This is wierd as one could logically dictate if stopping the zyprexa was causing me to not sleep than once i started it i should feel the same way i did prior to stopping it. But I don't.
I have now completed weaning off the zyprexa for one month. Still problems sleeping, I AM sleeping 4-5 hours a night, but I DO NOT FEEL TIRED I CAN'T GET SLEEPY NO MATTER WHAT!! My psychiatrist has tried me on ambien, lunesta, Ive' even used 2 lunesta and I DO NOT GET SLEEPY!
Having real trouble sleeping - well ok, more trouble than normal! I take 3.75 to 7.5mg zopiclone anyway at night but even that isn't working. I just don't feel tired. The trouble is I know it will hit me and I will crash, I just don't know when and I really hate that. I dare not make any plans for the next few days because I don't want to have to cancel them when I finally crash into sleep land.
I got diagnosed Bipolar 1 four years ago, I'm currently twenty two. I currently take 30 mg. of zyprexa,. 1500 mg. depakote, 2 mg. benztropine, 50 mg. of risperdone, and 50 mg. testim . I have gained 70 pounds of fat. When I'm not in a mania I sleep from the zyprexa for 12 hours a night. My anxiety is so high and from all of the side affects, just to name a few I have had diarrhea for the last three years, retrograde ejaculation, weight gain, restless legs syndrome.
have been on 5mg of zyprexa for 21/2 months and i feel groggy in the morning, slightly depressed until i have some coffee. i missed a dose on purpose to see how i would feel in the morning and i had a great sleep, felt less anxious because i wasn't fatigued from too much sleep. but didn't want to miss more than 1 dose but am concerned that maybe 5mg. is too much to take or that it might not be the drug i should be taking.
My doctor has put me on Lamictal 25mg in the morning with my usual morning dose of Efexor 150mg. He has also put me on Zyprexa 5mg to help me sleep, as my sleep has been very broken, and I became very anxious. Will it be difficult to come off Zyprexa as I don't want to be permanently on this ? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.
See my post entitled "zyprexa withdrawal or sleep disorder" (still dealing with it, right now i am suffering from severe sleep deprivation and some really wierd symptoms like confusion, memory loss, severe inattention, etc.....look up zyprexa side effects and withdrawal, it can do some really messed up stuff to you. But on the other hand, not everyone reacts that way.
I am so sorry that a Dr. would prescribe this class of drug for insomnia. Were you diagnosed as psychotic, bipolar, or something else? This class of drugs are called antipsychotics. When we need quality sleep, there are plenty of sleep aids available that are quite effective - Ambien, Sonata, etc., to name a few.
Who is rx'ing this drug to you? If you want to get off of this, I suggest you find another physician, hopefully a well qualified psychiatrist, who will help you in the withdrawal.
I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
Things have improved a little, but the diarrhea and nausea seem to be worsening. The anxiety is slowly getting better. The lack of sleep has me alarmed, as I only can sleep for about 3-4 hours before waking up. It's been like this for 12 days.
I've read enough accounts of other people who went through Zyprexa withdrawal that I know it's real.
I also began taking Lamictal around the time I stopped the Zyprexa, but again my pdoc doesn't think it could be causing my illness.
it all started around janurary 22 2008 i was having some bad times me and my boyfriend broke up after 8 years and someone sent a message to my myspace display page saying that i was being tested on the new LSD yeah i know any way before i saw that message i was very depress and sad and was getting sleep but waking up on and off in the middle of the night. before that i was able to sleep 6 hours without waking up.
The doctor just started my Mom on Zyprexa 5 MG today, she has Alzheimers and is taking Tradazone and Buspirone . An hour after taking the Zyprexa she was confused and thought my nephew was her child.She is 80 and lives alone,My sister her main caregiver lives next door and takes care of her meds and food, We are afraid she will not sleep with this new med.and wander outside.any thoughts from anyone..
I have been reading alot of the posts on here about zyprexa withdraws and have yet to come accrossed anything like mine. of course after the vivid dreams i wake up and don't sleep much but that seems to be common in alot of people. but it is when i do sleep i have the most frightening weird and realistic dreams. been over an hour and still no reply..... someone? anyone?
I’m prescribed Effexor 225 er. Zyprexa (15) makes me too tired though, amitryptiline 150 for sleep mirtazipine 15for sleep. Gabapentin400 mg 4 times a day for anxiety. I have trouble getting out of bed when my daughter isn’t here with me. That’s the only good thing about me is I’m a great father with 50/50 custody. I also am a former addict . For some reason when my doctor asks me if I’m depressed and I tell her no, I’m just now realizing that this whole time I have been depressed.
I was prescribed 5 mg. Zyprexa for sleep for about a little over a month. My psychiatrist then told me I should get off it so I started tapering off to 2.5 mg for ten days then stop. The first two days after I stopped taking the med. I was o.k. the next few days, I have very bad insomnia and could not fall asleep at all, so I called my psy. . He said cutting it down to half a pill at 1.2 mg. should be sufficient and that I should not have any problem.
The doctor helping with her treatment says it is normal for her sleep pattern to be off. She is actually a little nervous about giving her anything extra to sleep because it takes so much to put her to sleep.
She is on 600mg Lithium AM and 900mg Lithium PM, 150mg Lamictal, 80mg Geodon.
When she takes the Ambien it take 20mg to get her to sleep or like 75 mg of Benadryl. Then she is drugged all day the next day.
It feels like Im some kinda zombie without emotions. I can´t even sleep well at night, Im a sleep but awake at the same time. I get panic attacks because Im scared I will be like this forever. I can´t enjoy anything the only thing I want is to get cured, but my psychiatrist doesn´t believe me she says it has nothing to do with zyprexa. I feel like my brain has been damaged since Im oblivious. And I suffer from a dry mouth all the time no matter how much I drink.
I appreciate the input. I see my doctor today, and it helps to have some ideas to mention. Of course the decision on what might work best is in her corner. (I once had a doctor that basically prescribed whatever I asked for -- seemed kind of neat at first but didn't work out so well...)
I'd taken Seroquel a long time ago, and as Freddie mentioned it worked well for just shutting things down and getting some sleep.
i was diagnosed with bipolar 6 years ago after a head injury and was taking zyprexa. Soon after, I was hospitalized with pancreatitis. The doctors immediatly took me off the zyprexa. Since then I have quit all alcohol and never did take drugs. I am currently taking Lexapro, but i don't feel it is what i need. I am constantly tierd, gaining weight, have constant muscle pain, especially in my feet and legs. I still suffer from mood swings, the ups and downs.
