Zyprexa for sleep

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa for sleep

zyprexa

Avatar m tn I also was on zyprexa from about June to November 2011. During this period I gained 10kg and no matter how healthy or how much exercise I do my weight does not shift. Also as other people before me have said, My body and eyes are tired but I do not fall asleep, I seem to get to sleep ok and sleep for about 4 hrs but I cant remember the last time I've slept a full 8hrs, I 'm rarely asleep in early hours of the morning so I just lie there and rest.
Avatar m tn agitated than it is manic, per se, The Zyprexa works well for this, except for its notorious weight-gain side effects. I just can't handle the weight issues. Does anyone know of a another drug, that perhaps comes in a rapid-release form, that would make sense as a replacement for the Zyprexa? I'd prefer to take something that can be used on the as needed basis. I will ask my doctor, of course, but wanted to see about other people's experiences. Thanks!
Avatar m tn I took Zyprexa 5mg for 3 nights only to help with sleep, but have not taken it for 2 nights. Had really difficulty getting to sleep and my sleep was really broken up. Is this normal for this med.
Avatar f tn A few years back when I had chronic insomnia and got very anxious and depressed due to the sleep loss, a psychiatrist prescribed me Remeron and Zyprexa. Zyprexa to get the sleep going until Remeron kicks in. I fortunately saw my doctor who got very angry with the psychiatrist for giving me Zyprexa as I was not psychotic and secondly there are very bad side effects from it.
Avatar f tn Having real trouble sleeping - well ok, more trouble than normal! I take 3.75 to 7.5mg zopiclone anyway at night but even that isn't working. I just don't feel tired. The trouble is I know it will hit me and I will crash, I just don't know when and I really hate that. I dare not make any plans for the next few days because I don't want to have to cancel them when I finally crash into sleep land.
8798274 tn?1399988458 I would advise you to consult a sleep specialist who would assess with first a sleep questionnaire, and then he may ask for a polysomnogram, which is an overnight sleep study as this helps to detect sleep disorders. Regards.
1589929 tn?1310066922 m pregnant so I stopped taking it but I was on Zyprexa before I got pregnant and it helped me sleep and I really need something. If anyone has anything to say about Zyprexa and pregnancy I would love to hear it (I'm not taking Zyprexa at the moment.) Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed 5 mg. Zyprexa for sleep for about a little over a month. My psychiatrist then told me I should get off it so I started tapering off to 2.5 mg for ten days then stop. The first two days after I stopped taking the med. I was o.k. the next few days, I have very bad insomnia and could not fall asleep at all, so I called my psy. . He said cutting it down to half a pill at 1.2 mg. should be sufficient and that I should not have any problem.
Avatar n tn I got diagnosed Bipolar 1 four years ago, I'm currently twenty two. I currently take 30 mg. of zyprexa,. 1500 mg. depakote, 2 mg. benztropine, 50 mg. of risperdone, and 50 mg. testim . I have gained 70 pounds of fat. When I'm not in a mania I sleep from the zyprexa for 12 hours a night. My anxiety is so high and from all of the side affects, just to name a few I have had diarrhea for the last three years, retrograde ejaculation, weight gain, restless legs syndrome.
8798274 tn?1399988458 When I stopped the medication, I started with serious problems (a lot of crying, anxiety, panic attack and sleep problems). I did not sleep for 3 days, then I slept like for three days. I do not feel tired anymore, I do not get that sleepy tired feeling. I have tried many meds to help me to sleep (trazodone, klonopin, Geodon..) nothing help. Now I am sleeping 2-3 hours a night with the help of gabapentin, but I do not feel tired, I DO NOT GET SLEEPY.
1257808 tn?1322762215 Since I increased Zyprexa to 20mg, I became sleep for very long time. Most of the day sleep or sleepy. I'm not sure what to do. Continue on this dose (20mg) until my body deal with it or decrease the dose to 15mg.
1082697 tn?1260064616 i take so many pills to get to sleep at night and i might sleep for 4 good hours. i am never tired, just wired! i do not want to become a zombie taking another pill. i can cut the xanax out , it does nothing for me. and the vicodin makes me crazy. the clelexa does not work anymore . i have NO insurance so i cannot go on the more expensive pills. i am going to try to take the zyprexa tomorrow night since i do not have to work the next day.
Avatar m tn OK, I will try to consult with my doctor for Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Wikipedia said FDA approved it for only Mania in bipolar patients not for depression. But I think antipsychotics also reduce depression by looking at the experiences of different people. Can Risperidone also work like Zyprexa? I am currently on it with an anti depressant.
Avatar n tn have been on 5mg of zyprexa for 21/2 months and i feel groggy in the morning, slightly depressed until i have some coffee. i missed a dose on purpose to see how i would feel in the morning and i had a great sleep, felt less anxious because i wasn't fatigued from too much sleep. but didn't want to miss more than 1 dose but am concerned that maybe 5mg. is too much to take or that it might not be the drug i should be taking.
Avatar m tn My doctor has put me on Lamictal 25mg in the morning with my usual morning dose of Efexor 150mg. He has also put me on Zyprexa 5mg to help me sleep, as my sleep has been very broken, and I became very anxious. Will it be difficult to come off Zyprexa as I don't want to be permanently on this ? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn I hated zyprexa, it made me sleep constantly and I put on 30 pounds immediately.
5790942 tn?1374334321 There is no magic pill or cure for w/ds unfortunately and sometimes, people make choices to take medications that can cause other problems (like Oxy mentioned) or they take high doses of a medication to stave off w.ds that also cause risks. There are some meds that can help symptomatically treat w/ds that are pretty low risk and non addictive. To look for something to take it away completely though just isn't realistic.
Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
Avatar f tn This thread to harm zyprexa users. This discussion is not useful.
Avatar f tn See my post entitled "zyprexa withdrawal or sleep disorder" (still dealing with it, right now i am suffering from severe sleep deprivation and some really wierd symptoms like confusion, memory loss, severe inattention, etc.....look up zyprexa side effects and withdrawal, it can do some really messed up stuff to you. But on the other hand, not everyone reacts that way.
Avatar m tn Things have improved a little, but the diarrhea and nausea seem to be worsening. The anxiety is slowly getting better. The lack of sleep has me alarmed, as I only can sleep for about 3-4 hours before waking up. It's been like this for 12 days. I've read enough accounts of other people who went through Zyprexa withdrawal that I know it's real. I also began taking Lamictal around the time I stopped the Zyprexa, but again my pdoc doesn't think it could be causing my illness.
Avatar f tn Zyprexa (olanzapine) is an antipsychotic drug. That group of drug if taken for a long time can cause sleep disturbances when You stop it suddenly. I have known people on this drug and similar medications in the same group that could not sleep after stopping this medication for a long time. As Your body is use to this medication and the Zyprexa has the effect of making You feel drowsy and in a daze Your body can become dependant on it given over a certain amount of time.
Avatar f tn Yes Avanza should help more than the previous medication for depression and yes you sleep great on it due to its strong H1 receptors antagonist which will cause sedation. You need to give it time to work and most importantly if it's a recent chance you might be experiencing some withdrawal from the previous med while experience side effects of the newer med (they usually go away after your body/brain is adjusted to the changes).
497950 tn?1255863927 I am on zyprexa and celexa for my bi polar and they work great. I did gain in the beginning but I have lost it through exercise and 6 healthy meals a day. you can keep from gaining on the zyprexa. Plus I decided that I would rather be stable with the weight than skinny and in jail.
Avatar n tn I have been taking zyprexa 10mg for over a year now. it seems that when i miss a dose or a couple i have very very vivid dreams. they are so realistic and i find myself having trouble waking up from them. is this normal?
Avatar m tn I’m prescribed Effexor 225 er. Zyprexa (15) makes me too tired though, amitryptiline 150 for sleep mirtazipine 15for sleep. Gabapentin400 mg 4 times a day for anxiety. I have trouble getting out of bed when my daughter isn’t here with me. That’s the only good thing about me is I’m a great father with 50/50 custody. I also am a former addict . For some reason when my doctor asks me if I’m depressed and I tell her no, I’m just now realizing that this whole time I have been depressed.
Avatar f tn These are serious medications that mess with your brain chemistry and it will take major time for them to recover. This is a high dose you are on for sleep also. Well back to your question I went off cold turkey since I was done with the horrible side effects and just figured out this was way to heavy of a drug and not necessary since I was never bi polar or schizophrenic. I was on it for about 2 years and I am sorry to tell you this but coming off it was the worst experience of my life.
