Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft withdrawal experiences medical questions

zoloft

Avatar f tn This is my first time posting on any of these forums. I have read others' experiences of coming off SSRIs and wanted to get opinions on my situation. I'm 19 and started taking Zoloft (Sertraline 50mg) in June last year after a very difficult year of anxiety. I didn't want medication to be a long-term thing for me, so I focused a lot on CBT and only took meds for six months or so. I am now completely off the Zoloft and haven't taken any for almost two weeks.
2049945 tn?1333871610 Can anyone share their experiences whilst coming off of Zoloft? I am having the brain zaps--they are subsiding but they come on strong around evening time. I am also getting this very heavy feeling on my chest. I am hoping that it goes. All the other soreness etc has gone but this heavy chest feeling has subsided somewhat.
Avatar n tn t want to do that after only 5 days of Zoloft. My medical doctor wants me to up my Zoloft dose to 100mg/day but that seems extreme too after only a few days. Any recs? PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Avatar f tn The best thing the dr can do is keep you on the paxil, add zoloft, wait 2 weeks then slowly decrease the paxil while increasing the zoloft. This should take approx 1 month or longer to do so that you do not experience any withdrawal symptoms. I suggest calling your OB office in the morning and let them know you are taking a medication not safe in pregnancy and you need to speak to or see the dr to remedy the situation.
Avatar f tn What you're now on is Prozac. Two problems potentially here. First, you can't just quit Zoloft -- you need to taper off it as most people get some withdrawal from quitting these meds. That most likely explains your symptoms more so than the Prozac. Often, at the tail end of a taper down, Prozac will be used to help when withdrawal is bad because it's considered easier to stop taking, but that's only at the very end of the taper.
Avatar f tn I actually prefer Zoloft. I have had really good experiences with it, however, people react differently to medications. SSRIs like Zoloft can be hit or miss, but the most important thing I can suggest is patience and an open mind. I was originally against any forms of medications, but it really helped me while I was going through counseling. Also, it takes a good couple of weeks before you actually feel the benefit of the drug.
Avatar n tn All these posts are so discouraging. does anyone get off zoloft successfully? Please, someone out there, if you have, tell us. If the doctor has seen cases of people who were on it for three or four years and successfully withdrew, please, let us know!
Avatar m tn //mentalhealthdaily.com/2014/04/15/zoloft-sertraline-withdrawal-symptoms-list-duration/ I was listening to a song I always use to think was very catchy before I took Zoloft, and now I can't figure out what was so appealing about the song. Do you think that's from lack of emotion combined with the other symptoms I've been having?
990051 tn?1249190363 ve been reading and asking and from actual personal experiences, it seems most people have suffered lesser withdrawals from Efexor than from Zoloft...I dunno, we may be clutching at straws...it's just that the extremeness of the withdrawals from Zoloft has made me want that particular drug out of my body FOREVER. I know different people react differently to every drug, I'm just not sure what I should and should TRY.
Avatar n tn I have taken 200 - 300 mg Zoloft/ day for depression and anxiety for about 5 years. Last year, in consultation with both my doctor and my talk therapist, I began to wean myself off because of sexual dysfunction and reduced feelings in general. I went down from 300mg per day to nothing over about 6 months, halving at each step, even slower than advised by my psychiatrist, just to be safe. For the last week I have not been taking any.
Avatar f tn ve recently been diagnosed with mixed anxiety/depression, and the zoloft/klonopin combo works for me. i take 2x50mg Zoloft per day, and 1mg Klonopin. Talk to your doctor, and see what he/she has to say about your case. Generally, SSRIs are tricky. For eg., I tried Mirtazipine, Citalopram, Effexor before I found that Zoloft suits me! Best of luck. Oh, and try some CBT as well, it helps :-) take care, now!
Avatar f tn t do much research, but I had to stop taking zoloft due to my medical insurance being terminated and the withdrawal has been pretty hard. If you do stop taking it I would imagine it would be best for them to seem you off of it.
Avatar n tn I had mild anxiety last july 2008 and my family doctor prescribed me buspar. After two weeks I felt very blue, and was put on 50 mg of zoloft. The zoloft didn't seem to help too much. It somewhat cured the depression but not the anxiety. In september, bumped it up to 75(anxiety with school). After another month of feeling like a zombie, I met with a doctor and made the decision to wean off 25 mg every 3 weeks. Weaning off 75 to 50 was pretty easy, felt a little tired the first few days.
Avatar m tn t ever know if these are side effects of the Zoloft or withdrawal effects from stopping the Lexapro. This should also tell you about stopping the Klonopin abruptly -- it's not about whether you're technically addicted to something or not, it's how easy your brain finds it to adapt back to being without the artificial way medication makes it work. Other medications can't duplicate this because they all work differently and target different receptors.
Avatar f tn Hello, all- I just joined this community today after having read several posts from people who have had negative experiences trying to discontinue using Zoloft. However, besides tapering, I didn't see much advice regarding what to do about extreme withdrawal. I've taken Zoloft for Generalized Anxiety Disorder for almost 3 years. I quit cold-turkey exactly one week ago.
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed 100mg of Zoloft to combat ill effects of xanax. I've d/c'd the xanax under her authorization. Sine this time, I've had increased anxiety and panic attacks. I don't know if it's the zoloft or simply withdrawal but my anxiety has increased. I have had the most panic attacks while driving. Anyone have similar experience with zoloft?
Avatar n tn Hello, I am sorry you are finding withdrawal from Zoloft so hard. I was lucky, and when I stopped it to start another anti-depressant, I had no withdrawal symptoms. Why do you want to stop taking it? Are you having a bad reaction to it? Has it not helped you for the 2 years you have been taking it? Are the symptoms you are experiencing side effects of the drug, or withdrawal? It may be that you cannot do without anti-depressants. Sounds like your body is telling you that.
Avatar f tn No, it's not standard, though it may be common. Protocols call for slowly tapering off the first drug before starting the second for the reasons I mentioned and the withdrawal problem.
Avatar n tn My questions are concerning the zoloft. My primary doc started me off at 25mg daily of zoloft and 25mg of atarax 4 times a day as needed. When I first started taking the zoloft I must admit that I started to feel better, felt more like myself. I had my first meeting with my psychologist and he said that 25mg was good starting point for anxiety. That was fine with me because the meds were working and I was feelig confident and good about things.
Avatar m tn Does Tramadol have as much SSRI in it as Zoloft? Does 100mg of Tramadol have as much SSRI as say 50mg of Zoloft? I was taking Tramadol while I was going through Zoloft withdrawal and I'm just wondering if I stunted the healing process of my Zoloft withdrawal. My body and mind still don't feel 100% since quitting Zoloft, but it's definitely getting better.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking Zoloft (100mg once a day) a few days ago. I had no withdrawal at all. This morning I woke up with the most intense vertigo and nausea I've ever had. I have a fear of throwing up so I'm on the verge of tears because I do not want to throw up. I tried eating and I even took 50mg of Zoloft to see if that was the problem. But it's been 3 hours and I'm sitting here at work wondering if I should go home or if it's even safe for me to drive.
Avatar f tn I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 2 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I'm off work today as I'm so depressed. All I want to do is cry and lay in bed. How long does it take for Zoloft to kick in? I have been on it for 4 weeks now. ..shouldn't I be feeling better by now?
