Abscess jaw ache

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess jaw ache

abscess

Avatar m tn m thinking it could be TMJ - which is a disorder of the jaw joint. It can cause many symptoms, including ear or jaw pain, as well as headaches, etc. Do you ever catch yourself clenching your jaw? Does your jaw crack or catch when you try to open it wide, such as with yawning? I would suggest starting with your family doctor - just to rule out any infection in the ear, however, if it is TMJ, the best person to treat it would be yoru dentist or oral surgeon. Best of luck!
Avatar m tn Hello~It sounds like it may be a TMJ issue. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull. You have one joint on each side of your jaw. TMJ disorders — a type of temporomandibular disorder or TMD — can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement.
Avatar n tn I have constant ache and hypersensitivity to cold in my lower right jaw with attacks of increased pain throughout the day affecting the entire right side of my face with little tenderness in my neck under chin and back of jaw over the muscle. The pain does not last more than two weeks and occurs about every two months. It started as random attacks of sharp pain but on the second occurrence there was a more continued ache and the right side of my lip went numb.
Avatar f tn I assumed I had an abscess but an xray revealed the sinus in my lower jaw was blocked due to infection. It is painful and theres a dull ache all the time.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have been having upper mouth pain for about 3 days. There is no abscess or infection of my teeth. I went to the dentist 3 weeks ago and was given a clean bill of health. I went to the dentist today and he said he is not sure what is causing the pain. He took a bunch of x-rays, but could find nothing wrong. He said it's not a cracked tooth, cavities, or an abscess. I have already had all my wisdom teeth pulled. Sometimes the pain is also referred to my lower jaw.
Avatar n tn just wanted to update and let you know that i ended up going to the er on easter morning. my jaw had swollen so bad that i couldn't shut my mouth. the swelling had started on the inside of my jaw as well as the outside. it got so sore that i couldn't even stand for an ice pack to touch my jaw. they did a ct and found out that it was an abscess. it was 1 inch by 3/8 inch big. they gave me iv rocephin and drained the abscess.
Avatar m tn is it somehting to worry about? One more question could this abscess have anything to do with my jaw feeling a bit week on the same side? It isn't exactly on the jaw its just above it on the inner side of the lower gum wall. Thankyou for your time.
Avatar f tn Do any of your teeth hurt? Sounds like you have an infection or abscess. If an abscess in the teeth goes unattended the infection will spread into the jaw and cause a lump. You need to get checked out ASAP!! If left untreated, the infection will spread into your blood stream.
Avatar m tn Okay, so I found out that it was an early stage abscess. I've had the first stage root canal done. Meaning the dentist just drilled out the pulp and filled it with temp filling. He said my abscess should go away by itself. It's been a week and the abscess has not gone down at all. Should I be worried? I have another appointment in a few days. Just wondering since my dentist doesn't seem to like telling me things. And he doesn't seem to really care for that matter.
Avatar m tn by the time i got to the er the doctor told me that my abscess was 1 inch by 3/8 of an inch big. that is pretty large for an abscess. with something like this the longer you put it off the worst it will get. hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn Now iv had my filling I no longer have the toothache but I am suffering from this face ache. It is really sore to touch and when I open my mouth my jaw hurts too. Anyone know what this could be? So painful!
Avatar f tn Ive been having pain on and off for several weeks in my lower left jaw area. Its originating in a crown that Ive had for more than 10 years and now its causing me earache and tender/swollen glands under my left jaw. Im in agony and Im popping pills like mad! This only numbs the pain slightly and wears off quite quickly. Ive also got a swollen left side of my face and a lump on my gum.
Avatar m tn I had a cracked tooth,I waited and put off something being done about it,and it became abscess,a pocket formed underneath it and also my jaw swelled up an I believe became infected, I went to the doctor, they numbed and drained the pocket, and gave me 2 antibiotics and a pain med, I'm no longer in pain (the cracked tooth is a little loose) but its been going on 3 days of antis and no change has occurred, is that normal? should I go back to the doctor?
Avatar m tn I've had a double tooth size root canal level abscess and also had sinusitis to, the worst one I felt was having not blockage type sinisitus but acute viral sinisitus due to an infection, that just comes on so fast you feel really ill like a migraine at first that clings to one, side then it gets worse and worse to a growing building pressure behind one, specific eye my right in that case, it got so pressurised well felt that way to an extent you think the pain os directly behind that eye on s
1881960 tn?1320699966 My doctor gave me penicillin and something for pain but its day 3 and nothing has changed. I can feel the abscess in my mouth for the first time today. It's not getting smaller, only larger! I am 29 and on coumadin and lovenox so no dentist will see me. I've called dozens of dentists to no avail. I am trying not to become frustrated but each passing day I'm stuck in bed isn't helping. Any suggestions ?
Avatar n tn I have swelling on the left side of my jaw and face. My jaw hurts underneath almost like a swollen gland. I also have canker sores inside my left side of mouth which I think is from biting the inside of my mouth while I sleep. What can I do for the pain. Is this TMJ or just stress?
Avatar m tn We took him to the emergency vet, and they kept him a few days and took blood samples and were able to open his jaw to see if he had a tooth abscess and they took xrays also. He was given antibiotics and steroids. They said they couldn't find any cause or problem, and was very frustrating for us because not only was that visit and procedures over $1,000 the swelling is now returning. The swelling did go down while he was on steroids. He is eating and running about normally.
Avatar f tn Dentist treated with Cavitron and said tooth would need to be extracted if swelling continued. Four days ago, had tooth 14 prepped for crown. All okay first day, then cheek and jaw started swelling and have not improved. No pain in tooth 14. Made an independent appt with Oral Surgeon but can't get in for three weeks. Any ideas/suggestions? And, why would tooth 14 exacerbate 29? Or, is it a separate problem? Thanks so much for any help/advice!
581210 tn?1220834780 However, I still have daily episodes of intense pain that may leave a lingering severe ache before the pain remits. Anti-inflammatories may help, but not always. Tylenol doesn't help. I was referred to an oral surgeon who said it is definitely a nerve issue, and if I wasn't better in a month, we might consider Neurontin. The site of injection is healed, no infection, no abscess. On x-rays, everything looks physically okay.
Avatar f tn A dental examination and X-rays are important for correct diagnosis and management of your condition. Jaw swelling can be due to many causes. It could possibly be due to spread of infection to the jaw or enlarged lymph nodes. Among the possible issues is a tooth abscess or tooth injury. A visit to the dentist may help. Keep me posted.
Avatar f tn I suffer from chronic tension headache and since the jaw surgery they have become debilitating. Important to mention my lower jaw and upper broken abscess molar are both located on the left side. I have been extremely depressed as my best friend passed away and my ex boyfriend tried to kill me all in a month. Hence the broken jaw.
Avatar n tn Upper left molar #14 was extracted 8 months ago. Prior extraction was experiencing ache on left side of face especially cheek bone & around eye, slightly swollen. Asked for antibotics, he told me what I was experiencing had nothing to do with the tooth & seek medical doctor. Tooth did not come out in one piece. Ten days later went back to dentist as sharp piece of bone sticking out of extraction site. Dentist removed, said it was not uncommon & that everything looked fine.
Avatar m tn It has been drained and I am taking antibiotics, but now my lower jaw is starting to hurt. Can this abscess be spreading from upper to lower?
1307768 tn?1273363703 not the tooth itself but underneath in the gum by the jawbone, i noticed when i press on my cheek. my tooth feels excellent i can eat on it with no pain. i have a narrow jaw and as the endodontist said, long roots. maybe this has to do with the pain? its right by the nerve in my jaw, i can feel that much. im NOT experiencing any tingling or loss of sensation, it kind of feels like a bruise when you press, but on the inside, kind of prickly only when pressed.
Avatar f tn I was on antibiotics (augmentin) before the surgery, which I continued due to the abscess but the day following the root canal, my face is very swollen, from the nose to below the jaw bone and slightly pink. It is not hard and not terribly sensitive today. What could have happened to cause this swelling and do you think the abscess has not been completely resolved?
