Abscess on jaw line

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess on jaw line

abscess

Avatar f tn ve been having some pain in my jaw (not affiliated with a tooth) and today I noticed a swollen bump right on the jaw line on the right hand side in between the chin and the back part of the jaw near the ear. The pain has been throbbing and has radiated all along the right side of my face, primarily including the inner right ear, the right temple, and of course the right side of my jaw.
Avatar f tn Do any of your teeth hurt? Sounds like you have an infection or abscess. If an abscess in the teeth goes unattended the infection will spread into the jaw and cause a lump. You need to get checked out ASAP!! If left untreated, the infection will spread into your blood stream.
Avatar n tn The dentist showed me a large black hole on the x-ray and said it was an abscess. I was going to have an implant inserted but when I went back 6 weeks later the hole hadn't closed enough. The hole has been closing but the lump has not gone, and every now and then the lump swells up slightly again and can be a little bit painful. Any advice on what it could be? Has the dentist missed something a bit more serious?

Avatar m tn I need a good medical answer to the cure against bumps that are swollen under my neck under my jaw line and chin. I was wondering if you could shed more light on what can be done to treat this.

Avatar n tn The pain seems to be on my lower jaw/at the place where the top and bottom of my jaw meet. The pain sometimes will radiate up into my eye sockets, giving me migraines. I've been to the dentist to get it checked since i know this is not normal for my jaw to be so painful. The first time i went, they made sure my bite was adjusted correctly, and they fixed it. A week later i went back (in even more pain) and was given a "root test".

Avatar m tn My lower jaw/mandible, has been shrinking for the past few years. I am turning 60 soon, female. How should I consider this as a problem? The lower, front teeth are increasinly crowded together. I know that I have one lower molar that is cracked and broken to the gum line, but what is left of the tooth is a stable and there is no pain. Thankyou.
Avatar n tn Try putting ice on your jaw (ice wrapped in a cloth) for 15 minutes several times a day. Also, rinse around the area very gently with warm salt water. Extracting the tooth and the antibiotics should have helped the swelling go down. You should call and see your dentist again. Perhaps he needs to try another type of antibiotic. After extraction of an abcessed tooth, infection is likely to occur.
Avatar f tn Now there is an ulcer type sore on the other side of my mouth but on the upper jaw-line. Any ideas what this could be or how to get the pain under control?
Avatar f tn I have an abscess in a broken tooth on the upper right side, 2nd tooth from the back. I feel a lump on the upper portion of the gum line, near where the jaw connects. My cheek is swollen and I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I am afraid that it has spread into my cheek cavity. How serious is this? What is the worst thing that can happen if I am unable to go to a dentist? I don't have any insurance. Should I go to the emergency room?
Avatar n tn could the wisdom tooth have caused a break in my jaw bone, or eaten away at the jaw bone itself and how much immediate danger could be involved in this condition? i am aware that i need to seek treatment from an oral surgeon, but cannot afford to do so at this time. i am unsure, though, if this is something i need immediate medical attention for, such as that from my local emergency room.
Avatar f tn However since, roughly, August time last year, i started noticing these spots appearing on my lower jaw line. they appeared to have been just a normal little spot that would vanish after maybe 2-3 days however that wasnt to be the case. Its now Febuary and they have now spread onto my lower to mid cheek aswell not to mention also appearing on the opposite side of my face which again are on lower jaw and lower to mid cheek areas.
Avatar n tn I have a bum on my gum on the left side of my face behind the last tooth. Some people are saying it might be a caker sore or an abscess. The bump became bigger and I noticed a white substance inside of the bump. It grew bigger than with the help of hot water and salt it began to drain. First question what is this on my gum? How long does it take to heal? and Should I go to the dentist after it fully heals?
Avatar m tn I have 5 teeth left on my bottom and two are broke off at gumline. I plan on getting all 5 teeth pulled with two implants. This is definetly genetic due to the fact I am only 37 years old and take excellent care of my teeth (both of my parents lost their teeth very early in life). The teeth broke off (again) and my dentist cemented them back on, they are now lose and have a very funny odor.
Avatar n tn It feels like a hard ball on my jaw below the tooth. What is it? How can it be fixed? When will the swelling go down? Is there something I can do? Thanks ahead of time.
Avatar n tn The antibiotics do help keep the infection in check but once the antibiotics are stopped, the infection may continue to grow. 1) Yes, it is very well possible that the abscess may grow within the jaw and weaken the jaw. I haven't seen a broken jaw due that before but it can spread within the jaw bone and cause extensive damage. Another more likely scenario is that the abscess will escape the jaw bone and spread to the soft tissue of the head which is extremely dangerous.
Avatar f tn Last weekend, I started having pretty significant pain in one of my molars. Painful to the touch, can't bite down on it, sometimes throbbing. I also felt some minor swelling under my jaw on the right side, but not a lot. No fever. On Monday (yesterday), I saw my dentist. He took x-rays and examined it, but said he didn't see any abscess or infection.
Avatar f tn A year ago I went to get 2 teeth removed (side by side on top). The dentist broke one off below the gum line and the other he crushed and broke in half, he did not get either of them out. I have been terrified of mouth work since childhood. He told me he would not work on me again unless I took Valium first. He said He needs to cut open the gum and drill into my jaw bone to remove the teeth. I did not go back and that was a year ago. Now the half tooth is abscessed.
1629677 tn?1299655604 Let it soak for a while. This can cause the abscess to open on its own and drain. Also, sometimes antibiotics are given to get rid of the abscess. Good luck.
