Zoloft withdrawal electric zaps

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft withdrawal electric zaps

zoloft

Avatar n tn I have been taking zoloft for about 11 years or so and am currently on a dose of 200mg per day. I also take 400mg seroquel at night. I've read about brain shivers upon withdrawal from zoloft but currently experience brain shivers whilst taking zoloft. I take the zoloft in the morning and by about 3pm or 4pm begin getting the electric shocks in my brain. I used to get this only if i missed a dose but they are quite regular now and i am consistent with taking my meds.
937070 tn?1244921939 I know you can get what seems to be known as brain Zaps ,almost like an electric jolt it is usually associated with with- drawing too quickly from the anxiety meds, especially xanax, are you taking anything else any supplements anything differant.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure if this relates to this thread but I don't really have any idea what is going on with me! I've been on zoloft for about 2 months, but recently switched to Lexapro to increase my energy levels. I am on 10 mg/day, but recently went on vacation, and forgot to bring my prescription with me - so I haven't taken it for about a week.
Avatar f tn It sounds like your doctor was tapering you off, as AnxiousNoMore hinted at -- why did you switch to going cold turkey? As for brain zaps, those are like electric shocks that occur as the serotonin receptors that shut down while you were on the drug start to reawaken. The rest is just a collection of withdrawal symptoms, which can go from none for some people to something like the flu for others to creating brand new permanent problems for others.
Avatar n tn I was taking 225mg effexor went down to 150mg for 2 weeks then went off and on to zoloft 50mg for 4 days now. I am having some withdraw symptoms like electric zaps in my face and lips, and it feels like when I move my head it takes a few seconds for my brain to catch up. Also now I am having crazy, weird and sometimes disterbing dreams and when I am not dreaming I am wide awake. I am perimenopausal but now I am having bad night sweats and more hot flashes than ever.
1456780 tn?1310146897 From what I have read the'brain Zaps are caused by withdrawal, are you on anything now ? I may take time to get it out of your system., I am sure it'll be okay give it more time ,dont be scared its a hard thing to do getting of those meds, you are doing okay ..
1423867 tn?1282677738 Brain Zaps, Brain Shivers, Brain Shocks. Head Shocks or Electrical shocks are a common side effect and withdrawal symptom from Antidepressants, but they can also occur with Benzodiazepines and Sleeping Pills. The symptoms are described as brief but repeated electric shock-like sensations in the brain and head, or originating in the brain but extending to other parts of the body. Moving one’s eyes quickly from side to side has also been shown to trigger Brain Zaps in more rapid frequency.
1128565 tn?1316721143 nevermind my last comment about switching med i just red they already did which is a good choice. So yeah you will probably experience brain zaps which is like an electric shock sensation in the head also called brain shivers. I stopped taking Cymbalta (duloxetine 2 weeks ago and im still having them and they appeared 2 days after i stopped taking it) Cymbalta is a SNRI just like Effexor by the way and Effexor and Cymbalta are know to cause the worse brain zaps.
Avatar m tn Hi, Joanne. Not as freaky as you may think. I have severe anxiety, among other mental issues, and before I was properly treated, I had what I called 'head-zaps' all the time. They went all the way from my head to my toes, only lasting about a second or so, but sometimes they happened every few minutes, sometimes hard enough to make my whole body jump. I finally talked my family into getting me a CAT scan to see why this was happening.
Avatar f tn It's really hard to say how long the withdrawal symptoms will last because we're all so different. Try to hang in there because it does get better.
785176 tn?1236416509 ve heard fish oil can help with the brain zaps, and sometimes temporary doses of tranqs for the withdrawal anxiety. Go as slowly as you need to, though being preggers makes that more difficult to do. When I went off Paxil I got severely depressed and angry, and still am, three years later, but I don't think Zoloft is as problematic, and most people do get over it fairly soon. But it is classic withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn I read that seizures are a possiblilty when going through withdrawal of the God Awful medication!! is this something I might have now after almost 12 days of stopping this medication "cold turkey"?
Avatar f tn After seeing a reduction in the effectiveness of Zoloft (100mg daily), my doctor has switched me to Effexor (75 mg daily). I switched 2 weeks ago and am feeling much better, but in the last few days I have been experiencing tremors or 'brain zaps', which thought were a symptom of Zoloft withdrawals. From what I have seen, this should be a fairly smooth transition, but is it possible that that these tremors are side effects from the withdrawal of Zoloft?
Avatar n tn How quickly did you go off the Paxil to the Zoloft? It sounds like you've got some withdrawal mixed in with side effects, especially since the Paxil is making you feel better. It's a very tough drug to quit for many people, and if you move quickly from drug to drug you don't know if it's withdrawal from the old drug or the new drug.
Avatar m tn Hi all just wished to find out from others past experience of the drug how long one should expect to experience withdrawal effects from prozac. Been off prozac myself for 2 1/2 weeks after changing to mirtazapine and now have buily up to an 45mg dose after 8 1/2 weeks but i'm experiencing a range of strange sensations over this whole period.
Avatar m tn There was a thead on this elsewhere but it would not allow me to post as it had reached its daily limit. I've seen a lot of posts where people are complaining of brain zaps while going through SSRI withdrawal. I'm actually experiencing them while I'm on one! I've been taking Lexapro 20mg or about a year now and have been experiencing ocassional brain zaps. Anyone having this problem while under current treatment -- not withdrawals?
Avatar f tn Its been 11 days, I cut my dosage to ten for a month and would skip days, my withdrawal is still happening. I feel like im being zapped all day, especially when i walk, I get dizzy and zapping feelings. I didnt want to taper slowly because I just want this out of my system. I'm fine with the withdrawals, because I know thats what it is. However, how long does it take for the zaps to go away? I get extremely tired from it, and feel really dizzy. Anyone have an advice?
Avatar m tn However, after being off of the Paxil CR for a while I started it up again after trying Zoloft (which made my anxiety so unbearable; I thought I was insane) and the results were not great. I gradually worked my dose up to 37.5 mg as per my doctor's instructions and while it did seem to help with the anxiety and depression, I was having the eye zaps and severe depersonalization that I only experienced during withdrawals.
Avatar f tn A lot of people don't get withdrawal. A lot do. Those two drugs aren't the worst for withdrawals. Prozac stays in the body for about a month, whereas the other ssris such as Zoloft leave in a matter of a day or less. So if there is going to be a withdrawal from Prozac, it's usually so long after quitting that shrinks probably don't attribute it to the Prozac.
