Abscess on jaw line

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess on jaw line

abscess

in a perfect world a root canal and crown or an implant would be ideal depending on how badly damaged the tooth is but these procedures can cost around 1500 to 5000 depending on where you live. you need to see a dentist right now to evaluate your situation and go through your options. if you have a local dental school or low income clinic in your area you might want to check them out. good luck!
A year ago I went to get 2 teeth removed (side by side on top). The dentist broke one off below the gum line and the other he crushed and broke in half, he did not get either of them out. I have been terrified of mouth work since childhood. He told me he would not work on me again unless I took Valium first. He said He needs to cut open the gum and drill into my jaw bone to remove the teeth. I did not go back and that was a year ago. Now the half tooth is abscessed.
I am worried I have a dental infection spreading from neglected dental work, that was complicated by a mis-diagnosis. Sorry for dragging this on, and on. Does a tooth abscess ever not show up on a X-ray? Possibly draining out before X-ray is taken? draining into roof of mouth or sinus?
Over the past couple days I've been having some pain in my jaw (not affiliated with a tooth) and today I noticed a swollen bump right on the jaw line on the right hand side in between the chin and the back part of the jaw near the ear. The pain has been throbbing and has radiated all along the right side of my face, primarily including the inner right ear, the right temple, and of course the right side of my jaw.
The dentist showed me a large black hole on the x-ray and said it was an abscess. I was going to have an implant inserted but when I went back 6 weeks later the hole hadn't closed enough. The hole has been closing but the lump has not gone, and every now and then the lump swells up slightly again and can be a little bit painful. Any advice on what it could be? Has the dentist missed something a bit more serious? I have managed to overcome health anxiety but worried this may bring it on again!
I have an abscess in a broken tooth on the upper right side, 2nd tooth from the back. I feel a lump on the upper portion of the gum line, near where the jaw connects. My cheek is swollen and I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I am afraid that it has spread into my cheek cavity. How serious is this? What is the worst thing that can happen if I am unable to go to a dentist? I don't have any insurance. Should I go to the emergency room?
1) Yes, it is very well possible that the abscess may grow within the jaw and weaken the jaw. I haven't seen a broken jaw due that before but it can spread within the jaw bone and cause extensive damage. Another more likely scenario is that the abscess will escape the jaw bone and spread to the soft tissue of the head which is extremely dangerous. It can spread down the neck and cause breathing problems or spread to the spaces near the brain.
The only difference is that I was also seeing some swelling in my right cheek and jaw line. No one else seemed to notice it until I pointed it out. Now it is Sunday morning and I woke to find my cheek and jaw line severely swollen. The tooth doesn't really hurt anymore but now it is the whole lower right side of my face. From under my ear (at the joint) all the way to my chin is tender, tight and swollen. Instead of having a curved jaw line, it's almost completely square on the right side.
I have 5 teeth left on my bottom and two are broke off at gumline. I plan on getting all 5 teeth pulled with two implants. This is definetly genetic due to the fact I am only 37 years old and take excellent care of my teeth (both of my parents lost their teeth very early in life). The teeth broke off (again) and my dentist cemented them back on, they are now lose and have a very funny odor.
First i got a mri scan of my brain the results where normal, then i went to the ent clinic and done some ear test and some time later they found nothing so then i read somewhere about tmj and vertigo and it made sense to me that this could be an answer as i have also been suffering since i was a teenager on and off -locked jaw-clicking jaw on the right side-and i think i m grinding my teeth too at night because when i wake up some mornings my jaw feel soft and sore .
About 2 years ago my dentist told me I had a large shadow on my dental x Ray (upper jaw). He said he didn't know what it was, but not to worry about it. I have noticed a swelling or thickening in the gums in that area for some time. My dentist monitors my tooth mobility in that area. In the last 2-3 months I developed tenderness in that area and it bled every time I flossed for about a month.
I am 19 years old and when i was roughly 15/16 i got spiked with ecstacy which led me to clench my jaw so hard that i was convinced it was dislcoated or something on the right hand side of my face as it was chronically clicking and grinding. The next day seemed to be fine and progressively i started to get pain in the right hand side of my face.
The last 4 days I have been in extreme pain including all the bottom teeth on that side, my jaw, ear, neck and head. The four bottom teeth in front of that one have a red line running across the top, it looks like a vein. What is it? I do not have dental insurance but I have some Keflex last and have been taking it along with Motrin for the pain. It's extremely hard to chew or even swallow and I can't chew on that side at all. Thanks for your time!
Chiropracter 3 times week- massage therapy 3 times a week- then had to break down and see GP again 8/22- pain was at it's worsttttt Medrol pack, Toradol, and Soma prescribed for severe pain and inflammation- I could barely hold my head up- it felt like a bowling ball- no ear infection GP said we needed to rule out dental problems then get MRI if no change......
I was told I needed to be seen, and made an appointment for today. Over the weekend, I noticed pain on the other side, and discovered an abscess. This afternoon, at my appointment, I discovered the molar on the right side was cracked in a couple places (already lots of fillings), and it needs a crown. X-rays of the left side didn't make it clear which tooth was causing the large abscess, which was kind of between two teeth.
and about two days later i got this little bump on my right side of my head ..just below the ear, behind the jaw line and it hurts when i do touch it...thenin two weeks i got a bump size of alemon or a bit smaller under my chin and that one hurts on its own 24/7 i was thinking its an infection but the cancer idea is in the air...
When I was pregnant with my son in 2007 I noticed a lump on the side of my neck (its right under my jaw line and isn't noticable by sight). I asked my OB about it and she said it was perfecty normal during pregnancy and didn't even check it out. Well I still have the lump and my son is now 19 months old. It doesn't seem to be getting bigger and isn't painful.
However since, roughly, August time last year, i started noticing these spots appearing on my lower jaw line. they appeared to have been just a normal little spot that would vanish after maybe 2-3 days however that wasnt to be the case. Its now Febuary and they have now spread onto my lower to mid cheek aswell not to mention also appearing on the opposite side of my face which again are on lower jaw and lower to mid cheek areas.
It goes from above my right eyebrow down below my jaw line. I have TMJ issues on this side but it's never felt like this. It's not swollen at all and it's bearable but I'd love to know why my face feels like this and when is it going away. Consequently when I woke up yesterday morning I also had several cold sores in the corner of my mouth...
Last Friday night I noticed one small lump the size of a big marble located approximately 3 inches under my dog's (Dixie) right jaw and under the skin. I took her to the vet Sat. morning and they said it was an abscess and they gave me some antibiotics. They said if it gets bigger or doesn't seem to get smaller to bring her back on Monday.
It radiates along my entire lower jaw. Pressure on the tooth makes the pain less severe but once I take my finger off... OUCH!! The severe pain continues for about 10 minutes. Lately the tooth has also become sensitive to cold and this is really starting to concern me. I'm tired of being in pain. After reading some blogs I wonder if my dentist was wrong in suggesting I needed a root canal because the only problem I had prior to THAT was heat sensitivity.

Groin Armpit Neck (there is a chain of lymph nodes on either side of the front of the neck, both sides of the neck, and down each side of the back of the neck) Under the jaw and chin Behind the ears On the back of the head Lymph nodes can become swollen from infection, inflammatory conditions, an abscess, or cancer. Other causes of enlarged lymph nodes are rare. By far, the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes is infection.
I need a good medical answer to the cure against bumps that are swollen under my neck under my jaw line and chin. I was wondering if you could shed more light on what can be done to treat this.
