Cat abscess jaw

Common Questions and Answers about Cat abscess jaw

abscess

Avatar n tn Stress seems to be another factor, as well as keeping my jaw completely clenched while sleeping. I was examined by my husband (who is a chiropractor) today and he examined my jaw. I must first mention that this condition is very much right-sided. He noted SEVERE inflammation in my right jaw joint. He had me feel both sides of my jaw and the right side is portruded significantly.
Avatar f tn I did my research online this seems to be a gum infection and/or abscess of the tooth and very painful for the cat. I've never grabbed this cat, nor will it let me take it somewhere, it moves tries to escape doesn't like to be grabbed. Please tell me if there is something i could take, any antibiotic or pain killer or anti inflammation, anything. Unfortunately i have not much knowledge of medicine.
Avatar f tn My almost 20 year old calico cat has developed a jaw abscess that has broken through the skin to drain. I know from reading the forum this is VERY bad and I can't afford to bring her to the vet. She is still eating and otherwise acting quite normally but I am embarrassed to say I didn't notice that she developed this condition until I felt the scab under her chin. Then I noticed how distorted that side of her jaw has become. Life has been really hectic lately.
Avatar m tn First some back story: Cat had an abscess, took it to the vet. The abscess drained, went back to the vet, gave us some antibiotics. After abscess drained, the cat irritated it a bit, a flap of skin came off revealing tissue, and bone on the right of the jaw/mouth. We went back to the vet, said she couldn't bandage it since it's literally on the mouth, and therefore couldn't eat. Also can't stitch since there's no skin to stitch together.
Avatar m tn I am 19 years old and when i was roughly 15/16 i got spiked with ecstacy which led me to clench my jaw so hard that i was convinced it was dislcoated or something on the right hand side of my face as it was chronically clicking and grinding. The next day seemed to be fine and progressively i started to get pain in the right hand side of my face.
Avatar m tn By then the swelling was even larger very hard and couldnt hardly open my mouth as my jaw was so painful. The admitted me overnight and gave me antibiotics by drip. They intended to operate but prior I had a cat scan which i was told there was no puss pockets .This i cannot understand because i thought that all infections have puss? i tried to query but the doctors talked in mediucal terms so i just dont really understand. MY QUESTIONS ARE : Is it poss to have no puss in a Abscess ?
Avatar f tn My basic question is, when trying to detect an osteomyelitis (bone infection) which is the better tool, an MRI or a bone scan? Or a cat scan? Would a bone scan work on the jaw area? But in addition to that question, I have a VERY complicated situation with this infection, so if anyone has any advice, please help - here is the shortest possible version of my whole story... I've had a very serious dental infection for 6 months.
134578 tn?1546634665 Hi, thought I would post this although I alluded to it recently in another community, because it looks like a story not yet done. Our cat Sterling is formerly feral, beautiful (a silver tabby with a huge head) and a good outdoor cat.
219241 tn?1413541365 My poor cat had to go to the vet today coz he had a large abscess on his jaw. The vet told me he had a thyroid nodule (the cat not the vet...hee hee) I was most surprised. My other cat has Hyper thyroid.......now... I am starting to think...there could be a movie in this, an Ellen Brockovitch type! Healesville water tainted with thyroid problems! How weird is that? Me and two cats with thyroid problems. (yes the cats are getting on in years, but I am not!
Avatar n tn MY CAT WAS OUT ALL NIGHT LAST NIGHT AND CAME HOME THIS MORNING. HE WAS FINE ALL DAY UNTIL MY DAD SAID HE HAD A CUT UNDER HIS CHIN OR SOMETHING. I LIFTED UP HIS CHIN AND THERE IS A CIRCULAR CUT..A WOUND AND THERE IS A THING INSIDE OF IT. IT'S A WHITE THING BUT IT'S NOT A BONE. I DON'T THINK IT'S PUS BECAUSE IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF BEING HARD AND SOFT. IT'S LIKE A YELLOW WHITE AND IT SMELLS REALLY BAD. THIS CUT/WOUND IS SURROUNDED BUT A PATCH OF MISSING FUR.
Avatar n tn If you get infection on your tongue side, I am assuming, most probably, the jaw bone was perforated, and the tip of the implant is hanging out of the jaw bone, cannot see it on xray, unless you get a cat scan done. If this happened on the upper, and the tip of implant ended up in sinus, it's generaly ok. On the lower molar area, it's starts out thick and then it narrows down, to a thinner thickness.
Avatar f tn The cause was a sting by a cat nail, that healed very quick, but the bacteria from the cat saliva infected him; i understood that this thing is called cat scratch disease. He is much better now, he responded great at the treatment with much powerful antibiotics. Also, after the ultrasound, the doctors could localize the pus and they could extract a large part of it. I am very glad the problem was solved now, he has no fever, he started to eat and he seems to feel a lot better.
Avatar m tn Dear heidipost, A swelling under the jaw in a young animal may be an enlarged lymph node or an abscess. A lymph node may enlarge due to nearby inflammation, like from eruption of an adult tooth or from a minor abscess from a wound if he has been "arguing" with another cat or a wound in the mouth from chewing something.
1512593 tn?1290270446 I have 3 other cats but 2 out of those 3 didnt like the newcomer so one day when my kitten was sleeping on the couch they picked on her and she got 2 puncture wounds and then the next day on one side of her neck was swollen and underneath her jaw and her throat on that same side, like it was her lymph node that swelled up (and it was weeping clear fluid around where her lymph node would be, just weeping through the skin not from a wound).
Avatar f tn These include rabies, plague, ringworm, internal and external parasites, toxoplasmosis, bartonellosis (formerly known as cat scratch fever), allergies to cat hair, and secondary bacterial infections from cat scratches and bites. (refer: http://www.afpmb.org/pubs/tims/tim37.htm#purpose) Please let me know what your doctors think about meningitis and please keep me posted. Let me know if there is anything else.
Avatar n tn Surgical removal of the abscess as a whole is required. The abscess capsule needs to be removed as well. Once the abscess has been removed, the inciting tooth needs to be extracted, even if it is still firmly attached. Ideally the wound should be left open and filled with antibiotics. Common treatments of the open wound include antibiotic beads, antibiotic swabs/sponges, gels, ointments and manuka honey.
Avatar f tn Over a week ago (09/01) my son brought my attention to his lymph nodes along his jaw line that were really swollen, they didn't seem to hurt to the touch nor did they deem warm, but had no other problems, symptoms, or fever. When I took him to the E.R. the doctor asumed that it was an staph or something and sent us home with an antibiotic. The next morning (09/02) the lymph node up by his ear was swollen, on the same side as the jaw line ones.

Avatar f tn They also still don't know all the ways a person can get it as they know it is on the nails of a cat and transfered from cat to cat by fleas, more common on kittens or outside cats. They now say it can be transfered from cat to human in the cats saliva. Either way his inflammation and infection levels were extremly high but cell count were normal which they said ruled out cancer as that would affect cell count.
Avatar m tn It may be worth mentioning that I have within the past few years had an ill-defined tooth/jaw pain issue related to a previous filling in my molar, which flares up occasionally and responds somewhat to amoxicillin (it is not an abscess, perhaps it's related to food getting trapped above my filling, or something else related to my filling). In past episodes, I had slight fever and swollen neck lymph nodes and severe jaw pain, from these flare ups.
Avatar n tn My cat, Chuck, is 16 years old. One day not so long ago I discovered a small lump under my cat's chin on the left side, just behind the jaw bone. I monitored it for several weeks and it didn't grow or seem troublesome at all to Chuck. About 8 weeks after initially noticing the small lump, I took Chuck in for teeth cleaning and it ended up including 3 extractions, one extraction was in close proximity to the lump under his chin.
Avatar f tn CT scan of jaw showed residual swelling from abscess and shotty lymph nodes. A doctor took me off all antibiotics (thinking that's what had made me so sick) but flu-feeling worsened and developed into what I can only describe as horrifying meningitis-like waves of illness for following 4-6 weeks as infection worsened into hot, fluid-filled feeling throughout jaw, down into neck lymph nodes. Fevers remained constant, I was bedridden for almost 2 months.
164435 tn?1377105856 THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR REPOSES, I AM SO SORRY ABOUT YOUR CAT, I JUST LOST MY CAT OF 16 YRS, RENAL FAILURE, I LET HER DIE AT HOME WITH ME BY HER SIDE. AS FOR THE DENTIST, I CAN NOT TELL YOU ALL, HOW AFFRAID I WAS TO GO AND ALSO EMBARRASSED, BECAUSE OF MY TREMORS. I HAVE TO GO BACK ON THE 7TH OF JAN, THE DAY AFTER MY 49TH BIRTHDAY, FOR A DEEP ROOT CLEANING. I AM TAKING VALIUM 10 MGS.
Avatar n tn Finally, started feeding him milk with an eye dropper yesterday and the swelling on his head was better because the abscess ruptured. Momma cat was always around and would try to lick him alittle, but he did not nurse. This morning when I went out to feed them, he had his eyes open and head up. I fed him with an eye dropper at first, but could tell he was stronger and was trying to get up. I set him up on all fours and at first he fell and was VERY wobbly when he tried to walk.
Avatar n tn My doctor didnt really care to do more research into it, I switched doctors, he ran some blood tests, and a cat scan and found nothing. Shortly after that, the end of November I had a tooth abscess, which caused my left side from my ear to past the middle of my jaw to swell, tender to the touch, and extremely painful. I was treated for that, but while that was going on there wasnt any swelling or pressure in the temple area.

Avatar f tn I was seen again last night. I had a cat scan of my face. There were no abscesses noticed but small pockets of fluid. The fluid can visibly be seen on my face as a light white area of skin. I was told to keep taking the antibiotic because it is one of the only one that treats staph aureus and strep. The ER doctor also used a gloved finger to push some of the pocketed fluid to the surface. The drainage is now brown and the pus is seen but so deep.
Avatar f tn I never knew but was diagnosed with osteomeylitis. Thru two cat scans, and never told nor treated, also mandibular abscess. Home with picc line a month later a new abscess . Incredible agony. sypmtoms always reported, but never written. He was making up lies and I did not know it. When I caught him in a lie, I got my new guy who believed me from the minute he saw me he knew I was in serious trouble.
