I was researching online and it said that a dental/gum abscess is accompanied by pain. But I have no pain there. Just a little discomfort from the actual swelling.
My questions....
1. I don't want to have another round of anti-biotics right now so soon after the last round. Would it be dangerous to wait and see if this swelling goes down on its own?
2.
I have a bum on my gum on the left side of my face behind the last tooth. Some people are saying it might be a caker sore or an abscess. The bump became bigger and I noticed a white substance inside of the bump. It grew bigger than with the help of hot water and salt it began to drain. First question what is this on my gum? How long does it take to heal? and Should I go to the dentist after it fully heals?
Other than this he could also be having a gum infection, an infection of the skin of face, a boil or abscess or infection of the jaw bone.
It is difficult to diagnose this on net. Please consult his pediatrician and his dentist as soon as possible (read immediately!). Meanwhile please give him acetaminophen to make the pain tolerable. Take care!
Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease.

Just throbbing pain at different times. A CT Scan show a hole up by my jaw bone. When the did the surgery they found an abscess (cavity). I had them pull the molar, and they cleaned out the abscess. It is now March and my gum is still sore. Is this normal? I did have quite a few stitches in my mouth. Just wasn't sure if it should still be sore. I should say it is only sore when I touch up there.
I broke a tooth, front left. The tooth was sore yesterday. Today I have pain where gum meets the lip. My chin, cheek and jaw have become painfully inflamed. He told me he would not work on me again unless I took Valium first. He said He needs to cut open the gum and drill into my jaw bone to remove the teeth. I did not go back and that was a year ago. Ive been having pain on and off for several weeks in my lower left jaw area. Its originating in a crown that Ive had for more than 10 years and now its causing me earache and tender/swollen glands under my left jaw. Im in agony and Im popping pills like mad! This only numbs the pain slightly and wears off quite quickly. Ive also got a swollen left side of my face and a lump on my gum.
The antibiotics do help keep the infection in check but once the antibiotics are stopped, the infection may continue to grow.
1) Yes, it is very well possible that the abscess may grow within the jaw and weaken the jaw. I haven't seen a broken jaw due that before but it can spread within the jaw bone and cause extensive damage. Another more likely scenario is that the abscess will escape the jaw bone and spread to the soft tissue of the head which is extremely dangerous.
My lower jaw/mandible, has been shrinking for the past few years. I am turning 60 soon, female.
How should I consider this as a problem? The lower, front teeth are increasinly crowded together.
I know that I have one lower molar that is cracked and broken to the gum line,
but what is left of the tooth is a stable and there is no pain. Thankyou.
The most common causes of toothache are dental cavity and gum disease .Bruxism can cause jaw tenderness and abnormalities in teeth. If you are not satisfied with your dentist’s opinion seeking a second opinion may be helpful. It is important to rule out any cavity or dental decay. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. This was extremely painful for a few days, the gum went white underneath and there was a lot of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in the tooth. I think this was due to long term problems I have with TMJ but cleared up after a few days.
I returned to dentist for crown prep and explained the situation. She prepped the tooth for the crown and said that due to this problem with the temp filling and the fact that the hole went close to the root cavity I may need RCT.
I have an abscess in a broken tooth on the upper right side, 2nd tooth from the back. I feel a lump on the upper portion of the gum line, near where the jaw connects. My cheek is swollen and I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I am afraid that it has spread into my cheek cavity. How serious is this? What is the worst thing that can happen if I am unable to go to a dentist? I don't have any insurance. Should I go to the emergency room?
Sounds like it might be periodontal since there is bleeding and mobility, your exam should verify that, as far as the lesion goes (the dark spot) it appears your dentist is monitoring that and that there has been no change, in which case I'd look more for an individual abscess or possible gum disease situation,
I am wondering if the antibiotics are a way to increase the amount of time you have to wait more than a cure. I have a bump/abscess at the top of the gum right now and actually had the entire procedure. I have relatively low pain but it just started and I know if gets worse. I hope I don't lose my tooth completely. Let me know how this works. I feel like I am driving myself mad researching what is going on.
My 14 yr old daughter started with jaw pain over a week ago. Pain so bad she cried constantly. Now an abcess showed up on her second to last tooth on the gum. We took her to the dentist who would not touch her mouth until she did a round of amoxil for 10 days. we are on the 3rd day, and the pain has increased and the swelling of the left side of her face is deforming. swelling is now going under her jaw and into the neck. Is the antibotics not working?
d been having terrible tooth pain and had developed an abscess on the gum above that tooth. At the same time, I was experiencing a pressure/pulling sensation down my jaw, around my ear and down my neck.
