You should use sunscreen while you are out in the sun (always a good idea anyway), or maybe a hat with a brim large enough to protect your face. Definitely get some lip balm with sunscreen in it.
What antiviral are you on? You might try upping the dose if you know you're going to be out in the sun. If you take 500 mg of Valtrex, for example, try taking 1000 mg the day before, the day of, and the day after.

Think outside of the box, too - it could be as simple as a new lip balm or a food, but could also be another medication you might have just started using, a soap, shaving cream (if you're male), etc. Antivirals help a lot, but they can't override everything. I've had hsv2 for 15+ years, and acyclovir works wonderfully, but if I get a cold or the flu, forget it.

no, not acyclovir ( xovirax ) cream. It's useless for herpes and too overpriced.
You want to use acyclovir oral pills as outlined in the herpes handbook.
fyi - if you are using the H balm system and a herpes antiviral like valtrex , acyclovir or famvir, you'll never know if the H balm worked or if it was the antivirals making it seem like the H balm system was working.
t check if the other person had visible sores, and the lip balm that I used is the one where the lip balm applicator makes the balm come out of a little plastic hole, and you smear the plastic all around your lips, which I did.
It was also a cold night so my lips are a bit dry at the moment, although I do notice some redness on my lower lip almost in the shape of a pimple but just red. It doesn't itch or anything, so not sure if I'm just panicking for no reason.
Hi and thanks. I am familiar with the liquid as my older child went on it for two months because he was getting cold sores constantly. It worked, he rarely gets them, maybe one small one since then. their md does not want to start my younger one yet because of his age and potential side effects to the liver etc.. It seems that peanut butter, which he eats constantly causes him to break out with them. In my constant research it appears this is true due to the lysine vs arginine.

I’m a bit of a lip balm addict so then when I couldn’t find lip balm for about a week my lips got all chapped, then I got some lip balm finally and now ive got little bumps all over my lips that are a bit itchy and swollen but not really any pain. I think they’re lacking moisture so excess sebum has come out causing fordyce spots. But let me know!
It appears that all these things that I mentioned and tried, were just aggravating the virus. I have been on acyclovir for about 1 year now. So far no outbreak. I am just worried when I stop the meds, it might start its appearance again. I don't want to stop the meds just yet. Does anyone know if I can take nosodes alongside with acyclovir. I would appreciate your help... Has anyone tried ?

Hi guys, please i need you help i am desperate. Last May i bought a new lip balm, and days after that i noticed my lips stqrted peeling. I thought it was just because my office is cold, but it became swollen and i noticed that it has crusts or dried up form of a watery discharge. It finally went away and i started using the said lip balm again, then days after that the symptoms came back.
I have chapped and swollen lips for 7 years from mouth breathing during the night because i have allergies. I started using cordi balm (hydrocordisone lip balm) recently. It seems that my lips are getting worse, but everything makes it worse even plain coconut oil. I went to my dermatologist 7 years ago and did a biopsy and found nothing. Is it normal for my lip swelling to get worse befor they get better?

This may also result to a red ring around the mouth. Moisturizing with lip balm containing sunscreen or petroleum jelly may help. However, if the redness, pigmentation, cracking or dryness persist and becomes painful, have this evaluated further by your doctor for proper management. Medicated lip balm may be indicated.
