Avatar f tn Ive been having pain on and off for several weeks in my lower left jaw area. Its originating in a crown that Ive had for more than 10 years and now its causing me earache and tender/swollen glands under my left jaw. Im in agony and Im popping pills like mad! This only numbs the pain slightly and wears off quite quickly. Ive also got a swollen left side of my face and a lump on my gum.

Avatar f tn terrible pain that doesn't go away in mouth/jaw/gum. the pain doesnt even go away with a combination of Advil/Tylenol... My gum is also swollen throughout the entire lower quadrant of my mouth.. It is sore to the touch.. I have a bridge there (three teeth) that was placed about 5 years ago... It is FRIDAY & my dentist does not work today. I assume I have some type of abscess or infection..
Avatar n tn I've had an abscess on my gum area that started in my tooth for about a week. I've been on antibiotics (clindamycin 150 MG) for 5 days with painkillers. I've been swollen the entire time and have knot on my jaw. The dentist wont lance it because it hasn't come to a head yet. So, do I go to urgent care, or wait it out to see if it will ever come to a head? Thanks!
Avatar n tn I have recently developed a dental abscess on the lower left side of my gum. It is located below the screw they placed during surgery. I went to my local dentist and he told me to contact my Maxillofacial Surgery and prescribed 500 mg of Amoxicillin because it may be related to the screw. I have no pain at all in my tooth only the discomfort of having a swollen gum and what feels like like a hard bump a little above the abscess.
Avatar n tn If it can manage to break through the jaw bone and exit out of the gum, then the person can live with an abscess for years because the pus buildup in the jaw will leak out of the "gum boil," thus reducing the buildup of bacteria. 3) Which brings us to this question. If it doesn't escape through the jaw and into the mouth through the gums, it can also spread through the fascial planes of the head. These are spaces where muscles and tissues connect.
Avatar f tn He told me he would not work on me again unless I took Valium first. He said He needs to cut open the gum and drill into my jaw bone to remove the teeth. I did not go back and that was a year ago. Now the half tooth is abscessed. My face is so swollen its causing pressure in my eye ear and nose. Ive been on cephalexin for a bit more then 24 hrs now but the swelling and pain has not subsided at all. So my question is, when can i expect relief???
Avatar n tn I lost part of a filling on Tuesday and contacted the dentist, but they cannot see me for two weeks. Over the past two days, my cheek has swollen and my gum above the tooth is the size of a ping pong. I have amoxicillin at home so I bagan taking that and rinsing with salt water per stuff i read on the web, but the swelling has not gone down and i can't get a hold of my dentist until monday. Should I go to the emergency room or would they tell me the same thing?
Avatar f tn Dentist insisted on placing perm crowns - different crown materials (about six weeks ago.) Afterwards, pressure sensitivity improved but gum swelled on the linqual side. Dentist treated with Cavitron and said tooth would need to be extracted if swelling continued. Four days ago, had tooth 14 prepped for crown. All okay first day, then cheek and jaw started swelling and have not improved. No pain in tooth 14. Made an independent appt with Oral Surgeon but can't get in for three weeks.
Avatar n tn I still need 2 crowns upper right, and one crown lower right with a few more cavities filled. My dentist says there is no signs of dental abscess, but I have been having a lot of bad symptoms that seem to be getting worse. I feel really ill all the time. All my teeth hurt, It comes, and goes for what seems like no reason at all. My face feels tight, and puffy sometimes. My eyes burn. I get headaches, and sensitivity to light.
529224 tn?1400651819 These boils allow for the pus to escape your jaw bone and relieves any pressure buildup but if the gum boils stop forming and the pus is blocked off, it can spread to other parts of the jaw and can be life threatening.
Avatar f tn I have an abscess in a broken tooth on the upper right side, 2nd tooth from the back. I feel a lump on the upper portion of the gum line, near where the jaw connects. My cheek is swollen and I have a bitter taste in my mouth. I am afraid that it has spread into my cheek cavity. How serious is this? What is the worst thing that can happen if I am unable to go to a dentist? I don't have any insurance. Should I go to the emergency room?
Avatar f tn Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar m tn Now I have an abscess on my gum and jaw adjacent to that tooth. I have made an appointment to see a specialist but it will take 2 weeks to be seen. Should I try to get an emergency appointment to get some antibiotics going or should I just wait and see if the abscess doesn't get any worse? Also, why did thhis happen when I had a root canal in the first place?
Avatar n tn I have a bum on my gum on the left side of my face behind the last tooth. Some people are saying it might be a caker sore or an abscess. The bump became bigger and I noticed a white substance inside of the bump. It grew bigger than with the help of hot water and salt it began to drain. First question what is this on my gum? How long does it take to heal? and Should I go to the dentist after it fully heals?
Avatar f tn I've had a tooth abscess since the beginning of this year sometime. I went to the ER because my jaw had become so swollen that it was completely ridiculous. They gave me penicillin which I took (28 pills, 3 times a day with food). When I finished that bottle I realized that there was still a sort of blister on my gum even though it was much smaller than it used to be.
Avatar m tn It may be an abscess forming underneath the tooth and its starting to pop out causing a blister/bubble on the gumline area where the bottom of the tooth root is generally. The severe pain is probably indicative of a problem with the pulp/nerve of the tooth. When the pain stopped, it probably stopped because the nerve died from the infection and now its spread down into the jaw. Time to go back to the dentist.
635268 tn?1222719503 The tooth had turned black and when i ate something hard once it just fell out like that. A couple of months later I think i formed an abscess because i had some swelling above the missing tooth and I started pressing on it and it hurt.. Next for some odd reason i decided to stick the tip of my tounge where my tooth is missing and I felt the worst pain in the world. The pain shot up from my mouth to my head, my eyes started to tear and my entire body went numb.
Avatar m tn This was extremely painful for a few days, the gum went white underneath and there was a lot of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in the tooth. I think this was due to long term problems I have with TMJ but cleared up after a few days. I returned to dentist for crown prep and explained the situation. She prepped the tooth for the crown and said that due to this problem with the temp filling and the fact that the hole went close to the root cavity I may need RCT.
Avatar n tn 1) Yes, it is very well possible that the abscess may grow within the jaw and weaken the jaw. I haven't seen a broken jaw due that before but it can spread within the jaw bone and cause extensive damage. Another more likely scenario is that the abscess will escape the jaw bone and spread to the soft tissue of the head which is extremely dangerous. It can spread down the neck and cause breathing problems or spread to the spaces near the brain.
Avatar m tn Dentist put in temp filling for few week - extremely painful for few days, gum went white underneath and lots of pain in the jaw / gum but no pain in tooth (prob due to LT problem with TMJ). I returned to dentist for crown prep and she said that due to this problem with temp filling and fact that hole went close to root cavity I may need RCT.
Avatar f tn She had a very severe abscess in her jaw (external). When the lump started to appear and cause severe pain in her jaw, the doctors took xrays and said, "Yes, cancer in the left and right mandable... and it looks like the lymph nodes are being affected." Now, the doctors say that cancer is not likely in this area and the infection is severe. They lanced the area, drained and started IV antibiotics. This morning she says that she has a hole in her gum.
Avatar f tn I was researching online and it said that a dental/gum abscess is accompanied by pain. But I have no pain there. Just a little discomfort from the actual swelling. My questions.... 1. I don't want to have another round of anti-biotics right now so soon after the last round. Would it be dangerous to wait and see if this swelling goes down on its own? 2.
Avatar m tn My lower jaw/mandible, has been shrinking for the past few years. I am turning 60 soon, female. How should I consider this as a problem? The lower, front teeth are increasinly crowded together. I know that I have one lower molar that is cracked and broken to the gum line, but what is left of the tooth is a stable and there is no pain. Thankyou.
Avatar m tn Usually, the uncomfortable feeling of the tooth and gum beneath it last about 8 hours, while the swollen jaw will be gone after 16 hours ++. This situation happens every time I brush that particular lower left molar. About 1 month ago, I decided stop brushing that tooth. And I also stop chewing food using that area of teeth. Until 6 days ago, I gave a second chance to that tooth.
Avatar n tn The post (screw) was not lodged deep enough in my jaw therefore leaving a large space for area for bacteria to grow and multiply. As a result I had an abscess in my jaw with severe pain. The bacteria started eating away at my jawbone. I had to get drained twice and a hole was cut out in my gum to let the infection drain. My face grew 5 times bigger in 3 days.
981046 tn?1248590775 Hi A brief history of the problem, A week ago one of my molars became sore and gum swelling began. I ignored it for five days (dumb huh?) until the pain (and minor swelling) became unbearable and I finally went to the Dentist. Dentist probed and tried to drain the puss to alleviate the pressure but said the puss was really deep Diagnosed as an abscess I was prescribed Cleosin 300MG 30 capsules and Lortab.
