Zoloft with paxil

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft with paxil

zoloft

Avatar n tn 12 years ago there was a class action lawsuit do to the impossibility of getting off it without withdrawals that actually killed a few people. Please see a good psychiatrist to help you with this. There is a website on Paxil tapering... It may take a year but you have to see a doctor who knows about Paxil and ssri wd, not all drs are knowledgable in this.
Avatar n tn I started my switch from Paxil (30mg) to Zoloft a week ago. I've been on Paxil for 6-7 years. I have always struggled with Paxil withdrawals after just one dose ('wooshing' 'zapping' etc etc). Since I HATE the withdrawals, and the Paxil just wasn't 'working' anymore and since my husband and I are trying to get pregnant, I decided to switch to a different medication.
Avatar n tn Weaning was NOT working with Paxil but it is with the Zoloft. I am able to eventually and hopefully be drug free in a few months. This was my last and ONLY solution because nothing worked and these are non addictive but recommended to come off Zoloft slowly and it is much easier then Paxil but it also works great for panic attacks and anxiety...
Avatar n tn He told me to stop taking the paxil and take the zoloft the very next day, and from then on. I have been on zoloft 25mg for the past 3 weeks, and now the horrible withdrawal symptoms have seemed to die down. I wasn't feeling quite up to par last week so i went back to the doctor and he switched me to 50mg of zoloft. I took it for one day and have had horrible akathisia ever since. I switched back to the 25mg of zoloft about 4 days ago, but am still feeling the akathisia.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have been taking Paxil for 10 years. At first I started taking it because I had anxiety problems while eating. As soon as I started paxil these problems went away for the most part in a few weeks. A couple years later I started having panic attacks. I recently began seeing a psychiatrist who increased my dosage gradually from 20mg to 60mg. I really haven't noticed any difference though at all when going from 20mg to 60mg of paxil.
Avatar f tn Many antidepressants may peter out with time as it sounds like that is what happened with your paxil and may eventually happen with zoloft. Luckily there are a number of good medications out there to switch to if that happens. I would look for a pattern to the periods of increased anxiety and see if there are any situations causing it or triggers you can identify.
Avatar f tn re probably suffering start-up side effects from the Zoloft in combination with the withdrawal from Paxil. I hope it all goes away soon.
Avatar n tn You need a psychiatrist who understands these meds, not a psychologist or a regular doc. You're suffering Paxil withdrawal. Zoloft will not necessarily do anything about this, since all meds act differently in the body. Paxil is a particularly difficult med to quit; it needs to be done slowly and carefully, and switching ot another med won't necessarily help with this.
Avatar f tn I am on 40mg paxil and 20 mg (break tablet) of zoloft. The zoloft makes me feel really anxious and almost like i am going to have a panic attack but the paxil is still working well enough to stop it. I am worried about when I actually wean off of paxil....if i am going to be a panic attacking freak again. argh. I am so scared to wean off. When I have lowered my dose in the past, I started FREAKING OUT and my face went numb, and I cried and screamed and it was ugggly.
Avatar f tn So my doctor started weaning me off paxil 50mg to 40mg for a week then 30mg for three days then 20mg of paxil at night with 25mg of zoloft also at night.I seen the doctor again today and now Im taking 50 mg of zoloft in the morning and 20mg of paxil at night. The reson that I have been on ssri"s is for terrible panic attacks with agoraphobia. I dont know what to do I just cant live like a prisoner in my home any more and thats what the panic attacks do.
Avatar n tn How quickly did you go off the Paxil to the Zoloft? It sounds like you've got some withdrawal mixed in with side effects, especially since the Paxil is making you feel better. It's a very tough drug to quit for many people, and if you move quickly from drug to drug you don't know if it's withdrawal from the old drug or the new drug.
Avatar f tn I've had friends switch to Zoloft from Paxil, but not vice versa. I believe Paxil is a milder AD with fewer side effects. I was on Paxil a while ago. It took about a month for it to set in, but it worked really well for me. And my friend who is on AD currently. I wouldn't imagine it should be too difficult, because they're working on the same issue, but you may experience some hiccups as the transition takes place.
Avatar f tn It's hard to say WHY you had panic attacks. It could have been part of a discontinuation symptom from d/c'ing the Paxil (like a w/d), because while you were started on a new med (Zoloft) while coming off the Paxil, they aren't identical in their mechanism of action, and you could still experience some w/d. Paxil is notoriously hard to come off of. What was the dose you were at when you stopped taking it and what was the dose of Zoloft?
10361664 tn?1409609407 my dr has me tapering off Paxil im now on 20mg at night and im taking 25mg of zoloft in the morning....im having more anxiety and my ativan isnt working as well as I thought it would to help....the nausea is whats setting it all off...I dont do well when my stomach is upset is causes me to tense up and stress out which leads to panic attacks...I have been doing this for 6 days now with no relief all day...I havent been able to work like this...and im so tired til about noon...
Avatar f tn My dr. After 10 years changes me from Paxil to Zoloft. I immediately was having withdrawal. Called him and he said to take a Paxil, I did he called me in a new script. But now I'm taking 40 mg Paxil and 100 mg Zoloft. Did he mean to just take one pill or or keep taking my Paxil. I'm not so sure. I felt horrible today threw up after waking up way to late. Very dizzy lightheaded. Balance issues. Bad headache.....this is day 4 I've been on both meds. Anyone have any advice?
324184 tn?1308076203 t necessarily agree that any medication will cure you of this in the long term without confronting your anxiety through counseling. I have had positive experiences with SSRIs like Zoloft and Paxil and they have been very useful while I went through counseling...keep us posted!
527657 tn?1214051850 I was told by my doctor that the Zoloft should not make you gain weight, I had a similar situation with the Paxil. I told my doctor that I was unhappy with the weight gain that I had with Paxil. And she told to try the Zoloft instead. However that was almost four years ago, and I was not on the Zoloft nearly as long as I was with the Paxil. But it did help me to get most of the weight I gained off!! Good luck!
Avatar n tn My niece is wanting to get pregnant again, so her doctor wants her to switch from paxil to zoloft - gave her a new script without any insstructions. Is it safe to just stop the Paxil 20mg and start Zoloft 50? Or, is tehre some sort of transition that should take place? 2. I briefly looked at Paxil and Zoloft - both seem to have the same possible danger in pregnanacy - newboen pulmonary hypertension? Any comments about this - is there a "safe" anti-depressant for pregnancy?
Avatar f tn s not that simple. Paxil is known to be stronger in its affinity for serotonin receptors than Zoloft, and is very hard to stop taking if you've been on it for awhile. There's absolutely no evidence that starting a new drug before you've withdrawn successfully from the old one works, though I'm sure some people do it well. Your taper off Paxil has been very fast.
177505 tn?1220442258 she is going to get me off of the paxil and back onto the zoloft, but this time, i found out that my insurance covers the name brand. she said i will, for a little bit be on paxil and zoloft to wean down off of the paxil. this makes me nervous because of taking 2 meds at the same time plus taking ativan as needed. will this be safe or can i just go from paxil to zoloft since i haven't really be on a high dose of paxil for a long period of time? i am just wanting to feel better.
Avatar n tn 2 frame (124 lbs) but it ***** being hungry all the time and having extra weight! My doctor told me that weight gain is a side effect of Paxil so I am going to try Zoloft. I have an anxeity disorder that triggers OCD and Paxil has worked very very well and given me a great life since being on it. I figure I should try something different to see if it helps the weight gain and if Zoloft doesn't work, or help me to lose the weight then I will have to cut off the wine and go back on Paxil.
1722607 tn?1335747858 I coundn't find any interactions for paxil with either PI or PEG/RIBA http://www.drugs.com/condition/chronic-hepatitis-c.
Avatar f tn what is the proper way to taper back to paxil? 3. How unsafe is paxil with pregnancy and what other options do I have? HELP! I feel like I am losing my mind!!!!
Avatar f tn My friend went from years on Paxil to Zoloft with no problems. Depression & anxiety often re occur in our life. Some of us are just prone to it. You did nothing wrong switching meds/trying others. I took prozac in college and it worked like a charm. 15 yrs later I had another bout of anxiety and depression and tried it again and it did nothing sadly.
Avatar n tn Well, finding the right antidepressant is sometimes trial and error. If paxil wasn't the right one, there are others. Zoloft is pretty well tolerated. But you have to remember that all of those types of medications take a couple of weeks to get used to! Give them 6 weeks fair trial or else you don't know what it is like to be on them.
Avatar n tn You're not clear on the timetable here, at least to my humble brain. Some of your symptoms are a bit odd -- did you say you went completely off klonopin and didn't suffer any withdrawal after taking a high dose for so long (3mg)? Here's my confusion: Paxil is known to pack a wallop of a withdrawal, and many of your reported symptoms sound more like Paxil withdrawal than klonopin withdrawal.
Avatar f tn My doctor is daying to keep taking as advised. With 2tabs zoloft in the motning with 2tsbs in the evening I was feeling normal. Can any one explain is the anxiety due to tappering off zoloft? Is seroxat cr working? Is seroxat CR better? Will I get normal again on taking only seroxat 25mg two tabs at night and stopping zoloft by tappering.
Avatar f tn I trusted my doctor and have been talking with him since this happened over a month ago. I was on paxil 12.5 mg and had stressful events occur and had break through non stop severe anxiety/panick disorder. He then tried to switch me over to lexapro which I was on paxil for 17 yrs and started having withdrawls I though and asked him to put me back on paxil. So he was not happy about it but he did. I seem to get a liottle better the first day I took 12.5mg of paxil and no lexapro.
