A little over a week ago, I started with a a cough that, seemed like a normal cold. I had a stuffy nose but, nothing to really worry about.
Now, my head is always hurting from the coughing, Im coughing up mucus constantly. My Lungs hurt so very badly. It is the worst of all. I cant even sleep because I feel pressure on them when Im laying down. My upper back hurts but, that might be from my lungs. When I finally can get a few hours of rest, I wake up from not breathing. Its scary.
My symptoms started a month ago when i had a fever, throat pain, coughing up yellow mucus and a runny nose, so i decided to visit my doctor which prescribed Klacid 500 mg (Clarithromycin), which i took and after a few days the runny nose stopped and my throat no longer hurt, however, i was still caughing, which a follow-up to my doctor gave me Valdocef (Cefadroxil) which i also took but the cough remained.
It may be a virus but usually if you cough up green or yellow mucus it could be a bacterial infection. Do you have a fever? Is it a loose cough?

green and yellow flem should not be coming up from allergy unless it is stomach acid. Usually allergy is clear mucus. I'm not a doctor but I wonder if it is a bacteria infection. Sorry I don't know the correct answer. Maybe the doctors are correct too. I just personally haven't heard of colored mucus from allergy. Allergy can cause mucus that can lead to bacteria infection too. See another doctor.
Hello. I'm 18 years old and I've been coughing continuously for about a year. The cough has changed a lot since it started, and now It seems to be entirely due to to mucus build up around my lungs. The cough is stronger before I sleep through when I wake up or when it wakes me up (when it is the worst). At times, the mucus coughed out is either thick and yellow (but not much is coughed out) or it is clear and runny but is coughed out in half a mouthfuls.
Go to a doctor! You should have gone when it persisted for more than a few days. Coughing up blood could be a lot of things. The one that immediately comes to mind is tuberculosis. If it is, you'll need a year, I believe it is, of antibiotics (do take the ENTIRE course even when you feel better, if you do end up with this or we can end up with another drug-resistant strain). Even if it wasn't one of those two, coughing up blood is not a good thing.
I am 25 by the way, sexually active, protection always used. Also still go to the gym and lift weight 4 days a week for bodybuilding( took a week off when i got sick).
what do you think could be the problem? and should i wait it out or go see a doctor.
doctor is my last resort not because they bite or scare me, but because I have no insurance.
so about a week ago?? i had a virus im guessing... i didnt feel very well and had to be careful about what i ate. im all better now but... now i think i might have a cold?? but idk if its a cold because well... only one reason. i have a weird pressure in my chest. nothing painful but noticeable if you get what im saying. also i do have a slight sore throat and a little bit of a cough sometimes. so i was wondering.. is this a cold or what?? because i have no idea what it could be.
so, ive been coughing for over a month.. its been a very painful cough, a lot of mucus, and during the coughing fits i cannot breathe... so.. is there an easy way to make it go away? cuz its really annoying.. cuz i enjoy breathing.. a lot.. and sometimes i'll act like i'm going to puke.. but i actually cant puke so i dont.. what will make this go away? does anyone even know what i should call it?
Usually I feel a sensation (tickling) my right ear, then right away in the right side upper inside of my nose. Its like a full sensation, then I get a coughing spell because I feel a tickling in my upper throat. I cough really hard and really loud and the cough is like a spasm that last for 2 minutes or so. Sometimes it feels like someone has put a tongue depressant stick in my throat. Usually I cough up clear mucus but if I have any food in my stomach its hard to keep it down.
has a Vet taken a look at this and diagnosed it for you? there doesn't necessarily need to be an odor for it to be infected, but since the antibiotic didn't work this could well be a cyst of some sort or the antibiotics weren't the of the right type. It should be drained and removed by a Vet.
Sounds pretty serious!! How long has this been happening? I wouldn't worry about it if it has only been a few days, but upwards of a week, I'd go to a doctor - the bronchi are very delicate and can become injured by coughing and hence a little bit of blood - I hope it clears up fast!

My symptoms - I had a sore throat, coughing up mucus, mild temp, sneezing etc, about 4 months ago, ever since, the symptoms keep recurring, mainly coughing. mild crackles in my airways upon waking, which is cleared by coughing up mucus. I have been to my GP quite a few times, have had three different types of anitbiotics, a chest Xray and lung funciton test. Have also been tested for whooping cough and other types of viruses, which are all negative.
Thank you for your quick response. I know it's not bacterial because I'm not coughing up a lot d green mucus or have that drowning feeling in my lungs. I think it's just my Annual Bronchitis kicking in it has always started during late fall early winter. But I am going to be setting a doctor appointment so I can get more of those Tessalon pearls.
my lungs began to ache and the doc told me it was pnumonia. A week passed and my white blood cell count returned to normal. What never subsided was my cough. Doc perscribed me something stronger.... Prometh/codeine. I never even take tylenol and am unfarmiliar with codeine or it's affects. I know when I asked if it was on the four dollar plan at wal mart they said no bc it was a narcotic. I began takin it and it would knock out my cough. Unfortunaly, it would also knock me out.
Sounds like you might have a mild case of allergy related athsma. Try taking an allergy medicine for a week and see if that helps. It doesn't sound like you have any mucus, so the cold medicines wouldn't work. My children have allergy related athsma. They rattle when they sleep and mostly just when sleeping or exercising. They also have a cough. I even had one child who always sounded like her nose was stuffy and had bad breath, that went away with the allergy medicine.
Around 24wks I too picked up a cold with lots of mucus for about a week. It started off with a red, burning throat. I went to the doctor just to make sure it wasn't tonsillitis, as this would've meant taking antibiotics. Luckily it was just a cold and I'm recovering without having to take any medication, just water and rest.
