn't help but you are not alone.

After coughing at times, I have had some small amounts of stringy mucus (sometimes like egg whites). Tonight, I had a very small clump in my underwear, tinged slight yellow. Excess mucus causes coughing. You can get a mucolytic (mucus thinner) called guaifenesin over-the-counter. Mucinex contains gauifenesin but I would get the plain guaifenesin. Vitamin B5 also thins mucus. He would have to take 500 mg a day. No side effects. Then there are anti-inflammatories, among them Vitamin C. Of course, stopping smoking would help the most, but you have had no success in that area. Maybe once he gets more comfortable at reducing the coughing he will think about quitting.
Hello yes you need to be checked it is possible to break your ribs if coughing is forceful enough. When coughing you can place a pillow up against the abdomen and chest area to help lessen the force the cough places on those areas. You most likely need some antibiotics and possibly a chest x-ray, and breathing treatments to help break the phlegm up so you can get all the infection and mucus out of you body once and for all.
The first thing to consider to whether the acid reflux has gotten worse. Nausea, throat pain, coughing, increased mucus... these are all symptoms of LPRD and GERD (with nausea being a symptom of possible delayed gastric emptying/dyspepsia). You can see abut a throat culture, but based on your description here, I don't know if that'll be enough to find the problem.

Second day I started to get a sore throat and started coughing really hard with a lot of dark green mucus coming out of my coughs. My nose usually stayed runny all day but usually at night when I'd go to sleep it wouldn't run. But I started coughing and sometimes there's blood in the mucus when I cough up, little amounts in the mucus. My temperature was 99.8, but recently around after day 5 my soar throat went away.
I rested for 2 more weeks after finishing the antibiotics but was still coughing yellow mucus and feeling tired with moderate/mild activity. My doctor (chest specialist) put me on another 10 day course (moxifloxacin) which I'm finishing now, but I'm still tired and coughing up yellow.
I know it can take months to fully recover, but I'm afraid that as the mucus is still colored, the infection hasn't cleared. When can I expect the mucus to turn clear?
