I had viral meningitis in December 05, and was in hospital for 2 weeks the condition was confirmed by the neurologitst having a lumbar puncture. I was so ill I thought I would die, I could not move of the bed the pain in my head was explosive and my eyes hurt so bad. It took me three months to get over this, and until september 05 until I was one hundred percent again.
My aunt was admitted months at a time, quite a few times, for viral meningitis. And ultimatly they found out it was stress causing hers. With her stress, It was where she lived, and who was stessing her out. Once she moved, she hasn't had a reoccurance. My sister in law who was admitted last year for the same thing, also was told hers was caused by stress. Did they mention if there was a cause for yours?
Can the herpes simplex cause the viral meningitis even if she does not have the genital herpes? She was tested negative for the virus a couple months ago.
She was quite sick and had to be given morphine, anit-viral and steroids.
m a healthy 24 year old female who has been suffering from this since Spring 2007 (came down with meningitis 3x in 3 months - acyclovir and Valtrex treatments did not work and resulted in renal failure). All 3 times, my spinal tap came back positive for HSV II.
I am currently (and have been since August 2007) taking 500mg of Famciclovir per day. For the first year, I took 500mg 3x per day. The second year I reduced it to 500mg 2x per day because it was really hard on my body.

ve ruled that out and she actually has viral meningitis. We live in a very rural region where mold is common, and have been concerned about the possibility of fungal meningitis as well, though the hospital said they checked for this and it wasn't the case.
I'm wondering, how severe can viral meningitis be? My aunt's mind is currently completely gone. She no longer remembers people, or even any new information for more than a second.

I'm on day 5 of viral meningitis. I had meningitis also in january 2009. was in the hospital 10 days. why am I getting it again? are these cognitive issues ever gonna go away? I have trouble getting some words from my brain to my lips. short term memory *****. learning ability has decreased. sometimes when talking i just stop and stare. incredibly depressed about this. been on zoloft since last time. was told i have post tramatic stress due to a life threatening event.
I have had viral, aseptic meningitis 3 times in the past 6 years. The first two times I recovered after about three weeks and had not residual effects. This past September, I had a bout of meningitis, which left me with horrible constant headaches, blurred vision, neck pain, and some weakness in my left arm. My boyfriend was in the hospital with viral meningitis in the beginning of February for 3-4 days then home off work for a week.
He's experiencing a few different things:
1. He's had 2 spinal taps prior to his hospital stay and mentions that his spine feels like it's the spine of a 90 year old. He had different levels of pain and today told me that the injection area from the taps is really bothering him. Is this normal? How long will he be having this pain?

I have been diagnosed with HSV-1 for as long as I can remember. Based on my life experience, this is an opportunistic viral infection. Every time I'm in the sun too long, I get "sun poisoning" (a cold sore) on my face. Every time I get sick and my nose runs, I get cold sores "in" my nose and on my philtrum? (area between nostrils and upper lip). On average I have a cold sore on my face at least 1 week a month. I take acyclovir PO and topical zythromax.
My best friend has been diagnosed with viral meningitis/encephalitis. She presented to the ER with a severe headache and fever. She had a spinal tap done and was diagnosed with viral meningitis. While staying at her local hospital with spiked fevers and altered mental status she then suffered a seizure on her fifth night. Immediately transferred her to the unit and then transferred to another hospital for more critical care. She has now been unresponsive for 14 days.
